Fellow software engineers, what's your plan for the next 5-10 years?I wasn't worried until Sonnet & Opus 4.5 but it genuinely one shots everything I give it. We went from doing 30 story points (team of 4) to 60 per sprint after the release. The writing is on the wall, software engineering will be the first white collar job to be automated. What do we do afterwards?
>>107682107Yep.And as the tools get better I'll also het better at using them.As far as I can tell, it's the people qith less experience doing less complex jobs that are fucked, which can't be good for the future.
>>107681082Not really, unless the team is directly managed by upper management. Middle management never want headcount reductions, as it's bad for their own careers. For them it's preferable to have engineers idle or 100% making powerpoint fodder than to lose headcount. They don't really care about AI other than that they "drove AI adoption cross-functionally for 247% efficiency gain".
>>107678679this, just waiting to see how bad it gets

How do you cope with the increased workloads?AI hasn't replaced programming jobs yet, but It feels like they just throw more shit at you with smaller teams and shorter deadlines?

What's the dumbest thing you ever did to your computer anons? Obviously we all know much better now, but I know you've got a story tucked away somewhere about that time you deleted system32 because that nice internet man told you it would make your computer run faster. Or that time you removed the french language pack after getting your shiny new Ubuntu install up and running. Hit me with 'em, let's have a laugh and relive the days when we had to get the family PC running again before dad got back from work.

Gave my Bitwarden password to a friend because I was planning on committing suicide, decided not to, and 2 years later got one of my accounts stolen by that same friend after we'd fallen out because I forgot I did that. Also accidentally installed a virus because I blindly trusted the first google result for an obscure printer software. Not proud of either of those.
>>107682032I did this with WoW on a site that was, on the surface, a clone of their WotLK beta test application site. Some chink scammer used my account to do some farming, sold some mats I wanted to sell anyway, and had gotten me gkicked. By the time I recovered my account after waking up that evening (lol), there was a little more gold in it than when I had logged off last and I had to get a new ginvite. I don't know how I fell for that site, I have never been gotten by anything like that before or since, and the opportunities have been in the hundreds probably.
>>107682032this, many kids grew up and got fucked by the steam fishing shit. i knew it was a bad idea as well, deep down inside you feel it, but you ignore the danger (probably due to lack of exposure). I learned a valuable lesson that day, hopefully I don't need to learn another.

I use QubesOS with detached boot partition on 2 duplicated USB drives with any data that rests on the SSD/HDDs being encrypted with LUKS2. Whonix gateway is proxied through a VPN qube to hide Tor IPs (can't hide communication patterns) without bridges since bridge IPs can be farmed. Sometimes Tor through I2P outproxy or vice-versa or with different anonymizing network overlays. Clients used for browsing are only opened in on-RAM ephemeral qubes with no access to permanent storage. Attack surface is quite minimum since no extra things added like USB mouse and no PV qubes (aside from sys-usb and sys-net) are used for launching HVM qubes with qemu stub domains unless very necessary and every other qube on the system gets shut down first to keep information leakage minimum. A veracrypt volume with hidden storage on a permanent qube for data storage and plausible deniability.what's your setup like?

On the topic of privacy. What browser should I use?I've noticed that the content of random pages, even 4chan pages, and the things I type anywhere in the web browser are being tracked. Youtube shows me recommendation based on that. It's disturbing and it wasn't like that before.I'm using Firefox right now with strict protection and ublock. Should I switch to librewolf? I don't understand why doesn't arch have it in the default repositories.
