Should FOSS be on social media? Is KDE e.v. employee Paul Brown right about X being a nazi platform?Discuss
>>107706525I dunno I'm kind of a nazi and I never use xitter.
>>107706525Twitter is so weird, sure you have "free speech" but there are actual bots and people that literally behave like bots + larpers. It's fine if you use it more like an RSS feed via nitter for a few selected people you like to follow, otherwise it's completely shit.
>>107706525>hey paul!
FOSS should never be on proprietary web services like X or github.

Had Logitech G305 - developed doubleclicking in a yearSwitched to CoolerMaster MM712 - scroll wheel started scrolling in random directions in a year, on top of shitty wireless connectivity. And the funniest thing is that I used $5 store brand mice before and all of them lasted me much longer than that without issues. Is there a single reliable brand of wireless mice that work and I won't have to pay through the roof to get?
Has anyone tried the keychron mice? Thinking about picking one up.
Short answer, no. Long answer, the industrial revolution and its consequences have been disastrous for the human race. Modern mice are built fully for the concept of planned obsolescence, because we are now about a decade past the point where optical sensors were considered perfect. To put it simply, there is no possible improvement to be made in standard mice according to the current meta. You can make them slightly lighter, that's about it. Because of this, manufacturers have been designing their circuits wrong on purpose to kill switches by undervolting them, there is no fix for this. Anyone who says "lol solder a new one in every 2 months" is a retard. In order to "fix" the issue they created because people got mad about it, manufacturers started using optical switches instead. The current failure component is the scroll wheel, which is kind of a double deal of assfuckery with NO POSSIBLE FIXES.No fixes, you ask? How is that possible? Well, the current zeitgeist is weight management, and traditional optomechanical scroll wheels, the kind that have been around for 30+ years and nobody has ever had a failure with, are a little heavier. The modern solution, the mechanical encoder, is a cheaply made piece of garbage intended to solve this problem by making the whole assembly lighter, and also about a billion times less reliable. In about 5-10 years, you'll start seeing hall effect scroll wheels to "fix" this problem.Meanwhile, I use a mouse made by whites in a first world country for industry applications with components used within spec, and so it'll probably fail in 100 years.
>>107696886my G203 died to a coffee spill then came back to life, never had click issues in 2 years but I broke the scrollwheel in some tardrageso I got a G305 and if that shits the bed I stole an old but mostly unused Microsoft WMO not long ago and will use that for the foreseeable future
>>107697048you will always be a woman
I never really get double clickIt's always the side bottons or middle mouse that goes first

How does Red Hat make money if Linux is free?
But Fedora43 is supposed to be good....
>>107708883fedora is good because it's not completely under Red Hat control, there is still some (albeit not 100%) community control. That's why fedora uses btrfs and redhat is still keeping XFS on life support in RHEL.
>>107708817>Red Hat is shit unlike the big data giants who wants me to host everything on their servers. They're not 1:1 competitors, Red Hat services are mostly about having total infra management, with migrations to AWS, Azure, Google, etc, because the cloud alternatives clearly are not at the same scale. You're oversimplifying things in a totally retarded way.
>>107708916I'm saying Red Hat only has low-mid tier software engineers, and any good software engineer knows they can get a lot more money going to FAANG or a unicorn. The big 3 cloud providers have their own modifications and custom distro for Linux, use their own internal infrastructure tools. The cream of the crop of RedHat employees get picked up by FAANG and what's left are mediocre developers. Have you ever used a RedHat product outside of RHEL? Ansible or Satellite? They both are horribly designed and full of bugs.
>>107708883Wasn't 43 buggy as shit before they started fixing that?
/dpt/ - Daily Programming ThreadWelcome to the Daily Programming Thread. What are you working on, /g/?Previous thread >>>107670460
I'm overwhelmed I feel like I need to understand things at a LOW-LEVEL but I also need to BUILD FAST and just FINISH THINGS.
>>107707892Your teachers just suck.
>>107707916you literally do not know who i am
>>107707991If believing that makes you feel comfortable.
>>107707892You should split your time and do both. Low level understanding is invaluable, but it's also an endless quest. You'll never reach a point where you feel like you understand everything that makes your program work. The only way is to iteratively deepen your low-level understanding while also practicing your ability to actually ship stuff.
New version is out. Also, why was my previous thread deleted? This is a software-based application explicitly engineered for operation within the computational and telecommunications framework of a handheld mobile device, ok? It is therefore unambiguously situated within the broader domain of contemporary technological systems, infrastructures, and applied digital sciences, and as such relevant to /g/.

Hello /g/, this is not my usual board (/adv/) sorry. And im sorry im not just jerking off stallman and torvalds Im a junior cs and biomath double major at a US target university I really want some advice on how to bag a summer tech internship for this current cycle at like pharma, genomics, or medical equipment companies and the like. The job market is really bad and i hear a lot of horror storis about how there are no more internships or entry level jobs for CS majors anymore.i have some research experience, but my gpa kinda sucks and im just gonna half-lie about it. My experience, like projects, is mostly in educational tech to be honest. Professors tell me theyre impressive projects, but yknowAny advice?
>>107708820Okay sorry i didnt realize employment was such a touchy topic

Have any of you tried e-ink monitors? How was it on your eyes?
>>107706176I'm going to consume one of these
Yeah I don't care about technology anymore. The last cpu worth buying was an i7 4790k. The last gpu worth buying was an 1080 ti. The last OS worth using was windows 7.
>>107706176not monitor, but Kindle is nice
Every e-ink screen over 7 inches or so costs an arm and a leg for some reason. If I got one for free, it'd use it to read books I guess. I don't think it works for anything else, even editing text because of the refresh delay
>>10770867610" readers are under $400 and 13" ones start at $580. Not that different from the $200 the 7" models cost these days.>even editing text because of the refresh delayWriting latency has dropped to 10ms for some brands, 60Hz monitors also exist. You're making assumptions based off the shittiest implementations.
