>Song submission rules/guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may not use your real artist name.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Use of AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is already a no-no.

>(Also I'm a dumbass I didn't need to math it, I thought the 2021 was the DATE, not the cycle count).
*I'm a bigger dumbass because I mixed up the cycle count with hours.
Also I am too tired to realize if these numbers make any sense.
Someone else can probably correct me at what it means.
Because my brain says to just multiply by 8 because cycle = 8 hours, so you spent 11 hours, but that must be wrong...
Someone correct me.

OH 2020 was 6 years ago, I was using 4 years because I remember the m1 came out at the second half of the year or something.
And a heavy workload like video editing will reduce the charge to 2 hours or something.
So the usage is very normal (like 4 hours a day~), but... the cycle shouldn't be affected while being charged...

If you move to it from linux then it's similar levels of suck, slightly worse in some ways, slightly better in others.
If you move from windows it's a big downgrade.
I've had 2 attempts in my life to use that shit and ended up selling my macs, the last one was 2 years ago.

There's many issues to talk about, but some I remember as really annoying are:
1. Full screen doesn't exist, when you fullscreen something it creates another virtual desktop and moves the app to it. This is beyond dumb, and slow as hell when you want to alt tab constantly between something that is fullscreened and something that isn't because you are moving virtual desktops.
2. The file manager is worthless, it can't even align files on its own, if you right click inbetween 4 files to create a folder then it will literally create it there overlapping them, you can rearrange it later with an option, but it's so stupid. it has other problems as well that you can only understand after experiencing the shit yourself.
3. It does bs color grading, when you play a video with mpv it will look off, downloading color profiles that supposedly match the macos one don't truly fix the issue either, the colors will be off, I was only able to fix this by buying one of those garbage macos only video players that are missing most functionality you need. This doesn't even happen with youtube videos so idk wtf is going on with that OS.
4. Many small problems, interface designed for mobile users, it will be hard to find or disable so much dumb shit like mouse acceleration, it's a similar experience with linux and its garbage defaults.
5. If you think you can just emulate windows games then give up on the idea, it's more miss than hit, don't bet on anything working decently.
Overall if you don't do video or music editting I see no point to this OS.
>>
>>107849481
Also I'm wrong about the 300 cycle part.
apple's batteries keeps 80% charge at 1000 cycles.
So that matches up with your battery health perfectly.
(assuming that the health % is accurate, and not a number that is calculated purely from the cycle count, 80% of 80% is 64% so technically your battery is slightly better than expected?).

>>107849544
>And a heavy workload like video editing will reduce the charge to 2 hours or something.
On an M series? Was the M1 that bad or is the vaunted macbook battery life just that terrible? My AMD stinkpad lasts 2-4 hours on heavy usage and it's x86

I grabbed a 4070ti super because the gains for the 4080 were negligible. I don't recall or care if the 50 series was out or announced at the time. What's the intent here with trying so hard to shit on the 3090?
Nothing stays future proof, you build to what you want to do and value propositions fluctuate.

pricing complain is fair because of the $700 3080 but the 4090 definitely uses less watts than the 3090 when gaming

What if AI won’t be able to advance much further beyond what it is now do to the astronomical resource consumption? What if we just run out of the shit that keeps it going? What then?

What I don't understand is how Apple fell behind like this. Apple was the one who came out with Siri which everyone at the time look at as something that would eventually progress into what we have now with conversational AI and agentic AI. Then they just did next to nothing with it, allowed Google to come in and surpass it with Google Assistant, allowed Bixby to even show some usefulness in comparison and now Siri is going to be powered by the Gemini models because they dropped the ball that hard. Was Steve Jobs really that much better than Tim Cook at that when he passed basically all progress and vision at Apple stopped and they just focused on maximizing their existing lineups?
>>
>>107849663

this is probably my favorite syscall of all time. we could spend weeks discussing this alone. it is extremely powerful, versatile, and widely used. not to mention, it's one of the (somewhat) rare six argument syscalls. some potential points of discussion:
> the addr argument, and its use without flags, with MAP_FIXED, and with MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE
> file-backed vs anonymous mappings
> the concept of pages, page sizing, and alignment
> guard pages and PROT_NONE
> the actual meaning of SIGSEGV, and how there's more to segfaults than simply process crashes
> core dumps and stack traces
> other related signals, such as SIGBUS
> MAP_GROWSDOWN and the stack
> the use of mmap (as opposed to brk) for allocation via the *alloc family
> manual memory management vs an allocation scheme

>The data will instead get written directly to a memory address you specify
It won't, though. Not with read(), not with io_uring. The data will get written to the kernel's page cache (that way, if another process tries reading the file, it will already be in memory). With read() and io_uring, (part of) the data in the page cache will get copied to the buffer you specify, whereas with mmap(), you get a view of the page cache itself, with no need to copy anything.
>>
>>107844659
when it comes to performance read can be a lot if you don't need to read a whole file e.g. find some string in a file
otherwise memory mapped files are the way to go most of the time since its also easier to make them read-only or tell kernel how you want to use the file
>>
>>107845169
malloc is turbo fucking dogshit and top 3 cause of issue in C programs
and malloc doesn't let you a lot of the things that are possible with memory (prefault, make it read-only etc.)
>>
>>107845826
Multics did have a high-level stream-based I/O interface that could also abstract over files and AIUI virtual memory was so difficult on the early Unix hardware that they didn't have it until Bill Joy brought over some BSD tapes. It makes sense that they went with streams as a primitive even without the worse is better boogeyman.
>>
>>107848169
i mean, if you're having issues with malloc, you're probably going to have issues with mmap, too

this guy is pretty similar to mmap in a lot of ways, with the obvious difference being that mprotect only lets you change the protections of mappings which already exist.
since we didn't talk about SIGSEGV much in the last thread, perhaps that could be the focus of this one?

But why not do what futurama did where its just a plain robot and then they overlay the identity overtop. Now granted we cant do that but with ar or vr goggles why not have a character model superimpose on a blank robot like joi and that hooker?

Maybe add hair and clothing of similar mesh so u can twirl ur girls hair or w.e. but beyond that it doesnt even need eyes and shit. Its all presented in vr goggles.

So question how long until a proto holodexk. Where i can create on demand a virtual 3d space like a white villa on a fruitger aero blue beach surrounded by ocean. With a cute emo blonde girl with eyeliner that then i can snuggle with, dance, pick up, and obv smash her puss.

China will be the first to develop it in whatever form it takes. They have destroyed the male/female ratio with their one child policy.

My best guess will be a robotic doll with basic movements that will will have textured hair/skin, but the rest of it will be covered in tracking marks of some kind.

You'll wear AR glasses to what this scene in Blade Runner did with the hooker.

Honestly don't care at this point.

A year of playing on my Steam Deck has forced me to become a patient gamer. I care more about clearing my backlog of older games, than trying to brute-force these new bloated AAA games with AI and fake frames on my main desktop.
Thanks to the ram/GPU shortage, most of these lazy devs are going to be forced to optimize for lower-end hardware if they want to make sales.

lmao, no
optimization costs serious money and competent developers. Most publishers would rather force you into paying for GeForce Now sub than to increase development costs.
