Also fastfetch is gay, because it can't simply display one entry, e.g 'neofetch packages'.

That's my work server not my personal machine. When I set it up in 2020 I wanted to use Debian but I had issues with the Intel graphics driver not working on stable so I said fuck it and went with Ubuntu instead. I was under a lot of pressure to get it up and running fast. Even though it's at my work I ssh into it and use it like I own it. This is my personal server I use for hosting various things. Weak I know but it does everything I need it to do and is on a gbit line.

I don't know how to use Windows. My dad installed Ubuntu on our machines growing up. I build my own PCs now and just use Ubuntu. I am 30 and have never used anything else. I don't even use the terminal. I know how to install neofetch in it, but outside of that I have never touched the terminal. You do you, but I am happy with Ubuntu.
>>
>>100189005
I update once a week and do it before going to bed and even if I didn't it's not like the machine is unusable while updating. I only have this machine doing everything so it never restarts unless there is a new kernel or I change something in the kernel. Router and servers are running in VMs.

>>

Well the reason why I don't use dwl is that there is no reason for me to run Wayland since 90% of applications are running in X trough Wayland either way. If they ever make real HDR support in Wayland I will switch.

with evenglican wayland idiots this was supposedlty to be x's faul.. and wayland was the saviour.. had to test it

false, fake false and more false and fake

is nvidia all along. dwl didn't save it, hyprland didn't save it.. it's an nvidia issue. is better now but still terrible, I don't think I will ever again have an nvidia card in my main after this, they frankly belong in server halls at this point

you can't use this shit as a dailydriver....

I agree, nVidia is a fucking joke. I refuse to use them after all the retarded issues I've had to deal with at work with their """enterprise""" cards. With AMD the TearFree (or whatever it's called) option solved 99% of the tearing for me.
>>
>>100189238
talk to me after August when AMD releases a rehashed Radeon 7000 card as the 8000 card that performs exactly the same and the RTX 5080 and 5090 are released with GDDR7.

Ackshually, cheap displays offload tarcing onto the gpu. Get a Dell monitor. Samsung used to be good but recently they started to suck. Wacom tablets has it as well strangely enough.
Acer Nitro XV275K P3biipruzx
Samsung 49-Inch Odyssey G9 (I know I said samsung doesn't have it but the G8 and G9 still do)
Dell S3222DGM
Alienware AW3423DWF

Don't care, still not buying nVidia. I don't play a ton of games or use "AI" at all and only upgrade GPU every 7-10 years. Only reason I upgraded to a 6900XT was because I started using a 55" 4K TV as my main monitor so I wanted something capable of 4K.
>>100189334
Well seeing as how nVidia only cares about "AI" now this will probably never get fixed. And I'm surprised they haven't been sued by enterprise customers for how absolute shit their drivers are.

I regret reinstalling Artix last year, purely just because I hadn't reinstalled the base OS in a decade and thought it was something I should just get around to doing. I could've looked cool in front of a data mining thread on /g/ with a ~2013 init on my daily driver

would you mind explaining why?
>>
>>100188459
I used cinnamon for a while but switched to plasma because it's just comfier. Having a better file manager by default is nice and I also have to use the alt shift f12 hotkey to disable compositing constantly (proton doesn't get along well with multiple monitors in my experience)

Hello all
>>
>>100190111
Because one machine draws less power than 3. And my 5900X is powerful enough where there is no difference in me running 4 VMs (router, external services, internal services and a testing VM (all using one CCX)) and doing whatever desktop things like browsing, playing games or whatever. I could double the amount of VMs and it still just wouldn't care.
>>
>>100190329
Ah, thank you. I never thought about it this way. I have the exact same set up as you with a Crosshair VIII Dark Hero. I shouldn't be running 2 desktops, but, 1 wtg VMs for my jellyfin server, right?
>>

>>100191599

>>
>>100191532
>>100191619
Yeah, you should look into cpu pinning too. I'll spare you the googling and tell you that AMD Ryzen cpus have their cores numbered 0-11 and threads numbered 12-23 (this would be a 5900X)(you can see this with lstopo). Will help you use the correct L1-L3 caches for your core/thread pairs in QEMU/KVM. However if you're using a GPU for transcoding and you only have one GPU and it's not one of those enterprise ones with SR-IOV (though I think the Intel ones can do SR-IOV even if there is no official support) you're no longer gonna be able to do GPU transcoding.

>>100191695
Thank you very much this info. I have a little project cut out for me this weekend, now. Currently, my 5900x computer is used only for gaming and briefing, while I run my jellyfin server off of an older PC—Intel i7 6700K, 16GB RAM with a GTX980, running on LMDE. making the switch is worth it in terms of power consumption, at least, right?
>>
>>100191764
Wtf are you me? My last computer (turned router/VM host after I bought my new one) was an i7-6700K with an EVGA 980 SC and 16GB of RAM.
It depends really, should be since 5900X is more power efficient but because it has waaay more resources it might be +/- zero. It should be faster at doing it's job at least and if both your PCs where on 24/7 it'll cut out the power used by the second PC.
>>
>>100191856
lol I'm sure I'm not you. I have a retard problem. For instance, the 6700K computer running jellyfin is connected to a router WITHOUT internet access. it only has internet access when I need it to. I'm not sure how to configure that were I to embark on the setup we're discussing with the 5900x Computer. Essentially, I want only three host to have internet access, while the VM running jellyfin to NOT have internet access, but, still work as a meets server. Yes, I have two routers and one Does Not have internet access.

>>100191991
Just don't make a route for the interface.
Basically just use nmcli and make a network bridge, if you only have one network card that doesn't matter since it can act like the host OS network card while being a network bridge for your VMs. Here is my bridge for reference. Ignore all the slaves except for "bridge slave 1", the rest gets automatically created if you're using virt-manager.
