You only hate Canonical because they've successfully popularized streamlined Linux,
>>
Dunno, I'm on Ubuntu right now.
>>
>>101578456
No it's actually because of the spyware
>>
Thanks for telling us you know nothing about Canonical
>>

they fucked my girlfriend while i was in iraq
>>
>>101578456
I don't hate them, but they could start moderating that garbage store of theirs and removing the 10000 hello world snaps. Snaps as a technology are fine, pretty good in some cases even.

fuck motd shilling
fuck old and tampered debian pkgs
>>
>>101578456
You know this board is full of retarded zoomers when they think Canonical = Ubuntu and nothing else
>>
>>101579026
you forgot one
>fuck ubuntu pro
>>
Calm down guys. Remember, Ubuntu is just Linux for human beings. Relax!
>>
The only thing I don't like is how aggressively they push Snap.
If I weren't on RHEL already, I'd be on Ubuntu LTS for sure.

>>101579086
Mmmm herring
>>
>>101578456
Grab a 24.04 ISO and install on metal, right now. Then try to enable Hardware acceleration on Firefox and use File Roller to drag some files into a zip. Streamlined, LMAO.
>>
>>101579514
Setting about:config to enable vaapi has always just worked for me on my Intel and AMD systems. Nvidia refusing to support standards isn't Ubuntu's fault. The File Roller thing is unacceptable, but the port to GTK4 needs to happen to fix it under Wayland.

They have?

Please write a 12-20 page essay about why cannonical is hated by chuds, and what that means for cannonical.
>>
>>101578456
no I dislike them because of apt and .deb. That's pretty much it

I just hate snap and the way they have been aggressively pushing it.
That said flatpak sucks too. I can see it works in Silverblue but if you are just a normal desktop user looking to install a couple odd apps that aren't compatible with your system libs (calibre and pyQT for example), the size bloat is just too atrocious because the huge flatpak libs aren't reused.
>>
>>101580108
>flatpak libs aren't reused
wut?
>>
>>101580162
I mean the runtimes. If you only have like one or two flatpak apps, obviously those are the only ones that can make use of the runtimes, but the runtimes need to be installed anyway and they are huge.
I tried to install calibre via flatpak recently and it asked me to install about an extra 2GB of runtimes (the calibre flatpak itself is like 300MB iirc). I then downloaded an appimage only 190MB and it just worked.
>>
>>101578456
I tried to update Ubuntu to 24.04 version and it fucking broke. Now I'm on Debian and it's so comfy. I don't need fucking Canonical
>>
>>101580368
24.04 is literally not ready to be upgraded into yet. Besides, what the fuck are you doing upgrading an LTS release so early in its lifecycle? You have only yourself to blame.

"Hate" is an emotion. Applying emotions to tech is illogical. Rather accept the logic that Canonical will once again implement telemetry once people forget they were caught doing it before.
>>
>>101578456
>popularized streamlined Linux,
The only reason Linux is good is because normies can't use it.
>>
>>101578456
It's literally gnome de.
>>
>>101578456
I don't hate them and no they haven't

i hate canonical because they never send back a dick pic in return to my dick pic.

half of a python venv. 6.25% of the average usb stick.

so you did the opposite of an upgrade and went to older packages?

>>

i hate them because they have a massively time wasting application and interview process, and dont see a problem with wasting peoples time who are looking for jobs.
>>
>>101578456
I applied for a job at Canonical and they wanted me to write a 25 page essay and take an IQ test
>>
>>101580656
They have images of their Long Throbbing Schlong in the Downloads page, they can't just reply to every single message because the demand is too high
>>
They hate Canonical because they dared to:
• save us from Wayland insanity with Mir
• save us from Flatpack with Snap
• save us from RedHat/IBM corporate overlords

Canonical did nothing wrong. World would be a better place if they succeeded. If you disagree you hate freedom of choice.
>>
>>101580678
That's just for one app, and one not tied to heavy stuff like gnome or kde. I can easily see the runtimes stacking up to ~10GB if you happen to install 3~4 small apps with non-overlapping dependencies. I thought one of the point of using a self-contained package like flatpak or snap or appimage is that you don't have to install a gazillion of dependencies just to use one odd app, but flatpak doesn't give me that, appimage does.
>>
>>101578456
I don't hate Canonical, but I'll still install Debian instead of *buntu cuz I'm not ok with telemetry and being force-fed snaps.
