>FOSS developers should be able to own their work and do with it whatever they want
>nooooo you can't just put features behind a Patreon. that's greed!
>>
this is exactly why we need socialism,
workers get paid and you get free software
>>

this thread's doing ironman numbers
>>
>>101586891
Socialism is when the government does stuff retard. The government is not "FOSS".

who said that? you just invented something obviously retarded to make your argument sound cute
>>

How is it FOSS then?

UBI would benefit society at large so much it's fucking insane.
>but goyim, I need to impoverish more people and steal more resources so I can make another billion this year for stakeholders!
Silence

>picrel

what, you want FOSS devs to do what she did as they turn into depressed NEETS working for free while on welfare and parent money?

idc what they do with the binaries. foss is about the code.
i don’t do it often but there are a few programs on my computer that i paid for despite the code being free.

the lack of political literacy these days is astonishing. people really be saying whatever they want without ever reading a book on the topic

>>101589507
And it isnt F(L)OSS

If the open part is available under one of the licenses that Stallman considers free, what makes it not free?
>>
>>101589727
The part that isn't open.

>Oracle's MySQL database software is dual-licensed under a proprietary license, and the GNU General Public License (GPL); proprietary versions offer additional features and enterprise support plans.
Stallman said this was A-OK.
>When I co-signed the letter objecting to Oracle's planned purchase of MySQL (along with the rest of Sun), some free software supporters were surprised that I approved of the practice of selling license exceptions which the MySQL developers have used. They expected me to condemn the practice outright. This article explains what I think of the practice, and why.
>>
>>101589938
idc what stallman says or about MySQL. Something isn't open source if it contains closed-source components. That's literally it's definition.
>>
>>101589983
It is at least free software, and that's all that matters.
https://opensource.org/blog/opencore
The OSI can suck a lemon.
>>
>>101589938
>We must distinguish the practice of selling exceptions from something crucially different: proprietary extensions or proprietary versions of a free program.

yeah that's what i mean

>“Open Core” has NOTHING to do with “Open Source”. At this point, nearly every proprietary software product has various degrees of open source-licensed source code in its core.
Literally the first point proves you wrong.

>create free foss project
>countless people help with it to keep it nice and working
>countless people count on it and promote it
>become greedy and hide features behind a patreon
>"noooooooooo you can't talk shit about my project! you can't stop submitting commits! pls no forks!"

i could do FOSS for free if Misaki comes to hang out at my house
>>
>>101588418
No it isn't. They have all available, but license is proprietary. They do this "to protect the brand" but actually it does nothing because FOSS licenses already does this. They just keep the project non-commercial source-available proprietary without any actual reason.

The only paywall I will ever accept is the compiled binary. Software is free to people who aren't monkies and know how to read compile instructions.
