Can you install and boot linux from a external USB SSD?Or would PCIe x1 3.0 be better even if its lower?
>>107682448Can anyone suggest a video editing guide?
>>107706859>Can you install and boot linux from a external USB SSD?Yes, the question becomes do you want it UEFI or legacy BIOS bootable.>Or would PCIe x1 3.0 be better even if its lower?By PCIe do you mean a NVMe drive or what? And yes, anything that's not USB is better than USB.Also remember you need a "rootwait" boot argument with USB as USB "isn't there" instantly.

>>107705736I hate capitalism because instead of buisness owners being indepedent and self sustaining with their own software and digital tools they all depend on multi billion/trillion dollar tech companies like Google, Adobe and X. Even if this is a way to become filthy rich (for a few it is) its not freedom its economic slaverly. Not as bad as communism (where people starve) but its so fucking stupid how everyone is interdependent on big tech to succeed.

>The development comes a little over a year after the tech giant [Google] disclosed that its transition to Rust led to a decline in memory safety vulnerabilities from 223 in 2019 to less than 50 in 2024.>The company pointed out that Rust code requires fewer revisions, necessitating about 20% fewer revisions than their C++ counterparts, and has contributed to a decreased rollback rate, thereby improving overall development throughput.>We adopted Rust for its security and are seeing a 1000x reduction in memory safety vulnerability density compared to Android's C and C++ code. But the biggest surprise was Rust's impact on software delivery," Google's Jeff Vander Stoep said. "With Rust changes having a 4x lower rollback rate and spending 25% less time in code review, the safer path is now also the faster one >With roughly 5 million lines of Rust in the Android platform and one potential memory safety vulnerability found (and fixed pre-release), our estimated vulnerability density for Rust is 0.2 vuln per 1 million lines (MLOC).>Our historical data for C and C++ shows a density of closer to 1,000 memory safety vulnerabilities per MLOC. Our Rust code is currently tracking at a density orders of magnitude lower: a more than 1000x reduction.https://thehackernews.com/2025/11/rust-adoption-drives-android-memory.html
>>107691340After Canonical replacing well-understood commands with Rust replacements, there's no need to worry about about memory safety, since nothing works.

Is C still wortlh learning nowadays?I'm studying CS but my uni's program only teaches you Python, Java and C++ so i figured I'd try to start learning C on my own over the winter break.I already have a decent grasp on Python and Java and have always heard all the real enlightened big brain neProidians learn C to understand how a computer works beter since it's "close to the metal" unlike Python and Java but even starting out with Learn C the Hard Way, Zed Shaw says that C is a fundamentally flawed language and has many errors that later languages fixed into non-issues.Should I keep going

What's the best argument against taking the declarative distro pill?
Unironically if it's too hard for you. If you find it too difficult there's nothing wrong using a simple distro since you're using the OS to get something done in the end, so who cares as long as it works? On the upside Guix has very good documentation and Lispers love to answer questions. Nix documentation sucks so I don't recommend it to anyone who's uncertain desu, since Guix will probably help you out a lot more, and Scheme is a better language anyway. You can also feel a nice sense of relief when you inevitably do something extremely stupid and fix it by just rolling back Guix, and you've fixed everything in only a minute or two.But it's hard to imagine going back once you realize how easy it is to fix broken things on these systems.
