>turns out filing complaints with your boss can result in your own nation state hacking your phone
Things are really, really bad in much of the West. When WWII started, Churchill spent two years kicking incompetent officers out of the British forces, according to his own memoirs. In my work, I see a similar problem in my own country: to get the top jobs in the bureaucracy, state owned or controlled enterprises, the judiciary and the military, you have to swear fealty to the social democratic party in power. Competence is far less important in getting the job.

After the failure in 2014, Zelensky has been continuosly kicking the corrupt out of the military. Were the neo-sovietic empire to attack Western Europe, it would collapse in a few days without US assistance. The incompetent leaders spend more effort on staying in power and position than doing the job they were set to do, including illegal surveillance. Things are really grim.

>More logic puzzles!
Here's another one: You are given a container with 100 balls; n of them are red, and 100-n are green, where n is chosen uniformly at random in [0, 100]. You take a random ball out of the container--it's red--and discard it. The next ball you pick (out of the 99 remaining) is:
* More likely to be red
* More likely to be green
* Equally likely
* Don't know
Bonus points if you can specify the exact probability of what happens next.

Lots of other countries are operating with especiality. Iran has bombed targets inside Pakistand, and also vice versa. Pakistan has openly declared they have nuclear bombs, Iran is not far behind. So what happens if Pakistan drives a bomb on a lorry to Teheran and sets it off? Iran will think it was a gift from Israel, and then the entire Middle East is in total war. Israel has an estimated 150 nuclear warheads and this is where we will see.
As the Middle East sinks into radioactive glass, China will find the stars are right for a venture to Taiwan. The straight is supposedly full of atomic anti ship mines, so this will be interesting. With the US fighting on 2 hot fronts, is when Europe will be invaded.

Should I use DoH in my I2P+outproxy Mullvad browser to avoid DNS leaks on clearnet sites? When I use a browser testing website to check for DNS leaks, it shows the outproxy's DNS servers alongside my own DNS (I configured system tor to take DNS requests, but re-testing with TorDNS disabled shows my real ISP and IP address).
If I enable DoH, will my secure DNS provider see the domains of eepsites I visit? How can I check this?
>>
>>100263524
Enabling DNS over HTTPS (DoH) in your browser when accessing clearnet sites through I2P's outproxy can help prevent DNS leaks by encrypting your DNS queries and sending them directly to your chosen DoH provider, bypassing any local DNS servers that could potentially leak your real IP address. While DoH won't expose the domains of eepsites (I2P sites) you visit to your DoH provider, it will reveal the clearnet sites you access through the outproxy. You can verify if DoH is working correctly and preventing DNS leaks by using online DNS leak test tools, which should show only your configured DoH provider's servers and no other DNS servers. However, DoH alone does not provide complete anonymity or hide your IP address from the DoH provider, so you may want to consider using additional privacy tools like a VPN or Tor for stronger protections.

how are you supposed to find the probability without a value for 'n". 100-(n-1). I don't know where to go from there.
>>
>>100264138
Bayes theorem with summation of all possible probabilities (protip: there's 101 possible states).
>>
>>100263391
It's 50/50, either it happens or it doesn't.
>>
>>100264173
P(X|Y)=P(X)P(Y|X)P(Y)
I don't even know where to start with that haha. I should really get some math education.
>>
>>100263391
It's more likely to be green.

You can probably demonstrate it using the equation for a Hypergeometric Probability Distribution (pic related), where

N=100 is the population size,
K=unknown is the number of success states in the population,
n=1 is the number of draws (i.e. quantity drawn in each trial),
k is the number of observed successes,
( a b ) is a binomial coefficient.

but I'm too dumb to do it.

Yes, I saw that. However the dead thread didn't have the butt hair video. This isn't the skirmish I've witnessed for /cyb/ thread superemacy. You may recall I made a similar mempic for the last battle which was a few years ago, iirc. I was going to use a 'battelbots' image for this edit, but decided to stick with tradition and use the Rock'em Sock'em robots image instead. In any case, it's nice to know our thread has such a devoted OP(s). Fun Fact: I analyze the OP pic you (guys) post in an effort to figure out what visual style you prefer, so I can try to make OP pics you (guys) like and are likely to use. I believe the are two OPs because I've noticed one of (you) prefers using simpler, more traditional OP pics, using the same two or three pics, over and over, while the other likes to use a wider variety of the pics. Of course, I have no way of knowing this with certainty, but that's the impression I get. If you have a preference, let me know, as I enjoy making them. In any case, I appreciate you (guys) keeping these threads going, execpt for that last week in October of last year, when I had some spooky memes and music ready, and no thread appeared.

It's a 2/3 chance your next draw is red given your first draw was red. You need to use summation for all 101 possible states.
https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=%281%2F101%29*Sum%5B%28n%2F100%29*%28%28n-1%29%2F99%29%2C%7Bn%2C0%2C100%7D%5D%2F0.5
>>
>>100264642
But doesn't removing a red ball increase the chance of the next ball being green? (Whatever the starting probability) Or maybe I misunderstood the question.
>>
>>100264751
The fact that you're holding a red ball implies it's more likely that it came from a container with more red balls than green balls. This is the whole point of Bayes, the probability of something happening is updated by the probability of a prior event.
>>
>>100264814
Yes your solution is probably correct. I misunderstood the question. Exercise was asking about the total probability of finding a red ball on the next draw, not how that probability changed between one draw and the other.

then why does everyone go crazy over this book saying it's the defining work of cyberpunk culture?
>>
>>100269676
Because it more or less codified cyberpunk into an actual genre
A shitload of stuff in Neuromancer became instant staples of mid/late 80s scifi because hundreds of other writers were chasing its success and riffing on its ideas
>>
>>100269783
This. It may have been good at the time, but nowadays many other works have executed it and done it far better than Neuromancer ever did. A product of its time you may say.

I've seen your shill posts for a while and I finally bit
Having read to the end of chapter 2, I would not call this comic a successor to Neuromancer in any sense
Sure, the art is fantastic (shame about her hands) and, yeah, okay, there's hacking and graffiti and shit
Other than that, though, it reminds me more of Atlas Shrugged, largely because it's such a transparent allegory for the author's personal experiences growing up in China, and her fantasies about the kind of fight she wishes she could have put up in the face of all that adversity
Then again I'd definitely recommend this over Atlas Shrugged for most audiences except maybe (ironically enough) thirsty fujos
I'll keep reading later and see if it changes my mind

PASTA TIME

I'll add to this and say check out this course:
https://academy.tcm-sec.com/p/practical-ethical-hacking-the-complete-course

You can also look into his associated certificate. It's basically a cheaper, and a bit more realistic exam than the OSCP in regards to conducting a pentest end to end. His certs are becoming more well-known in the industry. I work with people that got them.

I'm not a shiill. TCM helped me pass the OSCP back in the day.

Pro tip: When you do hackthebox, finish one, then watch how someone like ippsec did it to learn how someone better approaches the same target.

Stay away from MSP. Your cybersecurity career is over if you associate it with the rushed work those places do.

SSID, service set identifier. It’s basically the name of your network, that you should always name, because databases exist that contain the passwords for Android, iPhone, and portable hotspot devices, and these passwords are keyed to the default SSID.

Also, you should just connect to a hotspot yourself and see what that shows.
>>
>>100277110
>no. they say that in chrome and this applies to most other stuff. use a VPN always
Private mode isn't a complete solution to privacy, obviously, but it has several benefits such as not saving your browsing history or writing cache to disk, those are two features that help with my threat model of local proximity. VPN can help hide your traffic from ISP, and randomized FP can prevent sites from tracking you.

As a demonstration, here is how you can find the answer with a spreadsheet. I calculated the probabilities for each container, summed the probability of drawing two red balls, multiplied by the chance of getting any one of those containers, and divided by 1/2 since that's the initial probability of getting a red ball on the first draw.

Back in middle school I used to use a huawei phone with its stock os, I was already a bit privacy conscious back then, but "not enough", let's say, how worried should I be about that? My worst two uses of it were probably having a google account (which I often used with youtube), and browsing over clearnet, but at least with the lightning browser and with a searx instance. Still though, the underlying os/keyboard were still the stock ones, so who knows what they might have collected.

>TURN YOUR QUALCOMM PHONE OR MODEM INTO CELLULAR SNIFFER
https://hackaday.com/2024/04/30/turn-your-qualcomm-phone-or-modem-into-cellular-sniffer/
>It appears there’s a Qualcomm specific diagnostic port you can access over USB, that this software can make use of. The 5G capture support is currently situational, but 2G/3G/4G capabilities seem to be pretty stable. And there’s a good few devices in the “successfully tested” list – given the way this software functions, chances are, your device will work! Remember to report whether it does or doesn’t, of course. Also, the project is seriously rich on instructions – whether you’re using Linux or Windows, it appears you won’t be left alone debugging any problems you might encounter.

The contents is encrypted but there is enough information on the envelope to generate traffic analysis, and some of the comments also relate to that.

This topic has been discussed before by me and others, but it bears repeating. Music is a highly personal thing. As an example, the music that hackers listen to varies wildly from gen to gen and from region to region. West coast hackers' musical tastes often differ from the in the East coast, but there will be lots of overlap. Add to this the musical tastes of those from other countries, there again, there will be lots of overlap.

Julian Assange was a big fan of a band called, 'Midnight Oil':
Edward Snowen, a much younger man, collaborated with Jean-Michel Jarre, a celebrated French electronic music artist who is apparently a big fan of Snowden, got the famous whistleblower, who is apparently a big fan of electronic music, to feature on his new single, “Exit.” Great visuals btw:
Both of the men are true hackers & cyberpunks, but thier musical tastes are different, both generationally, and by style. Here in /cyb/, it's no different. Without question everyone's musical taste is different, but there will always be some overlap.
That's why we here at Deep /cyb/ Radio AM 404 - International, play a widest variety of music, in an effort to appeal to the widest /cyb/ family audience, regardless of age, or geographic location, and occasionally post some wild outside of the box music, just to keep things fun from my point of view. So, to summerise, cyberpunk's music is what past/current culture and YOU define it to be, although it is generally speaking, electronic in nature.
>inb4, Anon, you didn't answer my question
No, there is no playlist, there is only the personal tastes of the listener, and the cultural influences on musicians.

Threadly reminder that *genuine* cisco gear is vulnerabilty-riddled, backdoored garbage, and you should not use it in your personal or business networks if you can avoid it. That said, if you are learing networking, and come acoss any type Cisco gear, I would encourage you to tinker with iOS, it's proprietary operating system, as it is a good learning expereince. Their documentation is excellent, there are lots of great videos made by Cisco Certified admins on setups and configurations, and any experience you have with thier gear will look good on a resume. I have a few of thier wireless APs and a few ASA5505s that were fun to configure and laugh at, but I would never trust thier trash in any setting other than a home /sec/ lab, isolated from the outside world.

I'm a little over halfway through it, the writing is horrible and I rarely criticize writing. It's just confusing to read, often I think I missed something, go back and read the past few pages, but am just as confused. Then I keep reading and he explains what happens three paragraphs later, but it's not suspenseful or anything, just feels like you missed something.

Although yes, it basically did invent the cyberpunk vibe and a lot of the terminology.

The caveat of course is that I'm only about halfway through so who knows, maybe the ending makes it all worth it, but my opinion as of right now is just skip it.

There have been other anons who've posted some really nice great music here that have really low play counts because the artists produce music for it's own sake. /g/'s /dmp/ threads are a breading grounds for people like this and I have discovered fantastic artists and expanded my own musical vocabulary as a result. \x07 is the hex value for a utf character called "alarm". My computer doesn't have a font for it so it doesn't render. From some googling it seems like it used to be used to play an actual audio alarm, but no one uses it anymore.

The character appears right after the line with the # and EOF so I just looked for it and broke the loop when it found it.

Before I added that there was just a bunch of random gibberish afterwards from the part of the pic that had the instructions, I'm assuming.

This is a great idea. Every thread should have a term that we loosely discuss, while listening to Deep /cyb/ Radio AM 404 - International, /cyb/+/sec/'s favorite ethereal radio station, powered by cybd, the cyber radio daemon.
You started it with 'cypherpunk'. Julian Assange is a cypherpunk, and Eric Hughes wrote a 'cypherpunk manifesto' many years ago:

>cypherpunk
A cypherpunk is any individual advocating widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a route to social and political change. Originally communicating through the Cypherpunks electronic mailing list, informal groups aimed to achieve privacy and security through proactive use of cryptography. Cypherpunks have been engaged in an active movement since at least the late 1980s.

Cypherpunks encouraged civil disobedience, in particular, US law on the export of cryptography. Until 1997, cryptographic code was legally a munition and fell under ITAR, and the key length restrictions in the EAR was not removed until 2000.

In 1995 Adam Back wrote a version of the RSA algorithm for public-key cryptography in three lines of Perl and suggested people use it as an email signature file:Cypherpunks encouraged civil disobedience, in particular, US law on the export of cryptography.[citation needed] Until 1997, cryptographic code was legally a munition and fell under ITAR, and the key length restrictions in the EAR was not removed until 2000.[citation needed]

In 1995 Adam Back wrote a version of the RSA algorithm for public-key cryptography in three lines of Per and suggested people use it as an email signature file.

Vince Cate put up a web page that invited anyone to become an international arms trafficker; every time someone clicked on the form, an export-restricted item—originally PGP, later a copy of Back's program—would be mailed from a US server to one in Anguilla.

a simple xor based encryption, a password into a binary stream and xor it with the data stream, loop through the whole password, the longer the password the better then encryption
after that you can work on methods to generate a secure pseudorandom datastream from the password, this will make it even more secure, since reusing the same password over and over with a simple xor encryption can be easily broken by determining it's length and then xoring some encrypted data with another piece of encrypted data
then you could look into block-cypher encryption, such as AES, but never forget to chain the blocks otherwise a pattern in the data will emerge

I'm also adding compression right now, since this mainly works with text files there's no reason I couldn't get a high level of compression working to fit even more data in an image, plus compressed data would be harder to detect
I can then encrypt the compressed data stream, the trick would be trying to truncate the data, since there would always be some random data afterwards and I can't guarentee that any given byte value wont be present in the datastream
maybe a header that specifies the length? but how would I make that not super obvious for someone who wanted to check for this?

Take CS50 and at some point you will go out on your own and if you need help, look into replit 100 days of python, and look into beez's guide to python.

The best advice i can give you is try your best to cut down on instruction time and give more time to sitting down and practically doing something building and just messing around.

line 90, in <module>
pix_val[i][o] = ((pix_val[i][o] & 252) | (character & 3))

thought maybe the .txt file i was trying to use was to long but i received the same same error using a .txt file with only "test" in it.

Whats that error mean? I'm early on in my coding journey.

open the image in gimp, copy the layer onto a new layer, which automatically adds an alpha channel, export and then try again

that did fix it and i was able to encode. Verifying it was successful and receiving this message when trying to decode the image

ok I managed to make it work by removing the decode to utf-8 and switching to a write bytes instead of write, this allowed decompression, but the text file has invalid characters in it
upon opening the resulting file it reports having invalid characters, the first of which matches your error code
it should work now:

Increasing, I'd say:
>Russia plotting sabotage across Europe, intelligence agencies warn
https://archive.is/8PCdj
>Russia has already begun to more actively prepare covert bombings, arson attacks and damage to infrastructure on European soil, directly and via proxies, with little apparent concern about causing civilian fatalities, intelligence officials believe.
>While the Kremlin’s agents have a long history of such operations — and launched attacks sporadically in Europe in recent years — evidence is mounting of a more aggressive and concerted effort, according to assessments from three different European countries shared with the Financial Times.

Long story short: Putin is once again gambling on Western cowardice.

I used to think that is how things worked, but lately I read on 4ch things are in reality rather different. It is true that war forces a society to take on a purpose and that post war reconstruction brings a focus on tech degrees rather than business/law/feelgood degrees we now are inundated with.

The problem is who dies and who survives. People who are fit and those with a sense of duty will be called up, and many will die. Among the survivors you will find cowards, the unfit, politicians who to a large extent caused the war and overall misfits and people with connections that made it possible for them to evade their duty. So after the war you are left with an unfit generation of adults and a more hopeful generation that was too young to fit. And it does not help that people who fought and did theur duty are invariably badly treated after the wars.

>That doesn't seem physically possible.
Remember McNamara's morons? It is a waste of time and rsources to send idiots into the battlefield.
>Why would the weak not be eliminated first?
That was Sparta, but in modern era people look at logistics and resources. If you send idiots into battle you have to provide them with a weapon, uniform and spend a lot of resoucres to transport then, just to see them killed within hours for no measurable effect. The British nobility loved sending untrained working class people into the meat grinder, and Gen Haig is still reviled for this. And nobody have been able to demonstrate that he achieved anything at all by this waste of human lives.
And let us not forget the cowards who are able to bribe or run away. In the UK people were prosecuted decades after the end of WWII for not doing their duty, yet they all survived. And even in WWI people realised there was no point in even attempting sending wheelchair bound people or the mentally or physically handicapped into battle.
>War works just like a tournament arc in a Japanese anime.

i don't want to go to work tomorrow bros,
i'm tired of patching systems
i'm tired of getting tickets that the support/helpdesk team can solve
i'm tired of researching obscure vulnerabilities that won't get patched because the C-levels refuse to pay for new software and hardware
i'm tired, i'm exhausted, i want to cry

I'm considering cloud storage to adhere to the 3-2-1 backup Rule. And end-to-end, zero-knowledge encryption is the only way to go ensure privacy and prevent leaks. Problem is, how do we know for certain if end-to-end, zero-knowledge encryption provided by cloud-based storage providers are actually legit and they don't have some kind of backdoor access to it?

Has anyone tried pCloud, Mega, Nord etc? What's your take on their end-to-end, zero-knowledge encryption policy?

>Problem is, how do we know for certain
We can't, it's always a matter of trust. Some services look trustworthy, some parse your emails and sell you things.

I'm looking for a decently private virtual card service and was recommended Wise. They seem like just what I need, but it's a bit worrying that they're located in the UK. Anyone here got any experience with them?

The only reason was that she was already engaged. I knew early, but a dozen other guys were utterly crushed when it was official.

Yes, she was quite the unicorn, and her PhD was in solid state physics.
