I hate the fact that tiling window managers are nowadays used mostly because of the looks rather than the functionality. Sure, people did have their anime themed i3-gaps build back then, but the entire point of a tiling wm was the tiling itself, not to mention the minimalism behind the setup. You used a twm because you wanted to make the most of your screen, and to avoid the bloat of a full blown desktop environment. Fast forward to 2016+9 and everyone uses the exact same ugly setup because it looks "kewl" online. Rounded corners everywhere, excessive amounts of padding and blur, exaggerated animations, stupid gimmicks, and also the entirety of packages from a desktop environment (with propietary software included obviously, because you NEED your Electron-based "apps"). Reddit was a mistake.

It's been a few years since its birth, and many people in tech have made similar decisions, mostly because they struggle to find other options. Over the years they have seen this combination of two different worlds nurtured, and regret, anger, relief, and many emotions ensuedIs it worth it, /g/?

>>107716340>I assume datacenter builds would slow down to some extent, but they'll still be neededThat's a big assumption. Datacenters already exist and sell AI compute to proompters and business clients, but the revenue is shit. Beyond AI, there's not enough demand for compute as a whole to justify the scale of proposed datacenter projects. All the render farms and digital panopticons of the world put together wouldn't be enough to make it profitable, it just doesn't add up in a reality where AI isn't an infinitely scalable magic box.

What are some memorable experiences you had regarding tech in school? I’ll start >switch n and m keys on a keyboard in keyboarding class >sperg kid sits there, looks down at the keyboard and almost immediately begins flipping out >ancient teacher and tard wrangler lumber over to inspect >they murmur together for a moment >teacher says the keyboard must be defective, unplugs it, and throws it away >waddles off to get a new keyboard from a supply closet >mfw Also, later that year >write Visual Basic scrip that causes the CD tray to continuously open and close >runs as a background process, and task manager was disabled on school PCs, so it’d keep going til you rebooted >I am le 1337 haxx0r >put file on a flash drive, bring it to school >copy file to the desktop >realize that it’d be funnier to make people cause it to happen, rather than automatically running Comment too long. how do i make my breaks sound like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEDTRN_3j9s

>>107715615That's just high BPM + a transient shaper isn't it? And the tonal noise playing ostinato doesn't seem to be part of the break itself but it's rather a separate synth sound>>107715864https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tj219SvImI&list=RD8Tj219SvImI&start_radio=1

If your device could use eye tracking without camera video or identifying you, how would you feel? I'd be fine with it. Seems like a cool new way to interact with users
>>107715607Yeah but you only say that because of how ads are. People used to tolerate commercials on TV and such. So if ads were improved, attitudes toward advertisement would change.
>>107709311You don't need to interact with users. Just run a video saliency prediction model and it'll output accurate heatmaps on any video you want.
>>107709328it could actually be pretty cool I think, imagine. The more you watch the premium part of the ad, the more platform points you earn, with goodies such as avatar, custom themes, emojis, banners and who knows.Maybe you could also do some kinda of games, like spot the sponsored product in the scene, stare only at the sponsored product for the duration of a product placement scene, you could also do a battle where there would be two products on screen for a number of scenes and the winner would be the one you stared and followed the most, the reward could be a coupon for you etc..It would be kinda neat I think, it's basically merging advertisement and entertainment into one single all encompassing product.I say a resounding YES to secure eye tracking.
>>107715919>People used to tolerate commercials on TV and such.I didn't.I always switched channels whenever there were commercials.
>>107709311>I'd be fine with itCuck. I don't want to give big corporations anything that benefits them in any way.
