Non-ironically, Google has been working on webium. You can test it on Chrome Canary, which essentially is them rewriting the whole interface in web-ui elements.
>>
>>106831837
I'm not familiar with web-ui, is it meant to make it more customizable?
>>
>>106831926
It's essentially them rebuilding the interface FOR Chrome in a similar way to how the Firefox interface works. Now, they might not make it easy for users to customize it on Chrome itself, but if they build it like this, I assume any chromium fork could very easily expose that part of the interface to the user and make super simple to customize.
>>
>>106832104
Interesting. I wonder if Chromium forks will adopt it and make themselves more distinct looking. We'll see, it's Google we're talking about so it's entirely possible that it will be just another dead project.

The difference is that wheat->flour->bread is a not only a transformation but an act of creating value, actual value because bread feeds the farmer, the miller and the baker, and many other people, perpetuating the creation of Value.

The problem is that AI and Data Centers do not create nowhere near the amounts of value that its surge and explosive growth requires, that is, the economy has turned to feeding this bubble in the name of speculation, finance capital and just investments in general. The problem is that the "perceived value" of such an industry comes from people thinking it will be worth more and more, yet, AI has pretty much no actual economic value.
The resulting gap in the market's perception of Data Centers and AI investments, and its actual contributions to the economy grows each day, funneling money into an industry that will feed no one.
>>
>>106829031
It's too much of a national security issue so the government and "market makers" are going to collude to prop it up for as long as possible or at least until they figure out an exit strategy. If the AI bubble bursts it probably means major civil unrest, riots, etc.
>>
>>106829031
hopefully
>>
>>106831617
Except your example is predicated on creating actual, tangible value. Stock market today and its companies' 'evaluation' is basically bullshit generated out of thin air. AI doesn't create any value, they provide a service, service that may or may not work for other businesses or people. In this case it's basically a bubble where AI companies evaluation is pumped because (((the market))) believes they will create some value/be profitable at some point.

Does anyone else feel a sense of melancholy and longing when looking back on Windows 7? I ditched Windows for Linux a decade ago so I shouldn't care, but I miss the times when Windows was something that was pushing Linux to improve the user experience, rather than a social experiment to check how much retarded shit you can force on people and still have them use the product.

Why is WEBP sometimes able to achieve more than 20-30% lower file size compared to JPG in photographic images?

When aiming for an SS2 of 60/medium quality of picrel, WEBP does this at ~80KB but JPG requires ~200KB which means the former is achieving ~60% lower file size. It doesn't make any sense because VP8 is optimized for cartoons with large flat surfaces with few colors, right?

Or I guess another way to put it is: What makes picrel cursed for JPG?

Why hasn't he released a version of SteamOS that runs on generic desktop PCs yet? He has the perfect opportunity right now to kill Windows once and for all, now that Microsoft is forcing people off Windows 10 and everyone is desperately looking for an alternative. SteamOS is the only Linux distro polished enough and easy enough to install that the average normie gamer can do it. He's missing a golden opportunity.

they claim to be "zero trust" / "zero knowledge" yet there is no way to set the master password through the mobile / desktop client, they redirect you to their web app, which you can obviously not trust, at anytime they, or someone that compromised their server could serve you custom js that'd steal your master password.

what a fucking joke, how are people even recommending this shit.

i'll stay on keepass thanks.

Unrelated that's another threat model.

If you enter credentials in the web page and your computer is not compromised but the server is, they can steal your credentials, they couldn't if your could set your master key from the localy installed client.

If your computer is running malicious software, your password manager is the least of your worry.

I trust more my own computer than the server, i know exactly what software I'm running.

Point being, it's needless attack surface, there is no technical reason preventing them from making it trustless, they claim to be zero knowledge but that's false.

Anyway, this glows a thousand miles, the feds could ask them to target specific users and steal their key any time they change it with the status quo.
