You don't need a mega UI to get good results, especially if all you use is a single model. I'm also in the middle of a massive rewrite because I'm adding multi-model presets which I need for summary workflows, and chat injection, so a bunch of stuff doesn't work properly. Here's a quick example of the kinds of prompts ShittyTavern is really bad at. Not being able to easily set assistant cues per character / use case renders the whole thing pretty unusable, and it also sucks for anything that isn't turn based templates. It also more often than not fucks up continue prompts, which is baffling to me since you literally don't need to do anything extra for them to work. I guess most people don't know this, but most models can handle a lot of characters fine if you just add cues, which you can't really do with ShittyTavern. And this all also works perfectly well with turn based prompts (Gemma and Llamma are the ones I have,) but ShittyTavern somehow manages to shit the bed 9/10 times.This was literally a barebones frontend to test an openrouter library I made for game dev, but I ended up just using it over ShittyTavern because it's just that bad, and now I just extend it with whatever I want. You could run bare text completion on a model without a template and it would probably work better than ShittyTavern's shitty prompt rendering.
