>>107686123I was thinking about making more status bars for the top that are selectable. I don't like the music player taking up so much space. I'd rather have general system statistics (total packages, time since last update), and have the music player information made available on yet another bar that can be toggled.

>>107686452I'll make the output of the left two mpc blocks based on whether or not mpc is playing. Ez solution.

Is it normal that audio sounds worse (coming from my laptop's built-in speakers) on Linux than on Windows? I could just be imagining it, I guess

It's always just guessing, it gets the "gist" of things, but it's imprecise. A simple old calculator will never miss that 2+2=4, not in a million tries, it simply cannot do anything differenother t than getting it right. An LLM can get 2+2=4 right 99% of the times, which may be close enough for an idiot, but this 1% is absolutely crucial and makes the whole thing useless for calculations, seems like a waste of computational power to even try.
>>107686177furthermore, the LLM will use trillions of floating point operations to generate that answer while the calculator will use just a single integer addition

>>107681687Software companies employing competent developers is an increased expense for the company. If they hire shitty devs whose code ends up needing 10x more hardware, well, that's an expense for the customers to pay, not the software company.
So far 32GB is fine for light AI use (TTS and basic 8B chatting) and that's by far the most memory-intensive thing I do.

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine. Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?
>>107684526> but I also went in knowing full well I'd have a second class experience compared to AMD usersthis is such a meme, you only get a second class experience if you need gpu virtualization on vm (like with virtio). normal usage nvidia is 100% fine, and most ai sloppa is still nvidia only (basically everything except llm inference and some image gen)
