That's because there are no good finetunes, as finetuners don't RP. They don't even have any useful RP-specific metrics to measure their checkpoints with. They are not even aware of the repetition problem. They are trying to weed out slop without statistical analysis which is laughable. /lmg/ are retards with very little usage experience, and finetuners are double retards with no experience. NAI wasn't like them, they were born in /aids/ and had a lot of experience themselves, so they made a great model for its time on very limited resources.

Model being strong in RP doesn't depend on it being "smart". It depends on deliberate RP tuning. You can see it with GPT and Anthropic models, they're more or less equal in size/smarts, but are completely different when it comes to actual RP. This is PURELY the result of policy choice, not the difference in capabilities.

And even then, Opus is still not well optimized for RP, because Anthropic doesn't actually RP with their models, it's their vague idea on how an RP model should look like. We have a much better idea because we're fed up with their models in actual RP. Slop, rhetoric questions, lost-in-the-middle, repetition, speaking for the user, spotty lore, all that shit we are fruitlessly trying to kill with monstrous JBs, nothing of it is a problem if you can finetune.

100B is plenty enough for a great RP model, proper finetunes are ALWAYS punching way above their weight, that's the entire purpose.

Anyway, it's not prefill, it's just the same as OpenAI's. You are allowed to end turns on assistant but the response forcibly starts on a new message. Pseudofill, I call it. I don't find it very effective on (newer) OpenAI models but Gemini seems easily influenced by it, might be worth playing with.
