I am regularly amazed that we pretend folders are the right way to organise files. They’re entirely arbitrary. Every competent file system ignores them to its best ability. Why can’t I have a file in two folders? Why does one have to be a “reference”? Why can’t I filter for files that exist in 3 folders with X extension?

We’ve been played for absolute fools.

all “search” algos are on a variation of a b-tree index, so hierarchical filesystems were a way to make it simpler when you had limited compute

main issue is that if you wanna move away from it you need to start filling indexes with other shit to allow people to quick search for files, and that goes against the unix philosophy and its pretty much bloatware

Export the ReadEra Backup. Open with a computer, extract with Winrar or something. There is a JSON document, library.json. If you have the same collection on your computer and you organize the latter, you can write some scripts to make the same changes to library.json and import it back to ReadEra

I know lot of streamers/YouTubers who became famous and just started in 2021. It’s not over until it’s fully over, and if AI agents and other AI systems manage to get infinite context windows we will have a lot more jobs automated outside of streaming videogames.

How do people become seriously good with tech? Did they get exposure from a young age? Mentorship from someone who actually wanted to teach them?
Like the people that figure out how to decompile games or repack old games for new operating systems. People who build software/hardware that can interface with old consoles, shit like that?

I've always loved games and computers but I grew up in a religious, anti science household. I finished community college pre-stem courses and I code in C++, but I can't help feel like a retard compared to real technical knowledge

This. My parents refused to get me a console because they were cheapskates but we had a family PC. I googled everything constantly and a year later, I was torrenting .ISOs and emulating Gamecube, which was great because I didn't actually have one.

People who reverse engineer games are either old fags or giga autists. Like genius level IQ either way lol

Why aren't you downloading all the software/tools for anything you could ever want to do offline on your OS since 2010?

Download sites for obscure tools and utilities go down every year, accelerated since the last 5. Software support cycles are the fire in which we burn.

I have over 300GB of archived installers for everything. Software I use regularly or ocasionally, have used in the past, or might need eventually.
I also keep installers and archives from old versions when I updoot.

I also softwaremaxx in my OS installs, just my "programs and features" CP applet has over 250 installed programs, not counting dozens of software that don't have installers

Not everyone uses all their space for porn, storing all my favorite anime needs heaps of space! While the rest of the available space is reserved for porn I don't really think it invalidates my argument.

It's a good idea to use a VPN.

OVH has unlimited bandwidth VPS, you can set it up with wireguard on it. That will allow for port forwarding.

At the very least you should require encryption in the qbit client. But if you communicate with UDP trackers, that's unencrypted as far as I know.

There are excellent FOSS alternatives available. I know you're going to defend your proprietary garbage like goyshop because it has a few extra features, maybe if you cared enough you'd implement those features into the FOSS alternatives instead of giving up your freedom for the sake of convenience.

Even linux support for these chips isn't great. I was interested in the qualcomm laptops, but qualcomm's lack of support for linux made me lose interest. I am so tired of arm hardware with poor vendor support.
>>
(((they))) want us to move to ARM for the locked bootloaders
>>
>>107690646
Snapdragon has been great for me, I've been dailying mine for about 16 months now. People like >>107697328 will meme that software doesn't work because they haven't actually used one recently. Nearly everything "just werks" without any special config. The only limitations I've found involve software that's legacy and/or niche, such as an ECU tool for a 20 year old car and the firmware updater for Innoasis MP3 players.

For a laptop, ARM gives you both battery life and thermals (the fans almost never spin up). In the rare occasion I need to do something ARM can't handle, such as the Innoasis firmware updater, I just use my desktop. If you need to run a lot of oddball software and it's your only computer, ARM probably isn't for you. But if you're doing fairly regular things or have other computers (like most of /g/ presumably), ARM is ideal for a mobile device.

>>107690846
If you want an arm chip that just works for $500 then you won’t do much better than a second hand M2 MacBook Air. User experience, performance and software support will be infinitely better than a $500 windows arm laptop
