It's fine to use synthetic datasets for small training runs. You can get an images with exactly the concepts you want to train (for example, on white backgrounds) that would help the model learn the concepts faster.

And you can make a pretty good regularization dataset to help the model retain what it knew before.

In general - yes. But if it's a small training run, and the dataset is curated and heavily edited to remove obvious artifacts then it would be fine. Especially considering that flux trains fine on 512x512 images and downscale itself would mask a lot of SD15 and SDXL VAEs artifacts.

The T5 in particularly is stupid to attempt to train because you need to literally use a super computer to do it. Feel free to read what is behind the T5 XXL model. Again, the T5 model already knows everything it needs to do translate text into encodings. I've yet to see it fail to achieve the task of teaching the diffusion models new concepts. And I've done a very diverse set of training. Everything from Booru tags to random bullshit, it can do it all without finetuning.

I think the GUI is still broken, or at least I can't get it to work, it gets mad about not having some config file. you can just input the settings you want then click "print training command" - then copy what it spits out in the command prompt window

from there, you activate the venv and paste what you copied, hit enter, and it runs in command prompt
activate venv:

>type:
>cd your-bmaltais-folder
>enter
>type:
>your-bmaltais-folder/venv/scripts/activate
>enter
>it should now say something like '(venv) your-bmailtais-folder'
