I want to buy (chinkshit) cushions/pads to put on my custom 3D printed headphones. Haven't designed them yet, so I can pick whatever and base the design off that, though I'd prefer round rather than square or oval. What matters is they fit my freakishly big ears (67mm tall, 33mm wide, stick out at almost 90° angle, are uncomfortable when pushed back into my head).

I'll be scavenging the drivers from a crusty old pair of Pioneer DJ headphones, and will shove an FM radio receiver in there, so audio quality doesn't matter that much here.

Are the headphone-out ports on AV Receivers usually good or bad sources?

I recently bought a Yamaha RX-V4A to put on my desk to drive my speakers. I already have a JDS Atom for my cans but I was wondering how it compares to AV Receiver power on a data level.
>>
>>100330605
I own the TH900 (balanced cable mod Lawton Black Scorpion), and I will always recommend them without hesitation. I haven’t heard the TH808 but if it really does use the same drivers and 1.5 Tesla magnet array I would say it can’t be that much of a downgrade, if at all. ADX5000 is well-known to be good but I can’t offer any experience. TH900 is super dynamic, fast, with high-end bass being the notable features. Very pleasing sound eve though it will lose out in sound stage and macro-resolution. I note that prices have really gone up since mine were new.
>>
>>100336359
They can be very decent in fact, probably thanks to having real power supplies backing up the amp circuit.

psa that android will force your 44.1khz music to be resampled to 48khz. not something you'd want. get something like usb audio player pro or neutron to bypass this.

you're welcome.
>>
>>100338727
i dont know what resampling is nor why should i care
>>
>>100338761
you know how if you scale up an image from 640x480 to 800x600 it becomes blurry?

this is the equivalent for music, though less apparent. you want bitperfect playback, especially if you use an external dac.
>>
>>100338778
>this is the equivalent for music
In what way?
>>
>>100338727
Who are you talking to?
>>
>>100338935
losing the original data and getting an approximation.
>>
>>100338778
>>100338956
You're actually gaining data because DAC reconstruction filters are very simple and roll-off before 20kHz. Resampling in the OS avoids that problem and you get flat frequency response even beyond 20kHz.

Just did some testing with my Focal Clears.
Between the Yamaha RX-V4A's headphone amp and my Topping D10 + JDS Atom, I can say for 100% certain the bass hits a lot harder on the Yamaha. It is clearly a bigger, fuller sound if that makes sense.

Depends on if they use a dedicated headphone stage, or just slap a big fuckoff resistor between the speaker out and the headphone out.

>>100340533
Explained by high output impedance, just like HD600s gaining bass on OTL tube amps. Nothing to do with "having more power behind it"
>>
>>100340533
Yeah that basically means you want to get a 120 ohm adapter for them to use with the amp.

Just broke my 6th pair of cables for my HD 600s
Sick of them breaking all the god damn time. I really should stop dropping them off my desk but the chair pulls on the cables too often and sometimes I fail to catch them in time.
Now that I've esentially purchased another pair of the headphones for the same fucking cost as all these cables, I need to buy a new headset to prevent this from happening again.
What are some nice headphones that can suffer my abuse that are <$400.
I really loved the fostex I had several years back before I RMA'd them three times for breaking the headset because of their perma attached cables (took money back the last time instead of a replacement) . I'm pretty sure I'm the reason they made their headphones finally have detachable cables.

>>
>>100329371
Apart from being made by a different company the HD 490 Pro chassis is probably far more expensive to produce.
It's meant for professional use so it has to take a lot of abuse.

HD 620S is aimed at consumers who want better audio quality and will take better care of their expensive personal headset than some rando renting a studio for a day.
Sure it would be nice if it had a professional level build as well but then it would probably cost at least $600.
>>
>>100348632
>different company
>same name and logo
sounds weird
>>
>>100348805
It is weird, yes.
They recently sold their consumer branch to a Swiss hearing aid company.

sennheiser.com is the original company's website, now only selling professional audio equipment.
sennheiser-hearing.com is the sold off division's website.

I suspect the new owner will focus more on in-ears, since they're a hearing aid company and that's probably where they see most potential for growth (wireless in-ears are very popular now thanks to Apple).

Maybe one of the logo's will change in time, maybe they will even change the brand name.

Requesting advice:
I want to buy an AT ATH-R70x (recommended in the OP) but I've never used high impedance headphones before. This one has 470 ohms. I don't need a DAC, just an amp. Random googling gives me the Fiio A5 Portable Amplifier. My question is: can this amp connect to my laptop/smartphone/PS Vita/Nintendo 3DS via the 3.5mm jack and then to my headphones via another 3.5 mm? If not, any other amp you'd recommend?

Sorry for the noob question, I'm not a regular here on /hpg/ and this is the first time ever in my life that I'm actually considering an amplifier. Only reason I'm asking for just an amp without a DAC is because I know even less about DACs, so I'm not even going to bother.
>>
>>100352570

Closed back over ear.
Preferred tonal balance / genres: Mainly prog rock and hip hop, not too bass heavy though.
Past headphones: Only real good ones would be my current at home use ones the Sennheiser HD58X. Really like them, could be a bit more comfortable. Could sound slightly more "engaging" or V shaped.
Sources: Predominantly via bluetooth/Samsung S23.
Other requirements: Bluetooth (I know boo) Something that can hold up to sweat during exercise and is fairly sturdy.

hello audio autists, thinking of doing an apparent no-no, but wondering maybe things have changed in several years
not in a rush for now, but I'm thinking of getting replacement earpads for my senns, hd560s and maybe hd599
Once I bought genuine pads when I ripped the hd558 pads, but honestly the full price is for complete morons
NOW, if I'd choose the chinkshit pads, I imagine there can't be really any major differences in sound perception if I choose the velvet/velour pads, but the ability to choose intrigued me
cloth pads should probably have a longer longevity, but maybe rougher on the head, any experiences?
also interested in the cooling gel one, because it gets hot and sweaty in summer, but doubtful if it won't be very negative on sound
