>FOSS developers should be able to own their work and do with it whatever they want>nooooo you can't just put features behind a Patreon. that's greed!
this is exactly why we need socialism, workers get paid and you get free software

>>101586891Socialism is when the government does stuff retard. The government is not "FOSS".

>>101589916>Oracle's MySQL database software is dual-licensed under a proprietary license, and the GNU General Public License (GPL); proprietary versions offer additional features and enterprise support plans.Stallman said this was A-OK.>When I co-signed the letter objecting to Oracle's planned purchase of MySQL (along with the rest of Sun), some free software supporters were surprised that I approved of the practice of selling license exceptions which the MySQL developers have used. They expected me to condemn the practice outright. This article explains what I think of the practice, and why.
>>101589938idc what stallman says or about MySQL. Something isn't open source if it contains closed-source components. That's literally it's definition.

>>101586221>create free foss project>countless people help with it to keep it nice and working>countless people count on it and promote it>become greedy and hide features behind a patreon>"noooooooooo you can't talk shit about my project! you can't stop submitting commits! pls no forks!"
>>101588713i could do FOSS for free if Misaki comes to hang out at my house
>>101588418No it isn't. They have all available, but license is proprietary. They do this "to protect the brand" but actually it does nothing because FOSS licenses already does this. They just keep the project non-commercial source-available proprietary without any actual reason.
The only paywall I will ever accept is the compiled binary. Software is free to people who aren't monkies and know how to read compile instructions.
