You can give slock a simple test
Usage
Simply run ``slock'' to lock the screen. You can also provide an argument to be run after the screen has been locked:
$ slock cmd [arg ...]
To unlock the screen, just type your password.

or alternatively requiring that package maintainers and software developers adhere to a rough configuration standard.

Get KDE linux up to par. KDE is the best windows 11 desktop competitor since it supports HDR, VRR, Multi monitor support in functionality. Discover is the definitive best all in one software store/updater on linux.

Flatpak/flathub is obviously the best stack for security, stability for 99% of GUI apps for centralizing linux stability, and its open source and reproducible on every machine. That was always the problem with linux for the past 20 years, in summary, making sure everyones machines just werks and stops breaking from dependency hell.

Ubuntu and deb based distros way of doing package management literally destroyed linux innovation and progress for over 15 years, only the kernel was good progress. Flatpak came in to save the day and it did, Now linux is stable.

This is what steamOS is BTW, its just an immutable linux distro with KDE and flatpaks, same as bazzite, and its literally the best.

And after theres a definitive KDE distro based on flatpaks, clean up the aesthetics by removing the cheesy ugly pastel recording dot that is in the task bar when you screen share, and just generally fix some aesthetic issues. Its not needed OBS already has a recording indicator or find something else for it.

Then the rest is just developing VRR, HDR and Driver support for Nvidia/AMD
>>
>>108519295
Also to add linux has not only been fragmented by bad ways of doing package/software management for over 20 years, but it has also been plagued with having no good desktop that is actually modern or functional for the bast 20 years.

KDE is the closest, and with some polish and getting it preinstalled on laptops, KDE linux as the definitive linux distro.

Laptops and PC's need to have a centralized option for choosing KDE linux as the default instead of windows 11.

No retarded mint forks, no retarded gaming fork like cachyOS, One centralized open source distro will make linux popular. That was always linux's problem, no centralization of ideas.

I don't reference images, I almost always go with txt2img. The age gap is... relevant to the whole concept/subversion of a less "experienced", naive, wolf and a more "mature" Red Riding Hood, but again and again AI models hate 18 years because it's "ambiguous"...

On another note, it looks like OpenAI is testing new models on Arena, so far I've noticed:
maskingtape-alpha
gaffertape-alpha
packingtape-alpha
Visually at least maskingtape-alpha (picrelated) is reminiscent of Image 1.5, but they're higher resolution.
>>
Packingtape-alpha, same prompt as above. I guess image generation won't get forsaken by OpenAI, despite what happened to Sora, probably it's relatively cheap. These models seem to have the same limitations of Image 1/1.5 on aspect ratios, the prompt actually asks for 4:3, but before it gave me 3:2, now it's 2:3... Faces remind me of 1.5.
>>
And I can't seem to get gaffertape-alpha again atm, I only saw it once while trying to ask to the model its maker for confirmation (those models looked a lot like 1.5 to begin with, but just in case). Anyway this is NBP with the same prompt.
>>
>>108519103
>>108519269
god OAI is still doing the spackled grainy thing it likes to do
>>
>>108519278
Medium in those doesn't help, it's pastels. But it does look very grainy. Model might be smarter than 1.5 anyway, I tried to run the same prompt in 1.5-high-fidelity on Arena, just to see how grainy it was, and it gave me an unprompted shotgun because of the hunting setting, kek.

It seems annoying when it asks for confirmations like that.
But there was a bug in windows 10 and windows 11 since 2018 that would NOT run the update and then restart the PC, when you chose the option of "Update and shut down". It was fixed this year I think. It took them ~8 years.

As of 2026, Debian GNU/Linux:
>distributes and recommends non-free software
>has elections as free as russia's
>publicly subscribes to subversive and impractical radical ideology
And, as ever,
>distributes outdated, buggy software
>is full of small irregularities which are holdovers from earlier times
>breaks on version upgrade
Why would anyone use this? Why would anyone build on this? A foundation of sand.

Besides the non-free-firmware bundled in for hardware support Debian still explicitly separates non-free software and requires the user to manually opt in by adding the repos.
>but they shouldn't include hardware support or non-free repos at all
Yes I love converting people to my tech religion by telling them the first step is to replace their entire hardware stack and change their jobs to something that doesn't require specific software. I also love telling teenagers to ask their friends to record streamed zoom lessons on their phone so that they can listen in and don't have to directly interact with non-free software like a Hasidic Jew asking their neighbor to turn on the stove.

The future worth building is a peer-to-peer mesh. A global interconnected network of peers who share the same space. Your house should be able to speak to the house next door without accessing another man's data center. Renting passage from a landlord who grades every hop for margin. They don't even want us communicating with each other anymore, just their ai agents. Instead, what if nodes were able to broadcast out their own content. You were able to own the hardware in behind walls and control not only what you broadcast out, but what you bring in. To go out and recieve the feeds from other nodes operating in the same. Many small sticks make strong branch.

Don't remember ever using that one, but the emulators I know all had their own gamepad configurations built in. Also never tried console gamepads, I've been happy with Logitech for decades.
>>
>>108518645
wait so logitech pads come with an xinput config by default? where does this get defined in linux? i.e. where do I find out about whether switch pro has a similar xinput definition?
>>
I'm using Debian Xfce, and when I lock my screen, Num Lock led gets disabled (the numbers still are active). How do I fix this?
>>
>>108518671
The one I have can switch between Dinput and Xinput. Had no reason to switch it to Dinput ever though, most games are made for Xinput these days anyway, some support more, but the buttons on the controller match xbox more so it's better to go with that to get xbox button prompts.
One option to check it is via Steam, it keeps telling me that games are compatible with my xbox controller. Steam also had some quite extensive controller settings, but those probably only work for games inside steam. Might be usable for debugging though.
>>
>>108518567
Do you have the steam udev package installed? It should be something like steam-udev-rules. It comes with a bunch of udev rules for gamepads and bascally gamepads wont work properly on linux without t.

It says everything in plain English. dyn Trait has a pointer that points to the data and another that points to the type basically. This is obviously an oversimplification but that’s about it. The same data can provide different types of information with this.

How did you supply enough power to the video card with the stock power supply? I swapped mine out with a 700w one and made a custom adapter because HP just couldn't use the stock pinout.
