The last first-owned, brand new computer I used was a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in 2015. It barely held a charge for over 1 hour after 2 years of daily use, and didn't even start up after 3 years. After this experience, I decided that spending >€1000 for a brand new consumer device is a dumb decision, even if you can afford it comfortably. Businesses often use sturdier hardware, and replace their tech after about 3 years, when it still has plenty of life left in them. I've exclusively used hand-me-downs from family members and/or bought second hand after this, and have rarely been let down. What are your experiences with buying second-hand tech?
>>101579458i only buy "open box" phones that are 2-3 years old. my most recent purchase is a pixel 7 for like $220. much more reasonable than being a good goy and spending $1200 on something new.
>>101579458>What are your experiences with buying second-hand tech?perfectly good tech for a much lower pricethe only new tech i buy is SSDs even my HDDs are used or refurbI genuinely find it hard to justify buying anything technology related new unless the deal is too good to pass up or I need it instantly or its some shit like cables or chargers
>>101579478All phones are e-waste just get a 4g module for your laptop.>>101579458I usually buy refurbished corporate computers. With the AI stuff I wanted something a little faster so I got a new machine from GDP. It's ok. The battery life is surprisingly short but having a fast 8 core CPU on the go makes it worth it.
>>101579634>All phones are e-waste just get a 4g module for your laptop.are you literally on welfare?
>>101579634can you actually make calls on your laptop if you pop in a 4g module? I always thought it only supplied wireless internet.
>>101579458I buy a ton of open box gear from Micro Center for resale. Like cars, most things lose 10-20% of their value as soon as they walk out of the store.
>>101579849Yes, with qualcatel ones you have to enable the USB sound card and then you dial it with AT commands just like on the Pinephone.>>101579665No I make $110k/year
>using hardware another man used to cum>using a network adapter that was used to make another man ejaculate cuckoldry
>>101579458Most of the tech I've bought during my life has been second-hand. I've never bought a new laptop or camera. Most of my video game stuff was used. I wouldn't have been able to afford most things were it not for ebay. I've had no memorably bad experiences. You just have to be patient and sensible when shopping. If it's too good to be true...
>>101580624psp go truly the best handheld
>>101580814>proprietary, unobtainium memory card format
My local thrift shop has a pile of old, worn-out various keyboards and I always want to buy one, even though I have zero use for them.
>>101579968using this logic wouldnt all porn that isnt female only and never viewed by anyone be cuckoldry?
>>101579458The only real piece of technology that I've bought from a 2nd hand store was a 2012 macbook pro that had a swollen battery and a failing hard drive. I was able to get it working again and it is okay for the most part. Wouldn't really recommend buying secondhand unless you plan on repairing it or reinstalling an OS on the machine.
>>101579458Honestly I don't even buy secondhand, I get it for free from facebook and the like. Go into a free group and ask if someone is giving away old tech, sometimes throw in a line like I'm trying to teach my kids about tech, I have got "broken" laptops and gaming computers for free. Sometimes, like in the gaming computer, its a simple fix like a loose wire so the cooling fan doesn't run. broken laptops are usually just broken screens so an external monitor and you have a usable computer and most people don't know a thing about security. they don't wipe hard drives and the most complex password I've run into so far is 1234. If I was a piece of shit the amount of cc numbers and teen pics I could have saved is ridiculous
>>101583063yep and even if the computer doesn't work you can usually get a couple of them and cobble the parts together for a working system.>they don't wipe hard drives and the most complex password I've run into so far is 1234and people wonder how the fuck did the scammers get all my info kek
I used to buy everything brand new but don't any more. Its 100 pm of you want the latest phone on contract and shitty specced laptops are costing £800 or more brand new these days. I buy second hand now because you get more bang for your buck money wise, my second hand laptop has better specs that brand down ones I was eyeing up. My phones a few years old, in mint condition and use it like a laptop and it never struggles to do what I need. I buy second hand from a retailer that makes sure the phones are in mint condition and the laptops are in great condition too. I did try Facebook marketplace but its full of nutcases who price things way too high. I get a little bit of a guarantee where I shop and have never had any issues with the stuff I've bought..
buying prosumer trash like the surface is your main problem cert refurb phones 1-2 years old, with the usual year warranty are the way to gobusiness grade laptops on shitbay and local markets if available the only things I buy new these days are workstation parts (drives, CPU, GPU, RAM, mobo etc)
>>101579458>What are your experiences with buying second-hand tech?Great. It's been 13 years since I built a brand new PC.Just recently got a brand new mobo+cpu+ram pack, second hand. Works great.Last year, I got my missus a new computer for 600 eurobux from a zoomer who wanted to get a Piss5. A proper R7 3700X + RTX 3060ti system, barely used.I've gotten myself and my buddies used GPUs and storage media many times.
