Why the fuck did they do this? Just installed nvidia-open and it literally gives me artifacts in almost every game and makes my 3060 spin like crazy. Give me back proprietary nvidia drivers!!!!

Linux is not meant for humans, just install w10. In a few years you wont even have that driver as everything is constantly updated for no reason
>>
>>107662099
If you can get it that cheap, it's a good deal until it blows your PSU.
The prices I'm seeing are $80-$120 shipped, and for a little more, you can get something much newer like an RX 6600.

amd cards were trash for a long time.
their idle power usage is still high? not sure.
then the drivers were trash, while nvidia still has the same setup for over a decade.
and now 3-5 year old amd cards are no longer getting support?

i'm not a fanboy to anything, but amd just seems the wrong choice unless you effortlessly want to play games on linux. though nvidia has been working fine for me on small games.

take the low tech pill

Why only desktop and not laptops?
Also can't you access radios from a desktop PC over the internet?
Dumb phones still have cameras too usually so you could just use that instead of having an extra device.
How can you games and media offline you need an internet connection to torrent them in the first place.

HAM radio is legitimately satisfying. Buying chinese radios and installing CFW so you can monitor everything that isn't encrypted at this point. The most interesting stuff imo is listening to air traffic on the AM bands and tracking flights.

If he's loading up on cpu and ram heavy processes and swapping then maybe not. With CPU he can nice the process if he wants it to get out of the way, it's ancient tech but it works. If he's spilling into swap then idk, that's always going to murder performance, but I'd be surprised if Linux didn't have ways to tune that if he really wants to. I think most people just bought more ram in the past, because "ram is cheap" was the saying until very recently.

/tpg/ is kill. Anyone try Libreboot/Coreboot on desktop? What board did you used? I'm thinking of using a Dell Precision T1650 MT. The motherboards that don't come in prebuilts seem a little too expensive considering they're more than a decade old.

Also, I've occasionally read that I should go with Coreboot instead of Libreboot since the latter is often behind on updates; that I should just compile my own roms instead of using Libreboot's LBMK. Anyone have any links documenting how to compile/configure Coreboot? The old wiki was fine, but it's depreciated and I don't remember the old link for it to look through it via the wayback machine.

So here's my problem. My stepdad won't let me use the wifi at his house because he's paranoid about me torenting or getting a virus. Is it possible for me to get my own Internet router with its own wifi and Ethernet connections? My room has a coaxial wall outlet.
>>
>>107662289
Depends if the house has different wiring for different ISPs.
In my area there are basically only two ISP and they don't share cables. If I'm with ISP1 then they use their cable. If I'm with ISP2 then they use theirs. My house was wired like this.
Call other ISPs and asks them if it's possible to get a 2nd internet connection and tell them what ISP your dad is on.
Also, your dad is a dick.

Epstein did a ton of harm even if the victims were over 18. Epstein's Island would have been empty if it wasn't for him lying that he would make teenage girls and young adults fashion models and massage experts.

https://web.archive.org/web/20251121173004/https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/who-are-the-newly-revealed-jeffrey-epstein-associates.html
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/08/victorias-secret-epstein/595507/

The "Mid-Massage" Shift: The scenario began with a plausible, if awkward, "massage" job. The shift to sexual demands was not presented as a new job description but as a pressure-filled, mid-session escalation. This was intentional. It placed the victim in a state of shock and confusion

Jeffrey Epstein reportedly told women and young girls that he was a modeling scout for Victoria’s Secret. The financier never worked for the lingerie retailer, or even, technically, for its parent company, L Brands. But he had a close relationship with the head of L Brands, Leslie Wexner, assuming an unusual degree of control over Wexner’s assets and personal life

Campbell had no clue Epstein was using her name to attract young girls interested in modeling, and as he did with many others, he overstated their acquaintanceship,” said a spokeswoman for the model. “She deeply regrets having had any contact with Epstein after his conviction

a lawsuit filed by Prince Andrew’s accuser, Virginia Giuffre, Recruiters working for Epstein targeted young women who were open to abuse and manipulation, played on their hopes and fears, dazzled them with “displays of vast weath and power” and then force them to have sex with clients while keeping them in line with threats and blackmail.

Epstein did extreme harm. and in the midst of the chaos dumb normies are painting this as a 17-18 freak out and making up black mailing nonsense not supported by evidence. Please filter out the dumb normies that freak over the number 18 and focus on the facts. Epstein and his high level friends did horrible things.

>MicroLED literally hit a dead end in consumer development
>QDEL will be the next attempt
I really hope we get more news about it at this next year's upcoming CES.
Reports back in March were that Samsung internally put out an all-hands-on-deck call to their research department to accelerate QDEL/QD-EL development because they can see the threat from the cheap Chinese inkjet-printed RGB OLEDs from BOE and CSOT looming on the near horizon and need something to stay ahead (not to mention LG's transition to RGB OLED next year adding extra pressure):
https://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=237792
>According to industry sources on March 18, Samsung Electronics' Visual Display (VD) division, along with SAIT, formerly known as the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, and Samsung Display, is pushing forward with EL-QD development. Samsung has set an internal target to commercialize EL-QD within a few years and is fully committed to its technological development.

Samsung were also demo'ing a unit at Display Week back in May:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcCrpjT3gEM&t=239s
They could target the Gaming/IT market first as enthusiast will spent a premium for the best especially if it eliminates the risk of burn-in for static content viewing.

LG RGB OLED UPDATE:
https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/lg-display-announce-a-new-27-4k-oled-panel-with-rgb-stripe-layout
>We’ve now confirmed with LG Display that this new panel will offer the following luminance specs:
>250 nits brightness for SDR
>1000 nits peak brightness (1.5% APL) for HDR
>500 nits at 10% APL
>250 nits at 100% APL
>VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black capabilities (subject to monitor certification process)

>This is a lower brightness than some of their most recent Tandem WOLED panels we’ve seen with the included white sub-pixel (reaching 1500 nits peak for instance), but this is as a result of the removal of the white sub-pixel and the higher pixel density. With only RGB sub-pixels now available, this will offer an “additive” approach to colour brightness, which should mean we get higher colour volume in HDR – i.e. colours will be maintained even at maximum brightness.
I'll take a slight hit to brightness in exchange for a normal subpixel layout for better clarity with no color volume collapse and better color balance (and hopefully no more luminance overshoot).
