Hello people, looking for recommendations for cables, particularly for Etymotic. On my Moondrop blessing 2 dusks and 7hz timeless AE ive got a tripowin zonie cableOn my Sony IER-Z1R ive got a Kinera Ace 2.0 cableI like those soft braided style cables and was wondering who may make one for Etymotic? Got the stock cable on both my ER4SR and ER2XR currently but would like a nicer cable for them. Thanks in advance.
>>100196282the only ones that do Etymotic cables (ie mmcx + notch to stop rotation) in that manner are aliexpress store. Lunashop has a decent selection, they have a black 8core braided one. i don't think the connectors are going to be as slim as the stock cable from the looks of them

>>100200303The cable doesn't fall of the sides of my ear. Even when it's fresh like that, eventually the cable material stiffens and the cable gets a hook shape on its own, perfectly molded to my ears. Chin sliders on chink cables don't even work, they slide down on their own.
>>100200305>Pretty much impossible to fuck up distortion with 1DDDunu left the chat.
Recently I got distortion from a 4.4 cable. When I was testing in tone generator everything was fine, but in REW there was strong distortion. I reinstalled REW but it persisted. Then I noticed that in tone generator I was playing sound from both sides but in REW I was playing only one side. Chinaman short-circuited my balanced cable.

>>100200803Bluetooth audio hasn't fundamentally changed since 2006. All bluetooth audio codecs are implemented via A2DP so hypothetically we could make everything we have today in 2006. There's bluetooth LE audio but nobody has it yet and it has even worse bitrate.
>>100200705Bro get at least one good wired IEM first.
>>100200943Like what?
>>100200879Correct me if I'm wrong - technically everything you play below codec kbps threshold shouldn't be affected by compression? Stuff like battery, dropped connections and latency aside, sound reproduction shouldn't be affected with BT. All that is left is driver quality and tuning. LDAC 990 should allow to play flacs without drop in quality.
>>100200984Even wankers btfo all of them. Hype 4 for endgame.

>>1002010411) audio files are first decompressed, then passed to the OS mixer, then recompressed by bluetooth. You get both the file codec artifacts AND bluetooth artifacts. This is also why the "iphone can play AAC losslessly" meme is just that, a meme.2) bluetooth codecs are much worse than file codecs at the same bitrate. LDAC 990 should be equivalent to 256 MP3 which should be fine for most people, but everything below that can't even play a sine sweep properly. Why doesn't bluetooth just use ogg is beyond me.3) FLAC is lossless so its real bitrate is at least 1440kbps, but LDAC should play it acceptably. Bluetooth 2.0(released in 2005) has 3mbps bandwidth. You literally could have that quality in 2005, but "battery, dropped connections and latency" remain problematic to this day.
>>100201052I see graphs which tells me more than actual listening. Microphones are better than ears.
>>100200705A lot of esoteric memes there, mojo is just fucking kek. I fell for that one too though I have the excuse of buying it like 5 years ago instead of last year.

>>100201203If they run on the phone and not on the buds then they literally can't do anything to mitigate the artifacts. They can only make more of them.

But the Zero 2 stock cable is already damaged it seems, sometimes it seems like I do not hear the center, that is, there's no bass and everythings sounds a bit reverb-ish. Seems to be a defective contact.
I'm thinking of getting a cheap pair of bluetooth iems because of how shitty the pmp market is, and most phones not having headphone jacks now, how are the moondrop space travel?
>>100203572Hands down the best value.
Promised a size comparison pic, so here you go. The thickness of the main body is slightly thinner than the thickest part, which is at the mmcx connection. Nozzle angle is also much more forward, which results in a deeper fit on top of the already small footprint. Using long and/or larger tips works best in my experience.
Is Poweramp worth paying for?
>>100204157Here's the final measurement. The original already has a nice 1.5khz dip, so I made it similar to that. EQ was used, 2 filters (one for reducing midbass, the other for fixing a 5khz peak).

Today I found out it's actually easier to hear for peaks and EQ at quieter volumes than it is at regular listening volume. Really wish I learned this sooner.
>>100212887Thanks
>>100213280That's obvious, but your normal hearing has peaks too, and you'll lose a sense of soundstage if you EQ them all away. Everyone is different, but at least having a big dip at 10K seems to make iems sound "natural" and smooth in the treble as opposed to sibilant.

>>100217834something cheap like Chu 2, in my case precisely Chu 2
>>100220680>huge nozzlebros, we have to be more precise when talking about these things. just saying that the nozzle is too big leads to misconceptions about how iems fit humans.the reason why the truthear zeros are so polarizing is because of the overall design of the body. the huge nozzles coupled with the long nozzle makes for an insecure fit that only relies on the nozzle-canal coupling for fit security. this is made worse by the rather large faceplate that makes contact with the concha. while this somewhat helps with fit security, it does create hot pressure points that can become uncomfortable, and for some people, the faceplate can also be completely out of the concha, at which point the weight and lackluster nozzle-canal coupling becomes horrible.
>>100218502I have the moondrops, among other wired stuff, i have not even installed the app, they work fine and anc/transpareny mode can be turned on/off too. Im guessing the app is only useful if you want to EQ, which to me is useless as they sound fine out of the box. Qcy t13anc would be a nice option too from what I see online. Impressions on this set. Measurements and size comparisons here >>100210053 >>100204157The modifications done: added a front vent to reduce bass and prevent driver flex, added low density foam in the nozzle to reduce harsh mids. This makes for an okay-ish sounding set that is typical early chifi; peaky mids and tons of bass bloat, not much of note. With very minimal EQ (two filters, one to further reduce bass bloat, and the other to tame the 5.5khz peak), this becomes a very enjoyable set. As expected, where this falls short is treble, but it's not something I hold against it for obvious reasons. With all of these tweaks, this essentially becomes a very excellent sounding and comfortable lightweight set, and one that I would place quite high in my collection. With further treble refinement I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes my most used set. Most of this praise boils down to the comfort this has managed to achieve with its tiny footprint and ergonomic form factor, from the body all the way to the nozzle. Funny thing is, the eartips I'm using with it cost more than the set + cable.
>>100222002The FR without EQ already had a nice 1.5khz dip that is not typical with these IEMs. In this case, it is explained by the distortion profile, where the rise at 3khz and 5.5khz are due to distortion. Therefore, I chose to simply tune the IEM to the 10dB delta target with EQ. Of course, this target is rig-specific, so this is a very rough approximation, but this does result in a nice sounding set. Comparing with other 10dB delta targets yield similar levels of adherence.
>>100222079Finally, here is the comparison between the stock and final FR. This was mainly a small experiment to see just how cheap can a set go before sacrificing important aspects like sound quality, comfort, build quality, etc. While build quality here is obviously not great, comfort is surprisingly excellent compared to more bulky and heavy sets. Sound quality is also mediocre, but can become quite competent after a few tweaks while still having great distortion performance. This has probably been going on for too long now, but all of this to say, there's no need to spend a lot of money to get excellent sound quality. Just get whatever fits your budget and needs, and if there are compromises that you can fix, go for it.

>>100222390needless to say soundstage depth and width absolutely are dependent on how far the speaker is from your ear. Openbacks will always have “better” soundstage based on the fact that they’re further away, but yes absolutely FR affects soundstage and positioning queues
>>100222594there are tricks by pos manufacturers to widen the soundstage, one of them is to make the chamber behind the driver bigger, snoy made a tubular structure in Z1R for that purpose, while pos without acoustic chambers such as full-BA use tonality to open up the soundstage
>>100222594>Openbacks will always have “better” soundstage based on the fact that they’re further awayextremely common misconception on how "soundstage" is perceived. there are somewhat reasonable explanations as to why headphones have seemingly better soundstage; this reason is not one of them.>>100222678back volume is used for tuning purposes, not for soundstage. the back volume on the Z1R is most probably intended for the bass boost.
