Currently I store most my data in memory-mapped files with a bit of locking logic where necessary, but I wonder if it's worth it to just migrate all data into a proper DB and significantly reduce the size of my program.One point that might speak against using SQL is that my data is user-entered and unclean, so when matching different sources (tables), I have to do some string processing and error-tolerance (i.e. trim the strings, lowercase, which I think is hard to do in SQL? Do hybrid queries make sense, where I grab some data from one table, transform it in a general purpose language, and then do the second step of the query? Perhaps via building temporary tables?
