Needing some advice on music players for Linux. Running Antergos. Installed a few, and so far the only viable option is Audacious, but it is missing some creature comforts that I got with foobar. Most importantly, I want one that will support some sort of convolver, since I have impulse waveforms for all of my cans. I am using a Schiit stack to play everything. Anyone have any recommended players?
Besides the preinstalled Rhythmbox, I've tried Fooyin, Strawberry, and recently Musikcube. They're all cool but I think I might miss MusicBee from Windows (or at least the cool Tron theme I used on it). Anyway does anyone know if this is any good for adding replaygain metadata to my music? https://github.com/complexlogic/rsgainI rip CDs because why not and most of them need replaygain. Any alternatives would be great.
>>107690179lel imagine if he was still using antergos
>>107690065"deadbeef" (gtk) or "fooyin" (qt)>>107690171this
>>107691262replaygain is good if you're listening to playlists or poorly mastered songs where the volume between each track is going to jump around a lot. it's just a metadata tag that tells your player to turn up the voluem a specific amount so you don't have to do any reencoding.>rsgainI use it, it works great and is super fast with multithreading
>>107690065I like strawberry myself.

>>107691619>Yes they would I've used every major Windows version since 3.11.You have to be over 18 to post here.>7 is snappy running from a period correct 7200 RPM HDD.No it's not. With a 7200rpm drive they will, at best, manage to boot up on a fresh new install. If you use any modern application or even just an antivirus, they will slow down to a barely useable crawl. One of the first things we used to do when servicing Windows 7 machines was to change the boot drive to an SSD, fortunately they all use at most 500GB HDDs inside so it's easy to just do an image copy to a same size SSD, then run from that and have everything be 1000x faster.Shit, I have an old Turion laptop somewhere that took ten minutes to boot Win7 from a HDD, then I swapped one of my old spares in and now it's snappy as Speedy Gonzalez, I mean as long as you don't do anything that would require CPU calculations or use more than 2GB of RAM (so basically one browser tab only).
>>107690459Windows 10 1703 was the last version that worked somewhat fine with HDDs.

>>107691840just use decent speakers if you want to listen to podcasts/games/movies w/e.good used speakers are free-$100 used because the shear volume of boomers getting rid of them doesn't match how many people want them. Anything super high end is still $1k+ but good quality ones are still absurdly cheapget a decent receiver/amp and basically any speaker from mirage, paradigm, energy, athena(less so), klispch, roland, mission etc. It's sort of country based so you'll have to see whats around in your country, anyways loads are from golden years of canadian speaker manufacturing or the ukhaving a decent set of speakers for games or movies is beyond kino anon i highly recommend it.
>>107688678>>107689084>Those amplify for headphones . Not line level so it wont sound the bestLine inputs typically have an impedance of ~10 kΩ or higher. That's orders of magnitude above any headphone and thus a much easier load, there's no problem as long as the maximum output voltage of the dongle is sufficient to drive the amp to its maximum output. The better dongles have a maximum output voltage of 2 Vrms unbalanced or 4 Vrms balanced, which is the same as most desktop DACs and CD players, so pretty much any amp should be fine with that. Many integrated amps are even fine with much less, e.g. Yamaha A-S301/501/701 input sensitivity is specified to be 200 mVrms.
Ugh man I want a CD player that I can use as a transport on my desk and also take it out. These fiios and other chinky ones are fucking dogshit. The Shanling EC Zero T is pretty good but I'm butthurt about the high output impedance. DUNU Concept R is perfect in every aspect except it's not actually fucking portable. >>107691888I had an Nvidia card once. Then support was dropped and I had about 3 months where nouveau couldn't use it and the proprietary driver wouldn't either. But the main thing that made me say "Never again nvidia" was that I got sick of doing DKMS builds on every kernel update.Eventually I got rid of DKMS and just started a maintenance cycle of>drop to TTY1>/etc/init.d/lightdm stop / /etc/init.d/gdm stop>package manager to update kernel (or a kernel compile if I was doing something special)>update grub>reboot into new kernel (X will not start now and that's fine)>log back into TTY1>Nvidia installer>reboot into new kernel again>doneDKMS is a fragile gacha that sometimes would automagically work and sometimes it would still fuck up in unpredictable ways.

>>107691937But it's true doe.Valve is funding KDE so VRR and HDR just werk on Wayland compositors. They are also funneling money to flatpak devs working with KDE. The future is KDE Wayland with flatpaks as a competitor to windows. Everything else is quite irrelevant. KDE is much snappier and faster than windows and it looks much cleaner. My only complaint is the themes store they have built into the desktop, its tacky.

What has changed in the last 20 years?Image formats, audio formats, video formats, codecs, etc. all are basically the same. No new software that really requires a new computer. Everything you can do today can be done on a 15 year old computer. What has even changed in operating systems? Shiny buttons, fancy graphics, and more fluff just so people have something to feel good about when they post their lame ricing screenshots. After so many years, we still don't even have an open design of a CPU, Motherboard, RAM or any component. Forget current generation, if that's too much to ask, but even the ones from a decade ago don't have an open design.
