With this huge GTK drama and libadwaita deliberately breaking pretty much every GTK project (https://github.com/xapp-project), why isn't functionality from wxwidgets utilized more? For example XFCE wasn't always GTK based and since it is programmed in C, porting it to Qt would be certainly difficult, with no good C bindings for Qt. Also Wxwidgets seems to be pretty mature project, so why is there no DE made in it?BTW what's the usecase for CAPTCHA
wxwidgets don't support theming and only translate to native platform, wxgtk in case of linux afaik
>>101536235Still some of the functionality could be utilized to help Qt X GTK compatibility (themeing and such)?
>>101536101wxwidgets translates to GTK(Gender Transition Kit) on unix and linux
>>101536517Isn't there wxqt as well?
>>101536101I would rather try re implementing the Java Desktop Environment.
>>101536101C++ for a DE is retarded. It's a bunch of fucking rectangles and FS paths. You should be able to do this in C.
>>101536517tell me that isn't true... winx widgets sisters??
>>101537006Literally anything in Qt is C++? Also probably the only major widget system supporting C is GTK and even that uses its own implementation...
>>101536997SOVL. Though that's just themed old GNOME, when it didn't suck balls
>>101536101There have been DEs in pretty much ever toolkit, but only Qt and GTK have been relevant: https://eylenburg.github.io/de_comparison.htmAnd Motif in the 90s, I guess.
>>101538260That's a nice comparison table! But why do you think it is that way?
>>101536101>since it is programmed in C, porting it to Qt would be certainly difficultwhat?? C++ compiler will be able to compile C
>>101538408True, but Qt has no good C bindings and it's supposedly quite a pain in the ass
>>101538461so just call QT using C++you don't need to change existing C code much
for me it's tcl/tk
>>101538563I don't think that's easily appliable to a fully fledged desktop environment made completely in GTK
>>101539322Though I got to say I would be very happy if XFCE devs deciced to dump GTK in favor of Qt. Same applies to Firefox and Thunderbird.
>>101536101Why not simply use FLTK and revive the Equinox Desktop Envrionment?
>>101541152Wish I knew about this one earlier. Bump.
>>101536517oh fuck my sides
Who is this cuck, OP and how he managed to screw your girlfriend?
>>101536517holy fuck i didn't even read the text. i just saw ebussy, clicked the video, laughed, and laughed even harder when i read the text.
>>101536101There is also EFL aka Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (https://www.enlightenment.org/about-efl/). It's mostly 2 clause BSD license (some modules are lgpl) and actually has the feature set needed for somewhat advanced GUIs and desktop environments. Aside from the forgotten DE Enlightenment, apparently Samsung uses it on some of their embedded devices. Lead dev (http://www.rasterman.com/resume.pdf/) actually lived in South Korea and worked on their graphics team before joining ARM. Pretty sure the Budgie dev said that next release, 11, will abandon GTK due to Gnome's fuckery and move to EFL (https://joshuastrobl.com/2021/09/14/building-an-alternative-ecosystem/).
