Two important text files got corrupted due to windows crashing (right when I was adding links). Now they're shown as binary.

One of them contains a huge list of archived 4chan threads, torrent & private trackers, rom sites, various databases, obscure old websites, libraries, archives, search engines, blogspots, list of valuable stuff to buy and hundreds of other useful links.

I'm trying to scan and restore them with recuva but no luck. The last backup was made 6 months ago.

Here are the text files, maybe someone can see and tell if they are recoverable.

You don't have to do this but I just want to know if it's possible to restore them or at least tell that it's impossible, I'd be forever grateful.

pull pc plug and then arrange a boot usb or cd with a copy of testdisk
if youre in a rush you can probably make one in a local copy shop
>>
anyway, there's zero data in that rar you posted. pull it out of the FS directly or ngmi, may be gone already considering you've kept using the pc.

I guess I'll have to find the specialist but not sure that even with right tools it's doable.

>>101545917

Strange. Maybe this link will work. It has two exact text files.

cloud (doot) mail (doot) ru (right slash) public (right slash) sFvC (right slash) rq45wubTb

no, I mean they're files with a bunch of null bytes only. they have no informational content beyond a specific count of null bytes.
>>
>>101546161
and that specialist is probably just testdisk, as I already said. and yes your fs / os may well have already overwritten or zeroed out your data correct, but a copy of testdisk doesn't cost money and testdisk is a very effective data recovery utility.
>>
>>101546213

Yeah, same here. Just nulls.

>>101546236

Ok, I'll try testdisk. Although the drive is 500gb, hope this won't take too long (several days) .

remember this, it's the one thing you have to do to guarantee that you'll get the data off if it's still there.

You might wanna try searching through windows cache directory. There might be a temporary file there with your text file contents.
Like use findstr command on all files in that dir, searching for a unique string you know was in the original.

Ok, thank you. Just need to be patient, Hopefully won't ruin my drive with all the data on it. Although I made a backup.

>>101546446

Thanks for this suggestion. I'll browse temp folder as well, maybe I'll find something. The second text file is 2+ mb large and contains 40k rows of links

if you have known plaintext (such as an url fragment 1:1) you can boot from livecd, mount your drive read only, then you can pipe dd /dev/sdb (the raw / unpartitioned device) into grep and let grep print the byte offset for you.
then you can take a margin around that byte offset (maybe 2MB for 40k url buffer?) and dd that into a file. then you can cut it to size with a hex editor.

can't walk you through the exact flags bc not memorized, I can only recall that grep -F 'plaintext' does literal matching so you can put the url into it directly, not regex-based like it usually does.

this would work if the file is on your hdd unblemished but not where you can easily find it through your fs.

Ok, I'm a noob and I can barely understand the instruction but I'll copy it and try to find these files or restore them. In worst case scenario I will take the pc to the repair shop and explain the situation there.

just upload your entire disk image to the internet and let us rifle through it :)
>>
>>101545860
there is another post by some other nigger who wants to take the shortcut. maybe you can join him for not having backups?

Ever heard of backups?
