I’m not an especially tech-savvy person, and only a few months ago I hadn’t even heard of private trackers. This general came up in my catalog from 4chan (presumably because I’d been getting setup advice for my Plex Server from /g/). This morning a 4k episode of the latest show I’m watching was awaiting me in my Plex library when I woke up; Jackett and Sonarr grabbed & managed it from my favourite private tracker, and none of this would have been possible without /ptg/! I would still be waiting for low-quality copies on public trackers, and manually duplicating them across my devices (as I felt obliged to seed them, but wanted them titled correctly for Plex) because the *arrs and hard linking was alien to me. It also fucked up all my filesystems and I had to wipe my OS and reinstall (Debian). Thankfully the other drives were fine but that was a big hit to lose that one drive in particular (if it had been a drive full of AB shit it would have been no big deal, and in fact I did lose 3TB of AB stuff that I will redownload once I'm stable on KamePT again).

I'm also tempted to get two more UPS, one for each NAS box and a real big fat one for my desktop PC.

Prior to getting the UPS a power outage knocked out THREE disks on my RAID6 NAS, which was fucking awful. 70TB on that thing. I was gearing up to replace the entire damn thing and rebooted it one last time and lo, one of the disks recovered somehow, and a rebuild on the other two disks (took fucking forever) saved my data. Real life we're so back moment. The minute a rebuild was on the table I rush ordered an UPS, it came damaged, and THEN I raced to best buy to get the second best thing they had in stock.

I've had other power outages before, probably a dozen actually, without incident. I must assume there's different kinds of power outages and some cause problems while others don't. Always used a surge protector but I do feel safer with an UPS even if it didn't work one time.

Also on the topic, I have a 9 year old installation of ubuntu server on an ext4 filesystem that has suffered literal hundreds of sudden power losses and has always booted up normally afterwards as if nothing happened with no corruption, so honestly I don't know how people lose data at rest from power losses unless it's a power surge that actually kills the hardware.

The NAS drives that got knocked out had issues mounting back into the raid (synology NAS system). The company apparently had a way to manually remote in and remount the drives but there was no remote tool and I was too anxious to call, so it was a blessing when one drive randomly decided to rejoin on its own.

The more recent drive loss seems to be a hardware failure, since formatting didn't work and I never could get it to properly read or write data even though it showed up as mounted and I could see some of the folders that were on the drive. Not sure exactly what the issue was but I've set it aside and replaced it.

I'm trying to resurrect a torrent. I've found two torrent, one has been stuck at 70% for months with 3 other leeches. The other one downloaded fine. However if I move the complete file to the incomplete's directory and run a recheck, there's 0% match between blocks. If I open both files in a hex editor, there are identical parts but looks like the two files are misaligned, and even then, there are matching pieces but the offset keeps increasing with random stuff between the matching parts. Is there any way I can resurrect the dead torrent? I thought about splitting the files into thousands of pieces and stitching them together somehow. I also tried WinMerge but to no avail.

Torrent was last seen complete in 2021.

You can cobble it together easily, maybe even with no code knowledge if you use a LLM. Just download a torrent file using RED's API, add it to your torrent client, monitor the progress using your torrent clients API, then when it's over run one of the many tools from the forum, like smoked salmon, to automatically transcode and upload. Why would I lie about that? Plenty of people do it. I haven't uploaded a single album manually, never filled a request etc.
