In the Fediverse there is no concept of instance not answering to requests, instances do not stop hitting you when they receive 500 or 404, you just get bombarded by spam traffic coming from the rest of the -verse and there is no way to stop it, only change the domain, and presumably this is going to happen for as long as the Fediverse exists.
