Learned a very painful lesson today. Solder in only the space/shift/enter/backspace/etc switches and test with your most unforgiving tight keycap before putting in any other switches.Soldering a full TKL and then discovering you have a stab alignment problem after putting on all the caps... It sucks a lot...
Cherry made the best stabilizer

KAM keycaps finally came. Unfortunately the spacebar and enter need to be like .25u bigger but had to do it with novelties since 40s kit were sold out.
>>101567688dead fucking general
>>101568418we keep it alive just fine
>>101568369those caps are pretty slick, looks nice
>Imagine needing more/mkg/ chuds have too much money at their disposal and no idea what to spend it on.
got an aula f87 for like 40 bucks yesterdayrip my noppoo choc mini that I've had for 10+ yearsWhy is keyboard stuff so autistic now? There's like a billion different types of switches now and they all have stupid reddit name like 'stunko milky dobblers -CHUNGIS- edition' All the youtube faggots are advertising this shit; they have all these expensive keyboards but never seem to do anything of value with them. What a stupid consumerist "hobby".
>>101568478Those are all normalfags baits lol
>>101568478Every single youtuber is a dishonest shill, why are you even watching them. They're paid to promote chink boards and switches. Even if they're not chink shit, they're still thieves. For example, Glares made Cherry Purples and those shit break keycaps while he lied they didn't. Bro doesn't even have a disclaimer for it after the fact.
>>101568640Glarses, not Glares. Glare is a respectable korean that collabs with Geon for keyboards. On that note, at least Geon put up a notice.
>>101568640kek aren't those made by cherry? That's pretty funny either way. I don't plan on watching any more of those shills, I was just looking for a qrd on everything since I haven't been in the market for a replacement keyboard for a long time. Seems like I'm coming from a simpler time and this shit has gotten way out of hand.
>>101568807Yeah, legit Cherry keycaps. Retard used stem molds made for industrial use so pulling out keycaps are harder and if you do, they break.
>>101568899*legit Cherry switches

nth for split columnar stagger
>>101567688This Cherry keyboard is the best keyboard I've ever bought. The low profile "speed switches" are just amazing and crumb-resistant overall.
I got a hp enterprise laptop from my workplace, and I plan to use it 24/7 as a home server for home assistant, a DNS server and other small goodies.Am I retarded and I should buy a energy efficient ARM board or will I be fine ?
>>101570587I am retarded I wanted to post on /hsg/
I'm about to get my F1-88 bros, I'm so hyped...
I'm looking for a TKL that's great sounding and has see-through RGB lighting. Hotswappable too since I like custom keycapsI'm at my wit's end. I looked toward Keychron but their South-facing RGB looks ass when it's customised with see-through keycapsWhat do?
>>101571945leobog k81 probably your best bet. you won't be able to get any good high end boards.
I decided 40% was too small for me after two years. The efficiency gains that I got from never having to leave the home row were ultimately offset by the concessions and hacks that I had to make to ensure that my board could handle of the breadth of tasks that my fullsize and 60% could. I see the use case if your usage of the computer begins and ends at writing text - but for gaming, production of any kind, or editing? Forget it, especially gaming. Getting tied up in layers is the fucking worst, especially when you come across uncommon key combos and you have to rewrite parts of your layout in consideration of them.
>>101572748>getting tied up in layersMeh, I'm playing fps games on my 40% and I just toggle a layer and set and forget until I'm done gaming.
>>101567688guys are wooting keyboards good
>>101572748What keyboard is that?
>>101572836Good for competitive games yes
>>101568640>>101568683MX Purple use the same stems/sliders as Clears and it's been an issue that customers have complained about for years for those switches as well. Why the fuck hasn't Cherry just removed that weird little bump on the stem? I don't really hear about any of their other switches breaking keycaps.Yeah it'd be new tooling, but it'd bring it inline design wise with the rest of their shit.>>101568899Are you sure? I could have sworn basically all Clears had this issue as well, even the ones customers are able to purchase outright. If the reasoning was "for industrial use" then does that mean that Clears were designed solely for that and not really intended to be bought as loose switches?
>>101573038It's a fully custom handwired board IIRC, not sold anywhere
What's the name of those little things that prop up the keyboard? Mine broke. Is there a product on Amazon that I can buy that isn't a whole fucking contraption to elevate my keyboard?
>>101574183what about sticking on something like thishttps://www.amazon.com/Conical-Rubber-Bumpers-Black-Electronics/dp/B075KZBR2Y/ref=sr_1_26?th=1

>>101575728This doesn't look good.
so only razer and wooting have snap tap?
>>101575886For now, in a few weeks/months the rest will have it
>>101575728Hate LCD bullshitterly so much
>>101575728Looks good to me. Not my taste (I'm white) but for someone else, I see why they might like it.

any good cheap ergo split keyboard? I have a keychron q1 and like most about it, but I wish it was a split and wireless, but still have similiar quality. I tried the road of building and 3d printing cases but they feel like shit
I just got a realforce R3SB31, and I am feeling pretty conflicted. Initially I was pretty disappointed because the switches did not feel tactile at all; I thought they were linear and akin to generic office membrane keyboards, contrary to the very high tactility claimed by everyone online. I even doubted if I got a genuine board at all. But after typing on it for a while, they started to feel a lot more tactile, but still not nearly as tactile as proclaimed. Just what exactly is the topre experience meant to be? Very tactile? Less tactile but smooth? Tactile yet soft? And how do I check if the board is genuine? Also the colour is way off compared to how it looked like in the pictures, the board and the keycaps is semi-dark grey instead of black and the letters is this cream white instead of pure white.
>>101577319>Just what exactly is the topre experience meant to be?Oneness with cup rubber. It's its own thing.

>>101568475>too much moneyJust found this keyboard in spillway, it's aliexpress special redragon kumara. Waiting for aliexpress parts to fix it up. Will use low profile red switches and cheap retro keycaps that you buy in bag by weight.Nothing feels better than hardware that you stole or found in trash.
>>101580463That 2nd black keyboard was too far gone with base split in two.I also started collecting switches and keycaps that where all over the place in grass and mud but gave up since too acoustic even for me.
>>101572748>>101574168Damn that brutalist/industrial look. Saved.
hate to be a shill but this seems like a pretty good dealat least it's accurately priced kek
>>101580792Great deal, gonna get one for an extra set of keycaps and switches
>>101567688Has anyone made a handheld sized mechanical keyboard yet?
Sisters, I want a new keyboard.60%, bottom right keys in the order: alt, menu, strg, fn; ansi layout (i.e. long left shift key), detachable cable (preferrably usb c ofc), hotswappable blue switches.Found a few on amazon like this, like GK61, RK61, or GM610. Other recommendations very welcome. Got a few questions:1) Should I look for cherry switches only, or are other manufacturers okay, too?2) If they have bluetooth function, they must have a battery somewhere? Can this be replaced or completely removed? I don't really like to have a battery in my keyboard.
Also, black or white keyboard?I know that it makes sense to use a black keyboard when working with dark programs, and to use a white keyboard when using programs with a bright background; given that you look at the keyboard and the screen.Since I don't look at the keyboard while typing, the color is not important for me. My hardware is mainly black, but on pictures the white keyboards look kind of nice. I'm just worried that bright keyboards will soon look like shit. Any opinions?
>>101581030GK61 and RK61 are both fine choices for the price, if you get the variant with QMK support then you can set up the bottom right keys however you like. Cherry is fine, most prebuilts will come with either Cherry or Gateron which is also good, but if you get hotswap you could consider upgrading to clickies like the Kailh Box white/jade/navy/pale blue which are popular nowadays. Bluetooth means a battery yes, really depends on the keyboard whether you can replace/remove it. Just get wired if you don't want a battery/bluetooth anyways. >>101581169Completely up to opinion but personally, I would get black if your other peripherals are black.
>>101567688I wanted to try something new so I bought some Gateron Pro Yellow v3 to swap. Mainly because they are dirt cheap, 20€ for 110pc is a good price.God bless hot-swap, if I had to solder all those switches I wouldn't bother. So far I like them.
learning the hard way that ISO-flexible plates are great if you like having enter key stab alignment problems that cause bindingI will never view ANSI-only as a downside again
Hey /mkg/, I need to get a wired keyboard for work because the wireless one they provide is actual garbage (reason: connection blips out, impossible to code with). Don’t need fancy frills, just something that feels okay to type on and isn’t ‘loud’. Is the cherry stream an acceptable low-cost option?
>>101581363Thanks. I have the choice between Gateron optical or mechanical blue switches. Any recommendations? I have only ever used mechanical ones.
>>101582177I can't speak to opticals, some people seem to like them but they would definitely at least limit your options for hotswap, if that matters to you.
I'm about to pull the FUCKING trigger and spend a lot of money. How's the Gateron G Pro browns? I've only used Cherry reds so far, and I'm kind of fed up with the typos I make while typing. I heard browns are a good middle way between office and gaming use, they are also tactile, which gives some sort of feedback when you press a button.
>>101583326Alright, I will then order the GK61 in black with blue mechanical switches. I even thought about buying a barebone keyboard, and separate switches and caps, but this shit is expensive.
>>101583388I'm not very experienced with different keyboard switches, but this reminds me of people buying a more expensive instrument in the hope that they will play better. The answer is exercise.
>>101583473I use Cherry reds for a decade now, still make mistakes. It doesn't affect gaming though, but writing a simple text requires extreme focus. Just as I typed this text I had to delete typos 3 times. This could be also bad posture or something like that, but I just hope it's really the lightweight switches, and not my brain damage.
>>101583388>they are also tactileNo they aren't, you can call that scratchy but at the same time they are lubed so I don't see the point.https://www.rtings.com/keyboard-switch/reviews/gateron/g-pro-3-0-brownThe "tactility" isn't where the actuation happens anyway. But higher actuation force will still help you with typos, the best solution would be hall effect keyboard so you could set actuation point.
>>101583732Oh, that's good to know. Are there any good shine through keycaps for Keychrons? I read they don't illuminate the keys on the caps, just give some kind of light around the caps.
>>101583795I don't use backlight because it's distracting so my best bet is hitting some chink website if you don't want to spend too much.Pudding double shots usually have translucent legends.Just avoid laser etched ABS caps because those wear out within months.
So I'm about to PULL the TRIGGER on 5 Rasti64 boards (because that's the lowest number JLCPCB allows you to order). The MCU is only 5$ and the switches, stabilizers and keycaps another 30-50$, depending on the keycap quality. I have all the other parts so this is rather cheap. However, I've already built a Lagom and a crkbd, how many obscure keyboards are enough?!
>>101583388Browns didnt feel good to me. The feedback is slightly there but doesn't feel satisfying. I switched from browns to reds and never looked back, just had to get used to typing lighter. Maybe look for switches with higher resistance if you want the feedback
>>101584302but heavier feedback isn't good for gaming, right? Not sure how heavy these clicky switches are as I have never pressed any, but it sounds like a deal breaker if you play fast-paced FPS games.
>>101584333>heavier feedback isn't good for gamingDoes not matter. Used to use gat ink black and was smfc in cs during that time.Certain switches being "good" for games is a meme. At that point, if you're getting a keyboard just for gaming, get a wooting. Otherwise, all switches do the job well enough. If you want a switch that's great right out the box, get HMX Perky. If you want tactile, get BSUN Olive.
For gayming do I go for the Razer Huntsman V2 or Blackwidow V3? Anything is an improvement over my Logitech G413 right now
>>101586408Wooting.
>>101586501If I wasn't a poorfag I wouldI can only splurge around 150 CAD and the Huntsman V2 and BW V3 fit the budget
>>101586511Huntsman then I guess. It has the snap tap thing that's allowed in tournaments (so far).
>>101586546Does the V2 have it? And I heard there were some issues with it being recognized as a controller and interfering with actual controllers, so I want to make an informed decision
>>101586563Don't own the board so idk, but last I heard it was the "huntsman line" so maybe? Go ask their support or something.
Bump. Say a prayer for /mkg/ that we receive fewer gamers asking about the Chee Ting keyboard
>>101573344is it possible to build your own hall effect keyboard yet?
My new cheapmaxxed keyboard>keychron v2 barebones>JWK T1 switches>XVX/Womier double shot pbt keycapsOnly cost me around $100-110
>>101585779>all switches do the job well enoughHell no, blues suck ass for shooters where you need to change direction on a dimeI haven't tried greens or whites but I assume they're even worse than blues
monospace sold out. rip to all of you who didn't buy one. I'll tell you how it is when mine gets here
>>101568472Thanks! It's my first time with KAM keycaps too. Never knew there were premade glossy keycaps available, so when I saw it, immediately bought.
What's the GOAT fullsize? I'm looking at the Wooting Two HE right now.
