Is Yandex the best search engine to use as an America? My primary concern is US government surveillance

Your comment is so insanely ignorant I don't even know how to explain this to you in a way you'd understand outside of recommending you start studying encryption methods from ground zero. I hope you look back on your comment in a decade and realize how pants-on-head retarded it was.

The Russian government ? No. A Yandex employee or affiliate for a few dollars? Yes

This would be a good way to actually get your searches personally looked by an intelligence analyst since less than %1 of searches in the US are with.

I can tell you exactly it would. Say there's an advertising company in Kazachstan or whatever the fuck shithole that's not hostile to Russia. And this company is a CIA front. So this company approaches Yandex offering a handsome sum, or employee with a bribe. They tell Yandex they want to advertise to Americans send your data from America to us. And then Russia is not going to bend over backwards protecting American data. Know what the worst thing is? The CIA front wouldn't have to convince or bribe Yandex. Data sharing with affiliates is automated and they can pick the data they want like it's Amazon shopping.

I guarantee you this is going on exactly or something very close to it.

are there any good attention grabbing laptops that aren't gaming ones? (as in not like the pic)

I hate how drab and boring a lot of modern laptops are. It's like they're designed for people who are anti-social.

So what does the rest of the money go to? progressive propoganda or something?

I know jack shit about computers, but I need a small, durable laptop for college. Ideally, it would have a long battery life, be lightweight, and survive at least five years. It's going to go through a lot of abuse, but I mostly just need it for the internet and a word processor. Maybe some light photo and video editing.

Is there anything under $250 that isn't shit? Thanks

windows / linux if usually fine but the moment you’ll run into some issues you will get a shrug because not only will the instructor not care, he probably couldn’t help you even if he wanted to - at bedt he knows some python and how to use venv and that’s about it.
In contrast when something fucks up on a mac you won’t be the only one with that issue so it’ll get solved efficiently
being a special snowflake isn’t worth it in school

literal gobbledygook fudder
your mom is full of security holes because her API got injected with malicious bytecode by a black hat hacker and the payload achieved persistence by overwriting DNA in her egg cells, forcing a child process non-native to her operating environment to be spawned (idk where i'm going with this but yeah sorry to hear your mom got blacked)

Imagine getting a kindle when you can literally get the Kindle app for your phone.

If you're THAT pressed for eInk (which sucks until they fix the flashing display refresh [so will ALWAYS fucking suck]) you can get a cheap (~$40-60) Chink clone that is the size of your phone to magnet back to your phone and flip to instead of doomscrolling.

So. You think that by reinforcing price gouging with purchase, the price gouging will stop?

> instead turned it in to be crushed and melted
Leaving no backup when the current fails?
And leaving no choice but to either pay the price gouge or suffer?

>harvested for precious metals and remade
It wouldn't be quite so bad if that condition was actually true. But the majority isn't worth the effort of bothering. Most of the time it's lucky to be even crushed...
