Without a hardware lockout any "can't write here" flags are just advisory for the kernel and an exploit could just bypass it.On macos the core OS is stored on a partition that even root can't write to on a running machine. This is why OS updates are like 3 reboots because first it has to write to the update block, reboot into patch mode, patch the OS, reboot into new kernel, finish patching, reboot into new OS. Malware can't make a fake update because of code signing and it can't overwrite the signing keys because the partition is locked while the OS is running, and it's encrypted at rest so without the key you can't direct write blocks either.
Only pedos use encryption anyway so its fine.
