>>107851467lmao, I posted >>107851755 before reading this. thank god there's some amount of sense to be had left. either jxl threads are heavily astroturfed or there's a ton of retards coming out of the woodwork dropping their takes when it comes to this topic in particular.
>>107848839based, but why we cant never get a good discussion going on in these threads?
>>107852566From a neutral position, JXL is great at some things and bad at others so it's easy to start fights with it.
If you want a tablet and also want to draw, should you get an iPad or a Samsung tablet?
>>107852366Oh yeah for sure, I'm aware of what apps I'd need. Just unsure of what kind of tablet I should buy. I'm considering either getting a Samsung or a Xiaomi in the ~300€ price range. Xiaomi seems great for "bang for your buck" hardware but I've made somewhat terrible experiences with their bloatware. Meanwhile buying a samsung feels like paying 100€ in ransom money just to have the same hardware with none of the shitty bloat. That's my experience with phones at least, I don't know how applicable it is to their tablets.
>>107852385Xiaomi build quality is absolute shit, I had two phones from them and in both cases the battery expanded the back panel glue didn't hold it for shitgot an s25 and never buying chinkshit again
>>107852423Guess the "bloatware" was literal there hohohoSeems like Xiaomi was basically "passable" around the time I had one and has only gotten worse since. My mom still has sa Xiaomi phone and they put a fucking shop into the UI, I think she also had some indian app that auto-installed itself and sent her notifications. My phone was draining battery like crazy until I noticed that the Xiaomi gallery app was draining 50% of it just by endlessly running in the background, apparently when it was a bug that would make it get stuck in a loop when trying to read a corrupted file. Now that I think about it I'm probably best off never buying Xiaomi again
>drawFaggot, you don't need to "draw," and you're shit at it anyway. Just use AI now like the rest of human population

install fault on HP 15-fd0083wmI downloaded and created my USB installer drive directly from the Elementary OS website. it works in live mode. when I try to "erase disk and install" it instantly faults and cannot install. id does this even after a clean format. after some searching I tried "custom install" option after using Gparted to format the drive and create partitions (512MB for FAT32 boot) and then the rest as ext4. then when I return to the installer and select "custom install" and select my partitions, the windows overlap in such a way I cannot see, select or confirm anything on the partitions. resizing the primary installer window does nothing. additionally, I only seem able to select the 512MB FAT32 partition, and have been unable to select the larger partition.apparently there is/are known issues with the installer on some computers. my craptop has an UFS SSD which is also probably an issue. something about recognition? I've read so much shit it's all starting to run together in my brain.I got Mint XFCE installed and running on it last night. that also took some finesse, again, I believe, because of the UFS. after several terminal entries in Live, i was able to get it running normally. despite that, I would prefer to run Elementary if at all possible. I have tried forums, GIThub threads and Grok to assess, diagnose and mitigate. still no joy. This is my second Linux install ever and I am not a "computer guy" by any stretch.this computer has a nearly identical origin story to the last one I posted aboot here. it was left behind when a tenant moved out of an apartment presumably because of a bad battery. I got a free battery from Amazon Vine, and was able to get it to boot. being that it is 8 years newer than my Stream 11-Y010, faster and more storage, in dont *need* to run the bare bones Mint XFCE. I would like something a bit more modern and stylish, ie: Elementary 8.1What say you Anon?
This piece of shit is always broken and it's not a fault but a feature

>What happens on January 19, 2038?>On this date the Unix Time Stamp will cease to work due to a 32-bit overflow. Before this moment millions of applications will need to either adopt a new convention for time stamps or be migrated to 64-bit systems which will buy the time stamp a "bit" more time. How much shit is going to break on that date? Will I have 4chan to shitpost with my bros about it by then?
>>107851621yes

Should I get a PS/2 mouse and keyboard? The only advantage I've heard is that they will keep working regardless of drivers.
>>107852490>Does your board even have ps2 ports?this
>>107852568>No. I forget exactly what the limitation was, I think you can't press three keys at a time or something, because of interrupts, so USB is best.I watched a linus video and he said it was the opposite. You can press as many keys as you want and it will always work.>>107852490yeah I do
>>107852615Yeah its been a few years since I had one, but there was this annoying, obvious limitation that solidified my choice of USB over PS2. However, if your motherboard has a port for it, why not? Always good to have a spare keyboard, plus it will work from the moment that the power comes on to your PC, which is handy sometimes.
>>107852353I don't really see the point outside of screwing with retro computers. You'll find that the experience is more or less the same, except you may not be able to hotswap PS/2 devices.
>>107852353>driversWho cares? The real benefit is how fast and efficient it is, in the sense that it can stop the cpu to tell it you did something and it has to take input, while USB can't do that, so the cpu has to constantly ask the peripherals if you moved the mouse or typed something. The killing drawback, the reason we stopped using it entirely, is that it isn't hot swappable.

Eventually everyone will look back on Android the same way we now look back on Betamax tapes and Polaroid cameras.https://9to5mac.com/2026/01/12/iphone-market-share-now-bigger-than-samsung-not-just-due-to-iphone-17/

Anyways people my age view androids and cheapo garbage phones, the majority of people still uses androids, but not the younger people!!! We don't really use imessage or airdrop here (thank god) but damn you are just a weirdo with an android. I honestly want to switch to iphone out of peer pressure. But iOS doesn't even have the apps that I want. If google really shuts down sideloading, I'll switch to fucking iOS.
>>107850820True, and it's because Android was basically killed. It's been going down the drain for the last 10 years, and the last 5 it's accelerated to lightspeed.Genuinely impressive actually, they took their one competitive advantage (user freedom) and threw it away.
