>>101198849I think this is a bait thread, but I'm going to chomp down on it anyway. Apple doesn't expect people to upgrade from the iPhone N to the iPhone N+1. That's why N to N+1 changes are relatively minor and incremental. (Changes from iOS M to M+1 tend to be more significant, but most iPhone owners get those for free so that's not much of an upgrade driver.) Mobile providers sell phones most commonly on two-year installment payment plans, meaning your iPhone N takes two years to pay off in full. After a year you're eligible for an expensive upgrade to N+1 (you still owe half the price of your N), and some people do that. But after TWO years you're essentially entitled to a "free" upgrade (as long as you're happy to keep your bill the same) to iPhone N+2. The difference between N and N+2 tends to be a lot more significant than N to N+1. So Apple has so far made money hand over fist selling phones that people want to upgrade to every OTHER year. Plus which there's the fact that the iPhone is approaching the state of being a finished product; all the big enhancements, like FaceID and the Neural Engine NPU, have already been done. Next we should expect to see more incremental improvements to the NPU and possibly more RAM (possibly a lot more RAM) for running LLMs and diffusion models on-device. Incremental changes.
