Here's your new run dialog bro

mostly this.
ui designers want to keep their job, so they find excuses to change things that do not need changing, without taking risk, resulting in the shit ui's we have now.

combined with the vectorization of ui's, profit maxxin, 3rd world import and a myriad of other things, here we are.
>>
>>107670561
the UI designers have no visibility or say on the shitty jeetcode webshit implementation and companies almost never look for UI design people who know how to program or how the systems work. the terrible performance, lag, glitches are ux too, but the UI designers are completely isolated from those concerns by the hiring process.

i dont think you are able to define what you think "minimalism" is. win9x/xp had way less crap going on the screen and had rather rudimentary uis.

this new run dialog is basically another stab at having a maocs quicksilver-like launcher from like 2004
https://qsapp.com/about.php
or mac spotlight https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotlight_(Apple)

a stock windows 95 or gaanoo loonix rice with just a tiling wm and dmenu is something vaguely "minimal" by today's standards..........

>ui designers want to keep their job, so they find excuses to change things that do not need changing, without taking risk, resulting in the shit ui's we have now.

UI designers do not make these decisions, they are almost on the same level as code monkeys in the pecking order.

The brief they receive from the above (Product Manager, Product Owner) already says 'here draw a new thing that does this and that but also that, and have it touch friendly kind of like iOS, it will replace the legacy windows95...'
>>
>>107658583
It honestly looks great, why wouldn't you want ms to make everything into mica/winui3 style? Isn't /g/ constantly bitching about W11 being inconsistent in terms of UI? What's going on big guy

Does /g/ use a vertical monitor? What kind? Is curved or flat better for vertical displays?

Are you using the split screen function of the monitor itself? Why not just use a tiling window manager at that point?

probably mixing up "efficiency" and "effectiveness". a computer pulling 600W vs. a space heater pulling 2,000W isn't going to heat a room as quickly as a space heater, even though it's no less efficient at turning electricity into heat

and in terms of background, I'm a mechanical engineer who first tried to switch to computer science after learning that programming is fun. did my master's thesis and now finishing up a PhD at a robotics lab, but before that I worked in industrial controls for a bit (mix of freelance design gigs and actual employment) as well as a short stint as a backend dev during my MSc. quit that place to do my thesis at the robotics lab, but that was evidently a very poor decision.

it's a mess and that mess was caused entirely by the fact that I couldn't find a job right after undergrad, maybe due to COVID but most likely because I am a ugly incel undeserving of happiness.

my mistake, i've been drinking so i accidentally assumed that you were both the same anon
you're right in that your background is a shitshow and it's definitely holding you back, though you should still have enough experience to get you in somewhere if you do enough resume spinning and AI tailoring for each job you apply to.
from a quick, lazy glance at hiring.cafe, it sounds like you'd be able to snag a junior robotics engineer job somewhere, since the split software/mechanical background + computer vision experience matches what they're typically looking for. however, this is out of my field of expertise so i may be wrong
if you're super desperate, take the FE exam, get your EIT, and work as a slave at an MEP firm till you get your PE. it'll suck but im sure you can manage it
>>
>>107671422
I'm not american
>what they're typically looking for [in junior robotics engineers]
are new grads from top unis (and jeets) not old retards like me. And ideally they want people with experience in the EXACT specific niche they are looking to fill.

I've already given up on finding a technical job by now. Just coming here to rant. Just need to do my last few months, get the participation trophy and go on unemployment while I pick up an electrician cert. Or maybe honestly just anhero at this point, not like there's anything left to look forward to in life.

It's just immensely frustrating that there are so many things I can do and many of them very well, but in the end none of it was enough to even get a basic bitch corporate slave job.

I just sold my iPhone 16 pro max, my MacBook m4 pro and my apple watch because of how awful the iPhone is. The phone is so buggy its insane. Alarm clock still fails to work out of nowhere despite being a over 10 year old bug. Keyboard is useless and missing universal back gesture is just awful design. The new iOS 26 ruined dark mode and made it look like a cheap toy, guy who bought my iPhone thought it was fake because he never used iOS 26 in person. Thats how shitty iOS is. But yeah riddled with 10 year old bugs that will get you fired and just bad design choices in general. I am a serious man so I need serious tech which is why I got an S25 ultra that actually fucking works. Its a shame because I liked the apple watch a lot and the macbook as well except Tahoe. Ugly as shit.

Most lithography machines get used for decades.

A chip consists of dozens of layers and you only need the newest and best machines for the first few layers.
So when a better machine comes out the older machines just get pushed down the line.

In an interview an engineer from ASML even said he found it a bit annoying having to build machines that came out two decades ago but sometimes an old machine breaks and the customers wants a 1:1 replacement instead of an upgrade.
>>
>>107668132
Where are you interviewing ASML engineers?
>>
so what happens when they literally cannot hire enough people to make all of these chips? Do they just stop taking orders? Or just keep taking them knowing they can't make them?

t. 15+ years coding
>>
>>107666389
nta, I don't mind doing leetcode problems, it's kind of fun to just right normal code like back in school and not OOP inheritance getfactory setvalue bullshit over and over... but leetcode gets annoying when the actual questions become over-complicated. I'm pretty sure at this point they're just making up problems that have never existed to anyone ever because they need to keep adding problems.
