So my year in review omits nearly everything I asked about because they were related to weight loss and hair loss meds, for fun I also asked it a lot of the same questions I did earlier this year and now it clams up and refuses to continue at random because it thinks I'm asking for advice on HRT when I want to talk about long term 5AR inhibitor use, keep in mind this is after it tried to upsell me on another question, it would outright refuse to answer the question it posed.

true. tech companies are just selling their product to the highest bidder as was done for thousands of years and no ideological whining will change that. You want to target gaymers with cheap cards to play their glorified bilboquet? Just do it, make a company and do it nigga, nobody is stopping you... However you might realise that you could make much more by scamming people with AI datacenters

How's the weather in tel Aviv, faggot?

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

In the end, the point of the OS is to launch applications and handle storage. If you can get the same functionality out of the whole thing, then the OSes are comparable.
You don't install Windows or MacOS to fuck around with the settings and menus all day.

Wait seriously? What were you using, Slackware or Yggdrasil Linux or something? I was running Linux in 1999 and there were tons of gaps in the available software, how did you make do back then?

Linux users will really make shit up and larp about having a more useful os instead of being honest and admitting their hobby is tinkering. Gentoo gets fucking mogged in usefulness and usability by whatever the fuck gnome is pushing as a flagship distro (I genuinely cannot be assed to look it up, gnome is that ass), literally any other distro would be a better choice. Gentoo’s whole gimmick of “le everything is compiled from source” is a fun tech demo, but has no real advantage aside from better support on hyper niche or machines from over 20 years ago. Why lie? Why pretend like gentoo is useful? Just because you want to kick yourself in the nuts every time you install a package doesn’t mean this is useful to others.

Nigger if two people tried to replicate it and failed that goes to show it’s hard to parse. I would model it with a state machine with clear transition logic in a declarative way with a fluent builder. It’s more verbose but everyone understands what’s going on and is easier to extend. If you’ve got your clever gotos scattered across 10 files good luck adding a new phase or removing a phase without breaking something
>>
>>107667900
This is actually pretty close to a state machine diagram.

In the fall-out after “‘goto considered harmful’ considered harmful” was published it was generally accepted that an attitude of banning gotos altogether is a mental illness.

I use them all the time, now, and more frequently.
It’s true that some BASIC programs were a little hairy looking with too many gotos (if you didn’t know about shit like TRON)

Compare this “evil” of one or two gotos with the entire javascript code residing in a single web page from something like youtube.
>>
>>107669240
>I would model it with a """Clean Code""" style SOLID weapon of Java multiton strategy just like my OOP professor would expect me to.
Gooooooooood morning saar!!!

>>107669354
Goto is literally a device to make Mealy machines using the program counter as the state variable. The comical thing about Dijkstra's letter is that his arguments apply as is to recursive functions, but everyone has been pretending otherwise for whatever reason. Like we're supposed to not nootice the context of the letter was that everyone was programming in Fartran because C's scope-restricted gotos weren't even a thing yet.

Avoiding gotos made sense back when IDEs were very barebones but at this point with modern debugging tools and search tools and UIs I don't see any reason not to use gotos other than code readability. I first learned to "code" writing shitty command line programs in batch and that only had gotos, no functions or anything like that. As long as you named the gotos and variables reasonably, you could just use CTRL+F to find what you need. And it's impossible to not use "gotos" in lower level languages since everything relating to loops, conditionals, or functions depends on jumps.

Which should scare people planetwide. It's not as if actual disasters don't happen sometimes. Even without any foul play, if their facilities somehow got wiped out, there would be a step back until it could be recreated. Simply having design and production documents backed up somewhere else isn't anywhere near enough.
