xfs is for when data checksums are too much overhead or you have integrity provided by a storage controller. zfs is for parity raid and ssd / hdd hybrid configs

Dumb people are going to be dumb.

I have an acquaintance who I've gotten into two AI arguments with. She's a firm anti AI person, despite never having used it. She tried to tell me how AI works, even though I've literally made machine learning programs before, and also tried to tell me that it's "SLAVE LABOR!" But in the same breath she also says "AI is just a word guesser."

I kept trying to calmly explain to her how AI actually works, but she called me a "techno machine God worshipper". I left after that.

Dumb people are going to be dumb.

It's really too bad everyone has an equal voice on the internet. It gives these dumbasses way too much weight.

I like Ai genuinely. I play around with local models. Merge, quantize, and hopefully soon try and train. I like seeing how different ones respond, how dumb stupid small models know very little on niche topics and how even big corporate ones suck at answering the same questions.
But I 100% why people hate AI. It's a tool and tools are as good as the person using them. And the people using AI right now are fucking lazy, retarded, and evil.

What web browser do you use and why?
I use Floorp because I've always had a fuckton of tabs (my record is more than 1157 consecutive tabs) and the browser lets me organize tabs in ways that are useful for me, and I haven't found another browser with better tab organization.
It also lets you use firefox extensions and recently added support for chrome extensions, I don't know how that's possible, but I have no use for chrome extensions so it seems superfluous

Yes, they're still the best everyday material. Wool needs to be brushed before use, but after that it's the most comfortable, thinnest, most heat-conserving fabric readily available for clothes. Linen is the opposite: it is the most breathable clothe material available and it's comfortable without preparation.
Cotton is mediocre at both. Artificial fabrics are garbage at both (what's more, they retain sweat extensively, which is unhealthy in general).

>I suggest you think *before* you start typing

You should follow your own advice. You haven't provided any counterarguments to my statements. The crux of your argument is all based on the assumption that there will be endless innovations to solve all of the problems that humanity themselves created and continue to create. You're essentially making an emotional appeal.

We already see examples now of problems (e.g., wealth disparity, crime, drug abuse, violence, declining life expectancy) outpacing humanity's ability to solve them, less so because they can't be solved, but more because humanity is unwilling to solve them.

What happened after technological innovations is entirely relevant. Technological innovations are supposed to improve people's quality of life, not diminish it. Can you really argue that the average person's life now is better than the average person's life a few generations ago?
>>
>>107620141
This.
The only time in history where people's quality of life has notably increased (as opposed to decreasing over time) was when worker protection laws were passed following the abject abuse during the beginning of industrialization.

There's a reason why there are endless amounts of customer protection laws, but no protection laws against customers.

Steve is basically the HALOKid that made it, but he is too far up the commercialization hole you should not be listening to this guy. His heart is in the right place, but he doesn't do enough research.

The AMD driver debacle is rooted in a strategy Nvidia started 20 years ago. Bashing on AMD instead of educating hurts the DYI space more then anything.

His default to cynicism and "whatever bro" really becomes painfully apparent he talks about stuff like lossless scaling. Like we all know how cucked we are in terms of a locked ecosystem, but when someone breaks the mold it's " cool I guess". Like Fuck off.

The actual DYI PC sphere is like 1 % of brainwashed masses and Steve is not helping. LTT is a bit more blackpilled and knowledgeable, but they simply embrace and actively avoid the activism.
>>
I get why he's doing it and it's a somewhat popular position to be anti-AI at all costs but it comes off as weird and obsessive desu.
Maybe because he's built his team and his employees work as a circle jerk.

Either he really hates AI or he's pushing toward the grift.
What he could have been doing was slamming Nvidia, ATi & Intel for not pumping out cards with hueg, amounts of VRAM and low TDPs for inference. If you want to go down the consumerism and environmentalism route, you advocate for cards and affordable setups for inference, local that are detached from the bubble, on open hardware and away from the tech oligarchs. However he never really comes across as open to any of the technology or advancements or improvements at all.
I think that's why it comes across so weird, because for years their angle was that of a neutral party, then they wanted to try to ramp up to journalistic integrity and now it comes off as anti-AI all the time.

It's the same with hardware unboxed, they get caught in a kind of benchmark bro gamer circle jerk. I know nvidia accused them of this once (and it was a spurious claim at the time, since it wasn't anywhere near this level of being out of touch) but it comes through often enough that it rubs the audience the wrong way.
When you've got Steve bringing up Linux not being for gaming again and I've been getting along perfectly well for years; but he's doing it from the position of a dad gamer pushing 50. It comes off as tone deaf because they benchmark, they report on news and make videos. He's out of the loop, caught in the dad grind.
When it happens over at GN, but it's about how AI is bad, it comes off the same way.
It's like a special lane of cognitive dissonance, you know the one, buy this because it's cheaper & better performance but ignore the TDP or that you may play something that isn't our AAA slop benchmark.

Br should be 10-20 years if not more, but that doesn't really matter. Tape backups need to be verified and rewritten periodically too, which is why I was looking for a tool to do it.
