You can only post in this thread if you have a UPS.
says who
Do laptop batteries count
Don't let me interrupt this thread.
Replaced the tired SLAs in my UPS with LFPs.It doesn't know how much time it has left now, but it lasts 3x as long as it did with new SLAs.It's a racket that nobody makes UPSes with any kind of lithium battery for the consumer market.
>>101564121Been done
>>101564117Yes.>>101564154>Postan lust provoking imagery in an UPS thread
>>101564153How'd you do that? I have 2 old APC UPS laying around that I'd consider modding like this
>>101564087
>>101564087I have one. Don't use it because I don't want my house to burn down. I have a server room in my garden I might put it in though, once I run ethernet.
Last power outage was 10+ years agoAnd I'm a lazy nigger+noserver
>>101564117Do you have it hooked up to a monitor? Then no.
>>101564268LFP batteries are sold in the same form factor as the usual lead brick in UPSes. They seem mostly to get marketed for fish finders, powerwheels, and electric wheel chairs -- not for UPSes, not sure why.The float charger built into the UPS isn't ideal, but it's fine for charging 12v LFPs to ~80% (Better for battery longevity though). All I had to do for my 12v Liebert UPS was shove it in.My APC UPS is 24v with a super special overpriced proprietary battery that's basically just 2x 12v 10a batteries glued together and connected in series under a plastic cover. Yours is probably the same. For some reason I don't fully understand, the LFPs would become unbalanced when in series over the course of a few weeks, so I threw a cheap battery equalizer on it.The only real challenge is finding a LFP battery with a good discharge rating that can meet the max output of your UPS. Look for the highest continuous discharge rating you can get. I used Dakota Lithium, which can handle 20a continuous. If you only use it for low power networking shit, you can use a lower rated chinky battery, just know that the BMS will cut power if you go over the max continuous long enough.Because of the different voltage curve of LFP vs SLA, the UPS's time remaining estimate is totally wrong, but it works great otherwise.
>>101564284They won't burn your house down if you get them from Eaton or APC. This series >>101564280 did have a manufacturing defect that led to board corrosion that could cause a short though, and they didn't recall any of them despite knowing about itAlso make sure you replace the batteries at the manufacturer's specified interval unless you enjoy inhaling hydrogen sulfide
>>101564284Why would your house burn down?
>>101564087Powerbank Bros get ready!
Now you must unplug your UPS from the wall to prove it is working correctly.

>>101564087Stole one from work but I threw it out in an autistic fit while listening to Marie Kondo
You DO have a double conversion UPS, right?Well, what model do you have?
>>101564087>american infrastructure being so absolute dogshit that you need these expensive ewaste machines to even keep your stuff runninglol, lmao even. i can't even remember the last power outage i had, might have been like 20 years ago
>>101564087I have laptops and phones, so technically, i got plenty of UPSs
>>101564572No, they're supposed to be grounded. If you need to test one you do it by shutting off the circuit (or if you have switches on the sockets like in the UK just turn that off).
>>101564572Enjoy your house fire.
>>101564738Even in countries with actual good infrastructure it depends a lot on where you live. Shorter cut-offs or otherwise bad power can be relatively common outside of bigger cities during thunder or otherwise heavy storms. That short cut may not have much of an effect on your daily gaymen schedule but for example a server running even a handful of disks of spinning rust in it is something you might want to protect against such things.>>101564741Technically, you don't.
My ups is a capacitor in my power supply
>>101564949>No, they're supposed to be grounded.Lol. El oh el even.
>>101565727I'm going to trust the manual that came with my (Eaton) rack UPS that explicitly says in huge bold letters next to a warning triangle that it must be grounded while in operation anon
>>101564511Aren't these things like 4x the cost of SLA? Are you seeing performance relative to cost switching to LiFePO?

>>101564087breaking the rules of the thread to ask for some entry level recs for a ups. recently got into self hosting and my area is prone to power outages.i only need something to keep a sff pc alive long enough to shut it down safely
>>101568190I have some cheapo APC ups that I got for 60 dollars although that was quite a few years ago now, the same model might be more expensive due to """"inflation"""". It's 600VA and it lasts long enough to keep my server up during a power blip, and autmatically turn it off in a blackout. Get one with a usb cable to send shutdown commands to your pc. If you use Linux get one that supports NUT.
>>101564087Eaton gang Poors get out
>>101564153>>101564511Lead acid batteries are better for UPS applications because they don't mind being constantly trickle charged. They're heavy but it doesn't matter in stationary applications

>>101564087Testing(I have two so this reply should fail)
yeah i have one thats been sitting in my kitchen collecting dust and gaining no use (its been outside and its probably dead)
>>101564280>cloudngmiNice UPS though. No I won't replace my battery.
>>101564087Posting from my laptop.>b-but...Eat a dick.
>>101564511this also has the advantage of keeping your house or apartment nice and warm once the batteries swell and explode after being trickled charged for 2 years
>>101569564Anon the battery replacement schedule isn't because of capacity or anything, it's because if they fail due to age they will leak gases that can kill you
I was considering buying a 1500va UPS for my 4090+13900ks system. Is there a particularly recommended model? I've only ever seen APC models in person so I wasn't aware of brand like Eaton and Cyberpower.I particularly want it to help with ground loop noise the is audible through my powered speakers whenever I play video games or when the GPU is accelerate something. Power outages are rare for me unless there's a severe storm.
>>101569835Maybe OP's laptop battery doesn't work, lol.
>>101570387this is a myth invented by apc to get you waste money on batteries every year
I have a "Titan Phonesaver UPS", does that count?
>>101570412The Cyberpower CP1500EPFLCD is a good value option (and will handle 900W of load).Eaton are who I'd recommend if you're building a rack but probably not for a desktop.
>>101564087>You can only post in this thread if you have a UPS.lies, I don't have one and I just posted, get fucked, fag

>>101564087Recommend some good UPS' for 750W desktop computers.

>>101570906Cyberpower CP1500EPFCLCD or Eaton 5S 1500
i have a UPS but cant use it because none of the outlets in my house are grounded
>>101564087I have one for NAS (CyberPower Sinewave 900VA) connected via UPS, since it is a mustalso connected network devicesworking for 3.5 years>>101570684>>101570412I'd only get the one with pure sinewave since that's what Corsair recommends for their PSUsCP1500EPFLCD is great price-wise in US (200$?)the EU model though costs twice as much for some reason
>>101571475>CP1500EPFLCD I meant CP1500PFCLCD
>>101571234>i have a UPS but cant use it because none of the outlets in my house are groundedwhy you can't use it?does your model not power up without ground or something?I have no issues with Cyberpower Sinewave 900va without ground
>>101571547They can't properly handle power surges or voltage fluctuations without a ground. Worst case it can blow up the battery and start a fire. If your Cyberpower model has a display it should show a wiring fault warning if there's no ground.
>>101564087I habe a separate UPS for each rack :3
