>>100088079i heard rumblings of that but i thought it turned out just to be kind of severe unit variance coupled with people being freaked by them using multiple colors of plastic for a plastic piece inside the shell. mine came from the kickstarter and sounds quite nice to my ear (with the red nozzle). i never measured it but i could do that now if anyone actually cares to have another data point on it

Finally got around to modding and measuring the Origins with some front vent modding. The blocked measurement uses a piece of high density foam shoved into the front vent. The same effect occurs when I used a band-aid piece and covered it, and tape will probably have similar results. The 500 mesh one is also similar in effect, but to a lesser degree as seen with the more rolled-off subbass, as expected with a more porous membrane. Both of these are way too muddy and make the Origins significantly worse. Would not recommend. Distortion profiles look mostly similar to the unmodded ones, perhaps with a bit more bass distortion. Also had a hard time determining where to normalize the curves. In the end I took a purely perceptual approach and decided based on how I perceived them. Much higher bass content and also muted highs.
>>100091874Soundpeats free2 classic are decent too, and have water resistance unlike the moondrop if that matters to you
>>100089632Sounds over 85 decibels give you tinnitus, the easy trick is to just not crank your IEM's to nigger car speakers at 2am levels
Now this is where it gets interesting. The following use different mesh densities. For those that don't know, the higher the number, the more dense they are. Both the 200 and 300 mesh filters provide a subtle bass and low mid boost while still retaining the original midrange and treble quality. The 200 mesh filter is a very subtle, but pleasant shift. The added bass and low mids provide a more relaxed sound signature, but is still bright leaning. I would recommend this is all that's needed was a slight bass boost. The 300 mesh is the one that changes the sound the most without being bad like the 500 mesh one. The boost under 1khz is quite noticeable, and bass is much better with the added volume. One of my main nitpicks with the Origins is that the bass is good, but lacks volume on certain tracks, so having a small boost like this does help. However, it does now sound a bit muddy on other tracks.Overall I think the 200 mesh filter mod is the best option if what you need is a bit more bass. The 300 mesh filter is good if you want a much more relaxed and non-bright leaning sound signature.Me? I'll probably stick with the 200 filter, or just use EQ. If there are mods any of you want me to check out and measure, lmk and I'll see if I have a pos you have.
>>100092026>moondrop space travelabsolute crap.
>>100092508based modder, measurer, and tanch enjoyer. the 200 and 300 mod look nice.
>>100092508Have you messed with the rear vent at all?
>>100092741Yeah, finally had time to sit down and thoroughly experiment. Definitely nice, but the 200 is really, really subtle to the point where I think I won't use it. 300 takes away the magic.>>100092810I tried using different materials, like the foam off of some foam tips, as well as high density foam. The vent is in a small recess, kind of like their 2 pin socket. I measured and there wasn't anything significant, but it might just be improper blockage. I'll try again right now.
I can only differentiate bass, i can't differentiate changes between mids and treble or maybe I do, I just don't know if they're what to listen for. I bought one of those cheap KZ and it's been fine. It seems good because there's not overpowering bass, I disgustingly hate extreme bass, because it just overpowers other instruments.
>>100092897you sound like the average harman target enjoyer, no shame in not being able to hear issues with mids/highs
>>100092810>>100092867Here's what I got. Took a tiny piece of tissue, compressed it, and put it in the back vent. Very little differences, all <1dB.
>>100091874I'm waiting for $30 Engine 4s to arrive from Ali. They were hyped to hell on $60 release and I have some expectations how they will sound compared to my XM5s. Coaxial 2DD and ldac but no anc or ambient sound.
>>100092867>300 takes away the magic.Yeah I can understand that from modding my own sets like EA1000. There is a place for keeping that crispy, cleaner, less-bassy signature to really highlight the mids. Details straight to the dome
>>100092945My calibration settings were fucked up, with the proper calibration the differences are even more minor. My guess is that since the back vent is recessed, I'm only blocking a portion of the volume and not sealing it completely shut. Don't want to risk having something stuck in there. If anyone's got more balls, then go ahead.>>100092990Exactly, and some genres just excel with this sound signature. I kind of get why everyone that listens to weeb j-pop and similar stuff gush about the Origins, the extra bass in the mix lends itself well to the Origins sometimes lackluster bass quantity. And, the heckin details make me horny.
Hello everyone. I've got some truthear zero red. I mostly listen to kpop. Now I have some questions:>Would you pair them with a Moondrop Dawn pro?>Would you bother buying a usb adapter or just buy a brand new Bluetooth IEMs such as the moondrop spacetravel?

>>100093653Isnt the dawn pro cheap as well, my dear nigger?
>>100093815it's 50 bucks, if you're scrounging around with cringicle trash get a cheaper dongle or even an apple dongle since it'll fall apart in a week just like your iems
>>100093639>Would you pair them with a Moondrop Dawn pro?ask yourself why you need.>>100093808first thing, check if seal is good and if you have proper bassthen, you choose tips based on what you want to improve in terms of fit. stickier texture for more grip if they tend to fall out after some time, novel textures/shapes for pressure relief, different tip lengths for deeper or shallower insertion depth, etc.
>>100093808You literally "need" 3 different eartips: with regular, narrow and wide bore that would do noticeable changes to the sound. Everything else is just about fit, material/skin irritation, stickiness to your ear etc.Maaaaybe something extra like epro horn shaped eartips could be 4th option but they are just slight twist on wide bores.

>>100087868Ok bros I can definitely recommend these tips, Azla SednaEarfitLight Short size SS (left). The main advantage is the tiny size, I can't feel it too much in there. The sound is fine. The included tips size S (middle) are ok, I think they're just black colored kbear 07. The Tri Clarion size S (right) is not acceptable. The hole is so big, it actually stretches out the ear canal.Probably the best thing about SednaEarfitLight is that it comes in 10 sizes and I need that SS and the short variety which is 1mm shorter. They were cheaper on Amazon than aliexpress for me.
>>100107001are the tips sticky and form proper seal? every time i laugh most tips ive used just falls out of my ear canals and its really annoying to get them to refit
>>100107317No these ones are non-stick silicone. Do your iems go in really deep? I'm not sure, but it's the deep ones that want to get pushed out maybe.Do your tips feel really tight? That may cause more pressure that pushes them out. I like tips that are smaller therefore low-pressure.

>>100105900>>100105924As lil' bro said, the artifacts of resampling from 44.1kHz to 48kHz should be inaudible, and indeed when using any half-decent resampler (including the default Foobar resampler, the SoX resampler, and the resampler that libopus runs by default), you can't hear the difference on A/B tests. The SoX resampler is the current highest quality one (though you wouldn't be able to hear the difference with the others anyway), so you can first resample the lossless track with SoX, and then encode to OPUS (it won't resample if it detects that the file is already 48kHz).
lol just use flac1tb SD cards are cheap these days
>>100107896Lol just use Opus, no difference in audio quality + 1/10th the file size. >>100107953Not the dude you're talking to but wtf is retranscoding? Google doesn't even recognize it as a word.
>>100107991like transcoding an already lossy encode. just a term i made up, thought it was clear but i guess not anyway it really doesn't matter, modern compression codecs are excellent and transcoding opus 160k a couple of times probably won't be audible

Detailing & stereopanorama & localization is simply the absence of extra impulse & inertia of driver when trying to reproduce the desired frequency. 100Hz should ideally have a 1000/100=10ms impulse, 1000Hz 1000/1000=1ms, etc. the longer the impulse/waterfall, the worse the detailing, localization and stereopanorama.

>>100104646>>100104693Speakers not just make everything sound in front of you but they also magnify any difference between left and right channels, you can pinpoint even the tiniest shifts in panning. Completely different from IEMs, you lose microdetails but gain spatial details. Headphones on the other hand just straight up lose information for no benefit. This is why IEM/speaker combo is unbeatable.
My take on some popular liquid silicone tips: 1. Xelastecs - basically your mini CIEM tips. As you can see - eventually they deform to exactly accomodate to your earussy. Con is them being too sticky, so constant maintenance and cleaning are a must, because if there is a any dirt - it will stick. At first they may not fit very well, but the more you use them - the better they get, long listening sessions are possible without fatigue. The sound signature is closer to neutral with a slight emphasis on bass. Recommended.2. Softears UC - love-hate relationship, but mostly hate. If they fit - they are great, truely neutral sound signature. But it depends on the temperature, degree of skin moisture and phase of the moon. Unlike Xelastecs, they are really thin and can fold inside your ear collapsing the bass response, so on some days they are plug and play, on the others I just can't get them to work. Slightly less sticky as well, but somehow play out bad for long sessions because after 2-3 hours it gets sweaty, they slide out and then it is troublesome to get them back in properly. Can't recommend them in good faith. 3. Azla Crystal (TWS) - How long do you want your tip stem? NO. These are good. The sound signature is V - you get the most of the bass and a lot of treble clarity. In other cases (Type E) you have to sacrifice upper treble for the bass, but it is not the case here as you get both. Technically you do get a deep fit without doing a deep fit. Silicone is ever so slightly sticky so barely any shit sticks on, but you still get the benefit of sealing power of the liquid silicone. Good for long listening sessions. Recommended.P.S. Chuzo Choice™ H570 are ordered and on the way.
what the fuck is the difference between a 100 dollaridoos mp3 player and a 500 dollaridoos one? they both claim to play 24 bit flacs, so what the fuck exactly?
>>100112915Depends on the player. Players >$300 usually come with android and a SD660/665 so you can use automation tools to sync configs/libraries in a more convenient way over your home network. They also might have better performance or higher end audio circuitry but only measurements can confirm that beyond firsthand accounts of hiss.

>>100115503nitpicks because what else even offers you that option of going out and still having music in good quality?
>>100115503the only logic I see in kilopos is to make them custom-molded for your ear canals and use them for monitoring on stage as a musician or some other professional, but even then people pick local in-house manufacturers no one know about or brands like ultimate ears over subtonic storm or thiefaudio prestige ltdI'm not a fan of TWShit mainly because many of them are throwaways that will be unusable after ten years or so, you won't even be able to fix them ang give them to your children or grandchildren or sell it, except for very few models that are viable for long-term use, but there's one thing that keeps attracting me to TWShits, active noise cancelling and ambient sound (I consider both two sides of the same feature)
>>100115555Why not? I suspect it will just be a collaboration with some chinese phone maker. A chink phone with a decent quality DAC and 3.5mm (maybe balanced as well). Sounds like a nice quirky phone.

>>100115555>just a DAP with a full screenif there's an earpiece and a mic where they should be, I don't have any problem calling it a phone, but there once were phones which required external earphone with mic to work as such, so if coomdrop pulls something like this I won't call it a full-fledged phone
>>100115528technically you're right, there might be a shitty dac/amp on the 3.5mm output and better dac/amp on the USB-C analog output, but are there even any modern phones with analog USB-C output?

>>100115572TWS, it also offers you more convenience with ambient and anc wired stuff doesn't have. Expensive setup doesn't offer anything other than more costly risk of breaking. You still lose good several% of audio quality because of external factors in busy city.
>>100115503You're a minority alright.>>100116357I tried TWS and didn't understand the "convenience". ANC shits itself from wind /running/riding. Transparency is not good enough to talk to people, have to put one earpiece into the case. And the industry standard 6h of battery life is simply not enough for me. I won't even mention connection dropouts and pairing fails, which I understand are hardware/OS/enviroment dependent, but I did have them. With wired IEMs you just plug them in and they just work.
How do I measure the voltage output of an amp? I got some cheap aliexpress multimeter but I have doubts that it will work properly because audio is not DC.
>>100116732Multimeters usually have AC mode. Then you just play a 50/60Hz wave in tone generator. I would be more worried about the accuracy of that multimeter at the audio voltages.
>>100116732The best way is to get an oscilloscope. If your amp has a known maximum voltage (mostly applies to dongle dacs which usually max out at 4Vrms balanced out), you can leave it on max and use software volume control and calculate the voltage that way. -6dB is 50% of the voltage.
