oh wow i posted at a really shitty timing, can anyone answer? >>100049961
>>100049979I'm too tired to read into that ifi meme but basically some headphones need more power to produce the sound they're meant to produce without distortion and it's self explanatory that having headroom is better. Doesn't mean you should use an amp where you have the volume knob at 9 o'clock before it becomes too loud, but you also don't want one where you're cranking the knob to 90% volume just to get to actual listening levels.
>>100049958kill yourself
since valve is apparently never gonna make it, is there anything like this at all? I'll even take some pointers on where to get started trying to DIY it if that's the only way I'm gonna get off ear headphones
>>100049979If you hear no hiss then you aren't losing anything.
>>100050039Index headphone mod?
>>100050017i'm using a cheap ass usb dac/amp and yet it claims i have TOO MUCH power for the majority of the headphones i checked using the calculator, that's the weird part of me. i don't want to keep my volume down to such a level i'm losing sound quality to not damage my earshope it makes more sense now>>100050042not hearing any hiss at all. it's the paragraph about losing 2bits that got my riled up (is that even a big loss?)
>>100050039Raal sr1a, akg k1000, mysphere. Or just mod porta pros.
>>100049979>>100050017i dont know what any of this pseudbabble means>>100050060link the shitty website so i can laugh at you
>>100050060>TOO MUCH powerNo such thing. Although a better amp could also provide better sound quality at lower levels, but a better amp will just be better in general, so don't sweat it.
>>100050086Post setup so I can laugh at you.
looking for some non IEM earbuds, for commuting/outdoor stuff. tried a few IEM's and i find them really uncomfortablenot looking for something particularly good, more for comfort and easy to quickly take out
>>100050086here's the calculatorhttps://ifi-audio.com/home-2/headphone-calculator/i'm using ifi uno, try something like dan clark audio aeon and you will be in the red
>>100050118>looking for some non IEM earbudsLook elsewhere.
>>100050060Max power of an amp doesn't mean anything. There are amps that can boil a kettle with the cleanest sine waves imaginable. And there are weak ass amps that will always hiss. The root issue is the absolute noise floor but it's difficult to present in a useful way.
>>100050071>Or just mod porta pros.that looks pretty doable, thanks
>>100050164Keep in mind you will lose all bass. This is the nature of the beast, headphones need a full seal for bass.
>>100050110jbl go 2 with eq by ear and thinkpad x41 onboard audiorainbow 9 inch dragon dildoar1522 inch crt>>100050141ok but that headphone isnt particularly demanding and with -10dB preamp on hd650 youre at only 104dBi dont get that 2 bit thing anywhere on the site either
>>100050267the 2bit thing is when you press on the iematch thing down below, here's the link anyway:https://ifi-audio.com/products/iematch/the problem it isn't just the aeon it's almost and headphone i tried. and the one i'm getting hd600 was only 1db away from the cutoff
>>100050349The 2 bits number comes from converting dynamic range to bits. 6dB = 1 bit and it attenuates the sound by 12dB. But if you hear no hiss you aren't getting those 2 bits.
>>100050401i don't understand all the technical terms. bottom line no hiss = no audio quality loss? the only thing that matters to me is not fucking shit upalmost every headphone i tested was in red, don't get it
>>100050434Says right there>Do your earphones suffer from irritating hiss and pop? If not then don't buy it.
>>100050464look at the section i highlighted in>>100049961 (it's at the bottom of the second link i sent you)the argument that is made is that you can use the "proper" volume for some headphones without damging your hearing because it would be too strong, so you need to lower the volume to a level where you lose sound qualitynow if the lost sound quality comes if the form of the hisses you mentioned i'm just being retarded and wasting everyone's time but it seems these two phenomena (hissing and lost sound quality) aren't necessarily connected to each other
I have large head and after few days my headphones look like this. Usually headphones breaking easily. It seems this no exception. What headphones should I buy flip they served me longer?
>>100050118They have zero (0) isolation, so you will be having a hard time hearing shit outside.
I haven't been in here in such a long time. Are snapheisers still an ongoing thing?
>>100050401so it just does -12dB output in software?
>>100051246No, the hiss from the amp stage is also reduced.
>>100051363how is that supposed to work
I've got around $2k and want a pair of comfy closed back headphones. Thinking of getting MDR-Z1Rs, any reason not to?
>>100051531By doing -12dB in hardware.
>>100051658>any reason not to?1) it's sony 2) it's DD 3) dca e3 exists

>>100052642it's over
>>100051658theyre shit and expensive
what's a single ended headphone and what's the difference compared to balanced?
>>100054886On a single ended headphone both drivers negative terminals are connected together and fed from a single source on the amp.On balanced headphones each driver has a separate positive and negative connection and the two negative connections are fed separately by the amp (assuming the amp has a true balanced architecture)

>>100055456Are more expensive planars generally better? I tried some cheaper ones and decided to just stick to dynamic driver headphones, since the planars just sounded kinda weak.
Is it true that planar headphones sound more like speakers? Can someone who tried planars describe to me the difference with regular headphones?
>>100059321Buy Aeon X closed/open and never look back
>>100059321No headphone sounds anything like speakers. It's just not how it works. Planars usually have better bass though.
Is there anything to look out when buying online to make sure the headphones won't be too tight? I live in a rural area there's not many stores around to try them before buying.

my old man pays for a spotify plan for the entire family but now i'm getting baby's first dac/amp and headphones i'm considering migrating to tidal. should i make that jump? the idea of paying for music triggers me to no end but i do want to enjoy better quality. decision mostly depends on how good the library and recommendations are
>>100072373you should get cancer i think
>>100072484OK but when I'm hospitalized with cancer and reflect on the time i wasted on Taiwanese cave drawing board what service should i listen to
>>100072373>TidalHot garbage, go with Amazon or Apple instead.
>>100072373If you don't want to pay for it then just pirate lossless music. There are rips that come with files that validate them as actually being lossless.
>>100072508frequency response graphs
>>100072373I have an RME ADI-2 and HD800. I don't think I would pass a proper blind A/B test between Spotify and Tidal for >80% of my library and neither would most audiophools.Unless Tidal uses an obviously different master for an album, it's pretty hard to tell them apart.
>>100072509what about qobuz? looking into that option as well
>>100070249Haven't heard them, but the fr looks ok enough, bass is very rolled off through. The measurements are taken from the original one but they're supposed to sound the same. Didn't like the Chifimans I've heard and Moondrop's offerings also don't seem than appealing, in this price range, dynamics are probably better value.
>>100072373Where I live Tidal has a better library than amazon music and Qobuz, the problem with Tidal is MQA but they are moving from it. Amazon Music was ok but the exclusive mode was shit. Qobuz mid software and much better exclusive mode than both tidal and amazon music, they also offered more info about the music itself which was a plus. Can't comment on apple and deezer.
Noob question, but I've been searching for an hour and can't find an answerI just ordered an Asgard 3 with a DAC module for sole use with my heaphonesI currently have a Xonar Essence sound card installed in the computerThe port on the back of the module looks like a printer cable connectionDo I plug the Asgard into a USB-C port in lieu of using my soundcard??What's the correct way of setting this up?
>>100075677Just sounds like a USB-B connector. You'd hook that up to whatever USB port on your PC. It should then see the asgard as an audio device and you can then set it so your audio goes through it.
>>100075736So skip my soundcard altogether?

After looking around I decided to go ahead and buy the HD560s(mainly for music, movies, games since I can just buy an audio cable with integrated boom mic).I found that with my phone and galaxy buds 2 I'm usually listening at 70-80 dB, so if I got that right my PC as the source should have no problems driving it to those levels and I have no need for a pricy amp/etc.?Would there be any reason/benefits to getting a $10 apple dongle or equivalent?
>>100076940Does your phone has a 3.5mm jack?
>>100077047The HD560s will be used for PC and was asking about the apple dongle for that, the phone isn't oart of my decision.I have buds for my phone already but yeah obviously I could use it for the phone too.
>>100077090just test out your headphones first, if you want to go louder, then consider a cheap dac/amp, but if you really only listen at 70-80 db, you should be fine

>>100049958someone got a solution on how to fix the headband on this othewise glorious piece of gear (avantone planar)?
>>100092825What you mean that little crack? Either glue it or 3D print a replacement piece (and sand it if you want it to look smooth).
>>100092878naah not the crack thats just the a plastic seam (no its not all out of steel).. the band is main band is way to inflexible and wobbly inside.. I thought about like putting some gel pads on the inside of the band like this .. anyone got ideas where to get something like that?
>>100092928Could do what that one anon did and get a headband made out of 3D printed TPU. Not sure if a model exists for the avantone in particular though.
>>100092939> 3D printed TPUow yes! good idea>exists for the avantonenah I think not, nothing exists for the avantone, way to niche
>>100092956If you have experience with CAD (or know someone that does) it shouldn't be too hard to whip up a model for a headband, especially since you have the actual headband to go off of.
>>100092966I think I contact a friend.. I just dont want look it like pic related .. making Id rather die than mod my planars into such an abominiation
>>100093004You could probably also just contact this seller and see if they'd make you a headband for the avantone. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1401186654/sennheiser-6x0-comfort-strap
>>100093050>https://www.etsy.com/listing/1401186654/sennheiser-6x0-comfort-strapthank you anon! you just made me happy
>>100092825not related but how is the avantone planar compare to hifiman and other planar in the same price range like edition xs, ollo s5x, etc. sound wise?
>>100093073vs edition xs its way more analytical, the planars are made as monitors first, but the bass is not what most would want (many would say its sounds flat in lowends, but I like it) ... I have not listened to the ollo s5x so I cant say but I guess its also more made for "fun" listening ..one thing about the avantone for me is unparallaled tho: the audio positioniong is in its own class of all headphones I ever heard .. for the price its hard to find better magnetic planars
>>100068195Thanks for the straight-forward answer. I got my kph30i's today. Definitely do not want to sleep with them in the case that I roll over them.
>>100093167i see, do you have any experience with audeze's headphones? is avantone planar really that similar to audeze's?
>>100093326>>100093326>do you have any experience with audeze's headphones?I sadly have not, that said the avantone planars are of often compared to the audeze LCD-X in neutral sound, pretty much the only two neutral sounding planars I know of .. just that the audeze cost $1500
>>100093432I see, thanks
The DT 770 pro X arrived
Are there any decent chink headphones for under $50?
>>100095989Superlux.I had one for 3 years before the plastic broke.Great audio quality for cheap.
>>100095989you can pay street whores to lick your ears while giving you handjob with half that money(ive done it)
>>100095989under $50 i think chink iems are better
>>100095867hf! I heard build quality is most excellent, report how you like the sound tho
>>100096110Compared to the non x 770 it feels much nicer to wear. Feels like I'm not wearing anything at all.As for sound, I can't fucking tell a difference.
>>100096128>Feels like I'm not wearing anything at all.nice>As for sound, I can't fucking tell a difference.then they delivered what they promised, seems to be a win
>>100096049*$60000
with some vouchers and a temporary discount, I can buy new he400se's for like equivalent to 45 dollars. Is a Moondrop Dawn Pro enough to run these? Or should I buy something else for a similar price?
>>100096040Yeah but will they do that 24/7 for years for a one-time payment of $25?
>>100092466>STAXless day 75A v2.9 (blu-tac mod)my dream https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/98642516/#98668150 is finally coming true finally.since i've found shitty buds (Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2) here, i can leave the qc[15, 25, 35] and the Benz pair there and bring only the buds back.there will no longer be casual, on-the-go audio for me and maybe that's for the best.
>>100097142its a better offer than having to listen to garbage headphone
Here's the deal. Currently my computer is several feet away from where I set, I run a fiio dac cabled across the floor to where I'm at but I have no microphone capability. Ideally I don't want to run a second cable across the floor for a separate to get mic functionality.
>>100098006and to add a question to this post, should I just get a good usb gaming headset (are there any?) or should I try to run something like that schitt dac and attach a separate mic to a regular headset
>>100049958Is that a Panasonic tau?
>>100098121No it's a SD trinitron.
Can anyone give me a few pointers to what headset to buy? I've finally gotten some money and I want to buy new audio stuff.Location: Brazil macaco;Budget: I don't have like a hard limit or idea, I'm looking for something that isn't expensive as fuck while still delivering a good quality;Intended use: Music, gaming, maybe mixing;Kind (open or closed, over-ear or on-ear): Closed back, over-ear;Preferred tonal balance (or genres you like): as flat as possible;Past headphones and your thoughts on them: just gaymer stuff;Source(s) (PC, interface, headphone amp, phone, ...): PC, but I'd buy an amp. Would also appreciate an amp recommendation to go with the headset.
>>100099428how much money you have brazil man
>>100099496maybe like 3k BRL
>>100099777DCA Aeon Closed X
>>100099884was gonna say that. but if you dont wanna use all that money, buy dt 770 pro x
>>100095867Should I get these? I used to use DT770 until the cable just exploded one day, ended up replacing it with a DT990 3 years ago to try out openback and while it's still working the earpads have half detached and the plastic tabs literally crumbled to dust for some reason. I also want to go back to closed back for the better noise isolation.
>>100100044They should be just like DT770 but with better every so go for them if you like DT770
>>100101611*better everything
