As a student running Linux, do you run into compatibility issues? What's your setup?
>>
>>101572941
No, macfags were the ones that got fucked by compatibility issues in my uni. It's gonna vary a lot depending on what kind of software you're expected to use.
>>
>>101572941
I'm not a student

I imagine anyone need to use matlab or autocad will be facing issues.

ABSOLUTE HORSESHIT

Mint just werks on my macbook air, and the worst thing i have ever had to do was install some broadcom drivers for wifi with the driver app, i didnt even have to touch the CLI....

linux on mac hardware is GOAT, FFS there is even asahi now for apple silicon !
>>
>>101573247
I didn't mean linux users on mac hardware, I meant macos users.
>>
>>101572941
went through university with no problem, I had a win vm in case I needed it but I hardly used it

Mint just werked. I swtiched to linux in Uni so I had to make some substitutions but overall it was pretty simple. Most collab tools people decide to use are webshit like Discord and Overleaf (though I write my shit in TexStudio). Wacom drivers were better than windows' somehow

Only the Apple Silicon users get fucked over when they need to run a virtual machine. I haven't faced any issues as an Intel user.

You just proved the opposite.

I bought a Windows laptop for compatibility issues.
>>
>>101572941
Professor demanded we all have macs. Said we -needed- it for pages.
Very few people bought one and those who did quickly discovered that at no point was there ever a reason for one and were quite pissed they splurged on them when they were poor-ass students.
I used linux. It was fine. Technically we "needed" to use photoshop but I just did everything in Krita and nobody noticed.
>>
>>101573199
Matlab provides a native linux binary. So no.
>>
>>101572941
>do you run into compatibility issues
yes, with females
>>
>>101574872
Why do professors do this? Do they get a cut from the university tech store? I remember having to buy some asinine bluetooth remote control for taking quizzes. It had 5 buttons and you had to make an account online and the prof would show the questions one at a time on the projector. Cost me $50 just so the TA didn't have to run a scantron through a machine or heaven forbid grade a multiple choice test by hand.

No

P16 G2 i7-13850HX RTX A3500 128GB 2x4TB Qubes OS
12GB VRAM in that RTX is great for lm studio, and with Qubes I can comfortably run winsuck in a qube and keep the aids totally contained.

Be ready to spend $3K on ebay for my setup. Well worth it to skip the baby tyke 12 year old stinkpads and just get something modern with a fat GPU and VRAM. You *will* need it for local AI and you *must not* cut your own balls off to felate Stallman or your binary blob autisms.
>>
>>101572941
i had to install a windows partition so i could use some bullshit web browser that tracked me while i took a test. other than that i haven't had any issues
>>
>>101575096
The campus store didn't even sell macs. It was just entirely one professor being a gigantic doorknob.
Also I fucking hate those remotes and similar devices. KDE connect is a godsend.

Never on the productive stuff. Games on the other hand I have issues all the time. If your non-retarded the normal stuff should work perfectly. Nowadays even HDR works, except for in browseres.
>>
>As a student running Linux, do you run into compatibility issues?
No, but there was one time I was forced to install Windows because we were required to use AutoCAD. Alternatives were not allowed.

>What's your setup?
Nothing fancy. Just an old laptop running Fedora with DWM.
>>
>As a student running Linux, do you run into compatibility issues?
No because the only tech that I ever have to use is a text editor and LibreOffice Writer works well enough for that.
>>
>>101572941
CachyOS Masterrace everything just werks.

a cheap toshiba satellite c55 running Mint, it's decent

Only a few times when a teacher wanted a .docx submission for an assignment. But you could just ask to use PDF since any typewriter software worth a dam can convert from PDF anyways.

>>101572941
Never had issues in my bsc because the only piece of software i needed was gretl, due to based professors.
Wrote my msc thesis in latex and used R, so I'd say in my case it was fine.
But yeah, it can vary, especially if you have retards as your professors.
>>
>>101572941
No, but I'm in CompSci. If I was in Engineering or Graphic Design or something it may be different. Thinkpad t440 & desktop.
