why haven't you taken the trackball pill yet anon?
>>
>>101539193
I couldn't fit it in my mouth
>>
>>101539193
I actually did get one primarily because posts like this got the better of me and I realized I had never tried it.
In some ways it's easier to use and easier on your wrist after a long day. But in others, it's confusing and hard to use, especially if you've used a mouse for 30 years.
I just keep both on my desk and use one or the other when the mood strikes.
>>
>>101539193
A lot of them don't have a scroll wheel which is absolutely retarded in this day and age.

been using this classic for years.

Scroll ring is just as good.
>>
>>101539193
The buttons are trash for all trackballs
>>
>>101539193
I did
>>101540549
uses the same buttons as a mouse
>>101540382
You just spin the ball while holding a button (on mine at least). Ltrac has a scroll bar in an awkward spot and the kensingtons have a ring.
>>
>>101539193
I tried it and it sucked. I would rather use my keyboard for 99% of my tasks and fill in the remaining 1% with a real fucking mouse rather than a tranny toy
>>
>>101540419
fucking one battery lasts 500000 years I swear
>>
expensive
>>
i put my kensington away somewhere and can't find it ahhhhhhhhhh

the kesington orbit has a scroll wheel and it's one of the cheapest trackballs you can get. but the reason a lot of four button trackballs or diy trackballs like this one >>101541046
don't have a scroll ring or scroll wheel is because they have a scroll button
>>101541710
you can get the orbit for less than $30 on sale, but idk if that's cheap or expensive for you

I have a slimblade and it scrolls by rotating the ball
>>
Recently reprinted and changed to ball transfer units.
Pros:
>extemely consistent
>extremely sensitive
>smooth
Cons:
>noisy
>extremely sensitive (not always good)
>>
I would like to try a setup with a split keyboard and a trackball in the middle, but its a lot of dough to just try it and potentially find out i dont like it

I did tho. I have 3 computers and all of them have trackballs plugged in
Kensington Slimblade is my main that I've been using for like 10 years, Elecom Deft Pro and Elecom Huge are my backups. I like that they take minimal desk space and you don't have to move your arm to use them. You can literally put one in your lap or hold it in your off hand and mouse around effortlessly
>>
>>101541904
I think the slimblade is the only trackball that does this I think
>>101541898
then get one of those cheapass. the orbit is my favorite trackball though because of the shape, it has great ergonomics, and I have two, one for each hand.
>>
>>101542591
Is there a button press to activate the spinning of the ball to scroll? On the ploopy you have to hit a key, but the default dpi is so intense you literally turn the ball 1/10th of its rotation and it clears an entire screen (too much IMO)
>>
>>101539193
Bc I don't ever use a desk or computer. I use laptops on a couch or bed all day
>>
>>101543134
you just turn it sideways and it scrolls. there's an audible clicky feedback when it's scrolling
>>
>>101542288
How do you like the Elecom Huge? I'm in the market for a trackball since I'm getting back into a desk job, and I can't find my expert mouse anymore. I was looking around, and it honestly seems like kensington is still stomping the competition. I liked the look of the CST, especially because I was a little drawn in by the glowing blue ball. But I'm not interested in a design where the ball doesn't easily pop out for cleaning.
>>
>>101543325
fuck, I like that. I don't need another trackball.

What's the use case.
>>
>>101539193
I have an mx ergo, the scroll wheel sucks. Would be nice if it had the free wheel from the other mx mice.
>>
>>101539453
underrated
>>
>>101543406
the Yuge is okay, better than the Deft Pro at least. I mained it for a year or so while my Slimblade was out of commission due to the left click switch going bad. It's so fucklarge that it provides its own wrist support

I considered getting a CST long ago but that scroll wheel and middle mouse button look so fucking janky and uncomfortable and even the people who use them tend to admit it
>>
>>101543755
I think it may have been you that earlier posted about the slimblade having a sort of clicky feedback on scrolling, is that true? Is it like a normal scroll wheel where you can "count clicks" to be able to scroll around purely on tactile feedback? I like the kensington scroll rings from the orbit and expert mouse, but I really wish they were clicky so I could just know when I scroll 2 clicks, as opposed to guessing and then having to scroll the other way. Just because the ring itself is butter smooth doesn't mean the software scrolls as smoothly.
>>
>>101543823
That wasn't me but yeah there is literally a tiny speaker inside that produces an tactile click upon scrolling. You can count individual lines based on it.
>>
>>101543891
I definitely didn't expect that it was producing the clicks via speaker, but that's really cool. Sorry for bombarding you, but is the mouse generally pretty good at knowing when you're scrolling and when you're just rolling the ball? Do you notice it getting confused between the two?
>>
>>101543936
I don't remember the last time I scrolled by accident. Over the years I got good at scrolling by pushing or pulling at the base of the ball as opposed to anchoring a finger at the top and twisting it. It sounds weird but it's super easy when you get used to it
>>
>>101544080
although one caveat, scrolling does not lock the cursor in place so if you desire extreme accuracy while scrolling like swapping weapons in a game or something then maybe it's not for you
>>
>>101544080
Thank you for your time. I'm still deciding between alternatives, namely the Huge for it's huge amount of buttons, but I'm honestly not even sure I would put them all to use consistently. You may have sold me on a slimblade, even though I was originally wary of twist-scrolling vs scroll ring.
>>
>>101540470
I don't fucking know why the expert is so expensive compared to the orbit
>>
>>101539193
I used to. But the one I actually liked had a chip fail and I haven't been able to find a good trackball since. They're all either an unwieldly mess these days or a wireless right handed thumb ball that gets gummed up constantly.
>>
>>101544782
It really makes no sense. All the expert has is... 2 extra buttons, and a worse scroll ring. The price is retarded.
>>
>CRT looks a bit expensive, lacking in buttons, but has 2 ports for extensions
OK, takes extra work but this could be cool
>every single extension costs at least as much as the device itself, often more
Oh jesus christ nevermind. It's obvious they intentionally gimped the device with the bare minimum of buttons, just so they could sell you half an F row for $200.
>>
>>101541046
Is there any way to have a twist to scroll function for the Ploopy Adept? Main reason why I haven't bought one yet.
>>
>>101539193
track ball mice feel oh so nice
>>
>>101546284
Not sure. I haven't seen anyone do it. It is really comfortable to scroll with since your hand doesn't move much and the standard DPI is asburdly sensitive, SL.click hold plus a tiny turn of the ball is very comfortable/very little movement.
>>
>>101544819
get the orbit, the ball is pretty small
