I don't much care for laptops but what do you guys think of the micro Thinkcentres that are being sold on ebay for $50-$100.

What I can tell you is not to get the Gen 11 Carbon. My heatsink fused with the CPU, and they replaced it for me, but after getting it back I tested again and I still find that the cores easily shoot up to 100C when doing fairly basic things. None of the online reviews prepared me for this.

They're great if they suit your use case. They're intentionally fanless or under-cooled and might benefit from a retrofitting if you're handy. There's not a lot of room in those things.

Hello! I just got a Lenovo ThinkPad X220 yesterday, its my 1st ThinkPad and I will be using it as my daily. I have several questions but first what Linux Distro should I Flash onto my ThinkPad?
I just want a reliable Distro that I can use to be Productive and nothing more, a Distro to END all Distros. I finally got my X230 put aright again. Initially swapped an X220 kbd, then some of the keys started glitching, had to replace it with an X230 kbd with some missing keys just to get by.

Bought a cheapo X220 replacement on AliExpress (definitely not genuine), but it's OK. Filed down the nubs, downgraded advanced bios to redo the EC mod, then reflashed advanced with 1vyrain again. Pain in the ass but at least it's done.

They are basically all faulty and unfixable without a replacement. Which means a new board on laptops IF OEMs cooperate. A more likely scenario is you're screwed when it dies.

I'm the gen 11 non, and no, this is not a refurb. A bit more lore: I checkd once and found that the heatsink was fused to the CPU. I mailed it in and they did fix it, specifically they replaced the heatsink + fan AND the motherboard. But it does still get hot. Unfortunatel, I didn't catch all of this during the initial 30 day window, so I'm not easily eligible for a return. I am planning to get in contact with them and see what I can do. If all else fails, I'll check the tradein value on Lenovo's site and see if I can get most of the $1600-ish back. Course I think they just give you store credit.

I really wanna like my T14s Gen 3 AMD laptop but it feels a downgrade from my T480s in many ways.

And most importantly it seems it gets hotter than my T480s?
The T480s has a double heatpipe and mine had an i5-8350U compared to the T14s which has a single thick heatpipe and a 6850U.
I thought that despite the smaller cooling system the AMD would overall run much cooler, but no if I run some heavy computatinal stuff the chasis gets so hot it gets slightly uncomfortable for my fingers.

I guess I should have gonne for the T14 gen 2 amd, but I wasn't so sure about the overall build quality (plastic vs magnesium + CFRP).
Not to mention the battery life is just horrible for some reason.

I have an E14 Gen2 laptop with two NVMe SSD slots. The second SSD isn't always recognized—about every other boot, it fails to appear. To fix it, I often have to reboot or enter the BIOS and reboot again. This happens with both Windows 10 and Linux, as I dual boot. I've tried reseating the SSD, but the problem persists. Once recognized, the SSD works perfectly. Any solutions?

I've took it apart, probing both sides of the ribbon causes airplane mode to turn off temporarily, but still no signal
so it's likely that the ribbon between mobo and the daughterboard airplane switch resides on is damaged

Put 16GB of ram on that because 4GB is just too little for nowadays, and change that screen to at least something that isn't cracked.

If you want stable go with Debian, if you think that the packages are too old then try Fedora, both come with gnome which I think is a good DE to actually get some work done and with very little tinkering allowed, maybe try KDE if you feel too limited and want a more Windows-like experience.
