Nobody's going to learn the bash terminal unless they are some basement dweller who lives on their PC. Even people who use their PC for work aren't going to fuck around with stuff like that. The terminal went away in the early 1990s on Windows and Mac because it's trash and linux hasn't evolved with them.

PREDICTION

This year we will see prebuilt manufacturers start selling prebuilt machines with Linux pre installed even to normies.

There is no point to keep shelling out money to Microsoft for licensing, so this will be an aspect of shrinkflation.
6 replies omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107741448
I'd like that but I doubt it. Unless it's a small shop operation that is.
Normies don't buy Linux because it's new and they don't want to learn it. Anybody who Isn't afraid of learning something new will generally build their own rig anyways.

Also nobody is buying a computer in 2026, not at these prices.

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

Yeah it seems there is no real solution. I suppose the most logical option for me is going to be to just buy a bigger case which can fit more HDDs and put some of them in there. I already have HBAs (and they are quite cheap anyway) so I guess this is the way to go.

I've gone through all the states of grief today after that experience.
Now that I'm in the "acceptance" phase I think it's hilarious that amazon sends out these herculean leetcode problems out to almost anybody and waits for a monkey to stand out amongst the rubble and overcome the absolute horseshit they've thrown at them. I got this OA scheduled three days after I submitted my resume btw.

After spending about two hours trying to understand the problems I was given using claude, I would estimate that if I kept practicing at my daily pace of 4-6 hours of leetcode a day I it would still take me half a year before I would even have a chance of being able to solve a problem like this on the spot.

The closest problems that I could find related to what I was asked are these:
https://leetcode.com/problems/minimum-difficulty-of-a-job-schedule/description/
https://leetcode.com/problems/allocate-mailboxes/description/
https://leetcode.com/problems/minimum-cost-to-merge-stones/description/
and even then my problem was a mix of all of them, but harder than each individual one.

tomorrow im going to try locking all of these negative emotions away and continue my grinding like I wasn't just brutally mind raped.
>>
>>107746125
all this just to statistically stay for 2.5 years at amazon to eventually quit due to burnout

Yes we know. You must stick to your script.

Imagine using something based upon Fedora. A distro developed exclusively by US DoD contractors working in tandem with the NSA. Then coming here and trying to pretend it cares on iota about giving end users a secure operating system.

It isn't a hard equation to figure out. On one side you have a group of people hoarding zero days who refuse to disclose them in a timely manner. On the other side you have people getting alerted on said zero days through back channels that push out updates as quickly as possible. I know which people I trust with my systems and it isn't the ones paying million of dollars to shills every year and censoring every last technical discussion on the web whenever possible.

Is there a way to have a flexbox with variable max-width/min-with in order to accomodate the width for It's parent container? I would also like to always have the same gap width and no fixed amount of columns.

I achieved something like that enabling flex grow, but the last row' cards usually have more width than the rest of the cards in order to fill the whole width and I dont like that.

Fucking around with Windows XP to reproduce all the WM quirks accurately in a Wayland compositor
The event loop, basic protocols (core, Linux DMA-BUF, xdg_shell for toplevels and popups, zxdg_decoration for SSD, zwlr_layer_shell for Taskbar) are already implemented.
I'm only missing the WM behavior and actual decoration sizes and sprites.

I see what the problem was. 3/4 of those apps are dependencies for other functions (like the Samsung gallery enabling a gallery button in the camera even if it opens your non-stock gallery program) and other things that I'm not using right now but "could" want to use in the future. So I left them installed just in case but forgot all about it.
