You have 0 (ZERO) seconds to explain why you use Windows.
There is literally no excuse
>b-b-but muh games
GNU/Linux has a great selection of games, if you spend the majority of your time gaming, you are a child.
>b-b-but muh video/photo editing
There are excellent FOSS alternatives available. I know you're going to defend your proprietary garbage like goyshop because it has a few extra features, maybe if you cared enough you'd implement those features into the FOSS alternatives instead of giving up your freedom for the sake of convenience.
>b-b-b-but MUH JOB
If your job forces you to use software that doesn't respect your freedom, start looking for a different job.

Given that free GPU drivers only serve to load and interface with non free firmware that runs on your GPU and there being no free GPU firmware in existence, how practical would falling back to software acceleration with todays processor, especially in multi processor machines, be vs GPUs? How many years behind would this put one hardware wise?
>>
>>107703611
About......17 years back in terms of performance, with a current mid to high end CPU.
>>
>>107703611
Your CPU also has nonfree firmware. RMS says that nonfree firmware is fine as long as its fixed, i.e., can't be undated.

You can free up lots of memory on Fedora 43 by disabling abrt crash reporting services with systemctl. They are not needed unless you want to send crash reports etc. Includes abrt-ccpp, abrt-journal-core, abrt-oops, abrt-xorg, abrt-vmcore.

Also: fuck this new captcha system, not because it's "hard" it's not, it takes too much physical activity. Yet one more reason to stop using this shithole.

How is browsing the internet? Is it snappy enough?

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

I'm using Linux mint with a USB stick. I'm using another USB stick and I'm trying to copy files to the USB. If I click on remove safely, a message pops up saying that information is being written and that I shouldn't remove the drive.

It's been 5 minutes and I've got no notification and nothing. If I try to mount it doesn't let me it doesn't detect it. If I forcedly remove the USB, the files I copied disappear.

I've done nothing else. This exact same operation took me 5 seconds in windows 10. Why the fuck is Linux failing on this simple, short task, what the fuck.

clients don't remove unless you manually do it so versioning works as long as it's incremental or within a file
you can alter a file's contents or add new files but not remove files by just adding the torrent
if you really wanted it, you could use iso or tar as a wrapper, this way you can freely add or remove or rename and since torrent treats it as a single file it just werks
windows is pretty nice for this as you can mount isos by double-clicking them, linux is much more iffy with it
>>
>>107705028
I think the proper practice with shit like that is unmodified files retain the same filename but modified get some shit like "v2" or "v3" appended, so you can probably do some ghetto shit like:
get the new torrent, point it at the old content, verify everything, download the new shit, then either move the new content (folder) into another folder or entirely separate drive to check or delete what gets left over
there's probably some more elegant way with diff or rsync

Midi is a 90s audio format that works through reading instructions. Its completely dated and irrelevant in today's world. Last night I downloaded a zip on archive.org full of them. I was about to make a thread asking for a good midi player on Linux that didn't require a big ass UI for midi producers or cli only like mplayer, but then solved the problem.

To play midi on Linux simply install

vlc-plugin-fluidsynth.x86_64
fluidsynth.x86_64
fluidsynth-libs.x86_64

then just open VLC. Now you can play midi just as flawless as a Windows 95

NTA, but I highly recommend a "height"-blending shader if you have access to em. You can fake an entire tileset with a single texture (ideally with an alpha-channel heightmap, but you can fake it with luminosity) and some overlayed noise.

Something like this: https://www.shadertoy.com/view/cdGfWt
The process is, for each tile:
- determine which materials touch the tile (N=2 to keep it simple)
- calculate the strength of each material at each corner of the tile (vertex)
- interpolate strength across vertices in your frag shader
- (optional) multiply linear strength interpolation with noise map to hide the angular corners

picrel is what you get with that, I just took the top 9-tile square from anon's tile screenshot and merged the corners, then used that for alpha (seems like they used that for the original lmao). If you use an alpha-cutoff with a noise texture instead of a linear multiply like I did, you avoid the hard lines you can still see.

You ain't wrong, anon, and I appreciate the warning. Unfortunately, my entire department got shitcanned and nobody is hiring, so I'm just trying a hail mary before I go homeless, anyway. Having to worry about dependence/attenuation in a couple years is already further than my current plans.
