We know more than just a size though. We know where the allocation occurred in the callstack and current block, and where it was used and how it left the current scope if at all, and whether it returns from the function. As long as the language is a bit strict about references and explicit about which allocations are allowed to grow, it seems to be feasible. For nearly all allocations that occur in common script, it should be possible to bucket them sanely. If the user is allocating explicit blocks of memory, it's up to them to handle its lifetime, but Odin's model seems pretty reasonable to me for explicit allocation. One low level with manual memory management but still expressive as fuck (metaprogramming, good type system and module system, FP and OOP features for good code reuse and composability, etc..) and the other more high level and with a GC, but still with static typing. The 2 languages combined should be enough to do basically everything.

I don't really have enough experience with scripting languages to really know, but it seems to me that the two kinds of allocation are either throwaway allocations that are used as an intermediate step to produce the real result, like allocating a dynamic array of words for a .split(' ') only to iterate them and throw the array away. The other case being that the allocation is the result that you're going to populate with data for later use. The real breakdown is that people use malloc for the first case instead of an arena, but if we can just use an arena for them and make the lifetime match the callstack, with some smarter behavior to allow allocating a local dynamic array "into" the caller's arena, that would save a copy and cleanly maintain the correct lifetime for that temporary array. For all the persistent allocations, the programmer can use arenas like Odin.

Turns out if you change the strategy sometimes people will fall for your bullshit. The first time they forced everyone to agree to an EULA update or lose their access to games, people begrudgingly accepted and a few months later "oh what is this, steam sales? everything is forgiven!". They were the first to embrace modding, providing certain services for free in exchange of making the store bigger (like cloud saving), embrace indie developers with greenlight and some of the first to engage into the same thing asians were doing, which was to just create a fucking digital market, free money from addicts.
Every now and then they actually know how to play their hand and do something that's somewhat praiseworthy because the bar is stupidly fucking low when it comes to corporations. They experiment a lot too. They have the money to experiment, fail and experiment again until they get something going that will make them stay relevant and not hated to death like, I don't know, Ubisoft or Microsoft.

It works great, the only real bug is that you can't use usb for file transfer on the 10 reliably so android auto is out the question but you could still do voice commands ect. File transfers can be done with tools like KDE connect, chase does work but you will need to install the app store and play services but imo you should try to handle that on desktop. For password management you could still get all the apps without using the play store the apks are often available.
I would highly recommend putting apps that require the play store on a separate profile or a private space so you can turn it off 100% when you're done.
The phone doesn't crash and the usb file transfer issue is the reason why it's not out of experimental. It can be done but it might make the device less secure and reality it's no big deal for me.

I have found the names and addresses of youtubers near me by looking at their videos. One of them pointed their camera out of their garage when the door was open, i got a glimpse of the street, a stop sight, a newly planted tree, and the general curvature of the road. Since i knew he lived near me based on the roads he drove in previous videos, and i knew his house was newer, i was able to track down the newest sub divisions in my local area and look for that pattern of street, stop sign, and newly planted tree in the neighbors yard. After double and triple checking for features common in the 2 different perspectives, garage facing out, and ariel looking down, i had a 100% match. I later confirmed this by driving by and verifying the vehicles parked in his driveway (they were the same as the ones he filmed in his channel).
