worth it or a meme?
having to buy a Pixel feels bullshit
>>
Worth it if you barely use your phone. Battery life on Pixels is atrocious, GOS or not.
Personally, I can't see myself using anything else.
Privacy-wise, it is a modern phone so I wouldn't really believe claims of l33t h4x0rs saying it is the panacea of cyber security.

best os on meme hardware. Just get a cheap phone and flash lineage os
>>
>>101339418
Just stop being a schizo, buy a normal phone, log into your Google account and enable sync. It'll improve your quality of life. All this fretting over being spied on is pointless when you're carrying a tracking device around with you either way.

just buy an iPhone and don't update it, wait for another exploit that lets you install unsigned apps

The 16 will be out in 2-3 months and the 15 will drop massively in price

in that case yeah its good, Android is still not as polished as iOS but I used Graphene with and without the snadboxed play services for a few years until my pixel died and it worked great

Not sure which Pixel you should get but I can get last years model for like 1/3rd RRP brand new on ebay (the devaluation Pixels is always crazy)

One thing I would advise is setting up the Pixel when you get it on the stock rom and use a backup app to rip the installed gcam APK and then save it and install Graphene (the web installer is really nice)

Graphene has an ok camera app but it doesn't have Googles Ai magic and you can get Gcam apps online which have been modded but they always run shitty on Pixels

(make sure you don't accidentally update it in Aurora)

>inb4 get it from Aurora

That gives you the generic every device Gcam app and not the specific one made for that exact pixel and camera.
>>
>>101342937
good to know, if i go with graphene i'm not "bricking" the camera but it won't be as good. so there's not really an incentive to getting a nicer pixel then huh
>>
>>101342949
No that's what i'm saying, you need to save the stock rom APK and use it on Graphene to get all the nice functionality Google built for it

When you do this you should get all the same functionality with the camera as the stock rom

In reality Graphene's stock camera will you just show you exactly what the camera sensor takes and Google's app plays with it a bit to give you nicer photos / better low light / less distortion

If you install the stock Gcam you can have both on there at the same time anyway

I personally would pay for the Pro or whatever its called just for the bigger screen, battery and nicer camera, I did consider getting the fold before I got my iPhone but I don't think the screen durability is quite there yet on foldables but its nice that there's ROM support for it.

100% worth it. Daily driving for 2 years. Put a long password on the main profile and use PINs for secondary profiles. Primary is for fresh boot protection, secondaries are your activities (default, finance, memes, etc). I install F-Droid, add IzzyOnDroid repo, install Orbot and Aurora Store, then Briar and SimpleX and other secure softwares, and so on. You install in the main profile, revoke everything's network perms, and "push through" the apps to the various secondary profiles.
Using secondary profiles leaves you on the AOSP SMS app, be warned. Get off SMS anyway g0y!

I use the Pixel Camera app from Sandboxed Google Play. It's almost perfect, but I dislike how it handles QR codes. If you scan one with a URL, your only option is to open it. GrapheneOS's Camera app gives you the choice to copy, open or share, what a concept.

>>
>>101339872
And? If you use GrapheneOS you are already schizo enough not to install weird programs and visit spooky websites, so new versions don't matter as much.
Also I think 4a is still on extended support.

>F-Droid
Frenly reminder that F-Droid has some security issues.
https://privsec.dev/posts/android/f-droid-security-issues/
Neo-Store (picrel) is a safer alternative to the F-Droid app. It has the F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid and Guardian Project repos added and enabled by default.

Don't do it OP. Use PajeetiageOS on a Chinkphone. Once you understand how much better GrapheneOS is you are now forever vendorlocked to jewgle device. I made that mistake and whish I could forget.
>>
>>101348902
>forever vendorlocked to jewgle device
That wouldn't be the case if competing manufacturers made better phones.

Worth it anon.
It isn't bulletproof, but it's the very best thing you can do to your own sanity.
The only thing worse than google stock firmware is motorola > xiaomi.
>>
>>101342937
Fascinating, this is exactly what I have been wondering!! Where did you learn this?
>rip the installed gcam APK and then save it
how does one do this? Is this called something specific more specific than "ripping an apk"?

also, wouldn't the Gcam app be really pozzed, phoning home? Or can GrapheneOS clamp down on any APKs network access?
>>
>>101350243
>also, wouldn't the Gcam app be really pozzed, phoning home? Or can GrapheneOS clamp down on any APKs network access?
Just disable Network permission. GrapheneOS will trick the app into thinking it still has Network permission enabled, and that the network is down, not disconnected. This eliminates the risk of asshole apps bitching or refusing to run if they detect that the Network permission is disabled or that a network connection has not been established.

>SD Card
I'm fine with using a USB flash drive with an OTG adapter if my Pixel gets too full of porn. Never really yearned for an SD card in my phone.
