They still use 1980's technology in the year 2024. Are they based?
>>

Still based thobeit

>>split files into 50mb rar fles for redundancy
this is more like mental illness than anything else

> ftp, irc
it's all encrypted so it's not a problem. it's fast. it just werks.
> not a single zoomer
there are some zoomers but not very many. it's a problem as elder sceners age with fewer people to replace them.
>Are they based?
mostly.

Nah. Scenefags were always retarded. That shit was dumb 20 years ago when most sane people had moved on to torrents or DC++.
>>
>>101226299
20 years ago 99.9% of the content you found on torrent and DC hubs trickled down from FTP sites.
>>
>>101226461
How true is this today? Curious how much of the old scene is active still.
>>
>>101226472
still the same
>>

I am researching the history of piracy. Does The Scene even still exist? From my perspective most groups went p2p or are boutique crackers for the new hardcore DRM that have their own telegram.
>>
>>101226599
Yes. You can check a pre site like predb.me to see the amount of stuff released every minute.
>>
>>101226656
>predb.me
I am suprised how this is all still going via giant servers and ftp. I would assume the scene is much more decentral. I have so many Questions

How have they not been nuked by glowies yet? How large is this Network?
What kind of Crypto/Tools do they use?
How do they recruit People?
How are all the servers connected?
Who is behind PreDB?
Is there some kind of governance?

Would anyone share a screenshot of one of those ftps? Just to prove they exist?

I know the music scene lost its edge a long time ago and nowadays some private torrent sites have internal p2p groups to release movies and TV shows sourced from streaming sites. The ISO scene might be different, since cracking requires reverse engineering skills something the Average Joe cannot do by following some written guide. I'd guess the majority of software cracks and BluRay rips still come from the scene.

50mb autism exists only to have bragging rights you uploaded something 1st, there is no other sense to that. Scene are mostly more autistic private trackers game.

You cand find the answers to your quesions in books like How Music Got Free or Warez: The Infrastructure and and Aesthetics of Piracy or in an amateurish low budget TV show called Welcome to the Scene available on Youtube to get a general idea, and there are also plenty of news articles about scene busts (Operation Buccaneer, Fastlink, Site Down, etc. or the SPARKS busts just from a few years ago). Take everything with a grain of salt though, the accuracy of reporting on the scene usually is not very high. There's also this site called defacto2, there you can find a bunch of historical nfos.
>>
Miss the good old days of Scene exclusive Private Trackers, when Scene was king and P2P shit, now is the inverse.
And the fun Pre time wars

ScT, SCC, GFT miss them

Is there any Scene Private tracker left?
>>
>>101224669
>encrypted irc channels
why use irc at all? its was never good.
>>
"le scene" is a vanity project
>>
>>101224669
Scene releases nowadays are shit for anything. Maybe software here and there for some niche shit but P2P people are just way better and keeping up and their tools overwhelmingly clear anything that the scenetards create. Most scene groups straight up just steal P2P like in games and TV pres. Even P2P releases 0-day shit way faster such as Blurays and music. Its sad to see the state of those guys nowadays, only tough shit that remains is that in P2P if you want the real good shit then you HAVE to join a private tracker like HDB to see just how far ahead they are than scene, its not even close.
>>
>>101226578
Depends on the content. Scene encodes kinda suck ass.
>>
>>101226990
Yeah and and they suck. Scene is just not outputting enough content compared to p2p. Scene content gets upload to private trackers anyways. Some of the time even automatically.
>>
>>101227309
this

No one cares about a bunch of old white men rotting away in a couple of IRCs
They will just die and disappear, kids just use discord nowadays and upload everything there.
>>
>>101224669
Change out FTP with SFTP and use the LFTP client using the mirror+sftp subsystem and we're on the same page. Two cron jobs means you and I sync all our files back and forth automagically.
>>
>>101229151
After Microsoft buys Discord there will be some changes in the UI. It will look a lot more like MS Teams. I heard it will work almost the same way.
>>
>not a single Zoomer is part of your club
That's why they are dying. Whenever someone gets busted they are between like 35-60 years old lmao
>>
>>101229293

How does the whole network work? There's just way too many releases to host everything automatically..
>>
>>101229707
add your friends and dirs to your hosts files, they do the same. use comments to set IN or OUT, bandwidth, SSH port, etc...
>>
>>101229073
But which is the best Scene tracker nowadays?
>>
>>101226472
>How true is this today?
it's not
scene often steals from p2p even
>>
>>101227309
scene is good for porn, especially the 2160p kind because they release that automatically, where p2p guys do not bother
>>
>>101224669

scullman does not look too good, does he still laugh at times?
>>
>>101231458

What's with scenefags not releasing OF content? P2P dominates them in that category.
