How do you justify buying any GPU that isn't a used RTX 3090?
>>
>>101990510
Did this person take out their GPU to make a sexy photo of it but then didn't bother dusting it off a little bit?
>>
>>101990510
I don't want a card that draws 350 W.
>>
>used
ugh, pooor people.
the world would be a better place if we erased them all

I bought a new 4090 because my 3090 exploded.

I agree with you, the only thing I've bought besides used rtx 3090s is when I was able to pick up 2 rtx a6000s for 3k a piece which I got for their unusually high vram (don't bother trying now, you can't find them less than 4500).
>>
>>101990510
I don't need to justify anything. My GTX 1060 still works fine and I'm going to keep using it for a few years more.
>>
>>101990510
I do not. 4chinx is an echo-chamber.
Also you will never have sex with a real woman.
>>
My Nvidia rep told me that if a card was used for mining it was going to explode any second and I should only buy brand new, genuine Nvidia products from a trusted retail store or through nvidia.com
>>
>>101990510
I'm replacing my 3080 with a 5070
hopefully near 4090 performance with 200w
>>
>>101991812
should sell 3080 now before price drop for 50 series coming out
>>
Discrete GPUs are bloat. Emacs and i3 run just fine on integrated graphics.
>>

it's never coming out

>>101990510
RX 6900 XT BTFO it in every way including RT and it could be bought brand new for $500

But mom! THIS will lead us to AGI! Just don't look at the power bill! I already saved so much by not buying 4090s!

becauz their all fucked from mining/ai/cuda sd shit and are crap in gaming compared to 4080 79xtx

>>

7900XTX is both faster and cheaper, including AI.

my time is too much to bother ruminating on purchasing decisions that aren't even a big deal in the first place.

if you were gambling, or doing drugs, or buying a clapped out 40 year old Porsche thats going to cost you like $80K just to get working again because you're obsessed with it, then we have an issue and an intervention needs to occur.

but a 4090? who gives a fucking shit. that's worth every penny. people need to stop paying attention to stuff like FPS/W calculations. they don't represent the real world value. your time is worth like $200/hr objectively, even if you aren't actually earning that. treat your time as if it is, and your personal decision-making skills will improve dramatically.

i've seen NEETs on here toil over a $50 purchase for like weeks straight. this behavior is not okay.

>>
>>101990510
i have enough points on my amazon card from my business expenses to pay for 2 5090s when they finally release. Probably a new processor and mobo too by that time.

Is that a good justification?

>>
>>101992735
3090 is almost exactly the same speed as a 4070 Ti, it's faster than a 4070 Super. It also has double the VRAM.
>>
>>101992690
There's an embargo on server/datacenter cards to China, so the chinks are buying the PCBs for the datacenter cards and the GPU chips from the consumer cards and soldering them on.
>>
>>101990510
But my 3060ti plays all the games and emulators i want at a +60 framerate in
ultrawide
It only starts shitting the bed with anno 1800 lategame, but that's a cpu bottleneck problem.
Just dont play the AAA slop.
>>
>u need to buy 3090 otherwise your build is worthless!
The 3090 shills in /lmg/ are the most stubborn anons I've seen in a long while. Before that it was NixOS fags.

>>101990510
AMD cards are a lot cheaper. I'm into AI but I do that mostly on cloud. Quick experiments on amazon studio lab and for long training I'll just rent GPUs. Doing AI locally is expensive and isn't actually feasible for large models and training. For small things like stable diffusion and small LLMs, AMD cards are well supported, and I don't think that small performance gain from switching to nvidia really makes a difference if you're not running 24/7. And if you run 24/7 you'd better off renting from cloud services. Spending that much to just get a used GPU with inferior spec is just stupid.

it can't play games, it can't run editing softwares. I process tons of blurays a day with makeMKV and I don't want it to takes hours when it could take minutes instead.

Can it encode videos at an acceptable rate?

I just don't see the need to upgrade past 2 p40s with the current state of LLMs and the market at large. Not shelling out more cash unless they really crank up the VRAM, but I imagine Nvidia isn't going to be the only video card producer with all this Ai stuff for it to be used with. Player 3 enters the game soon. Driving prices down or another sheltered bay to buy cheaper hardware from, it's inevitable.

I bought an Arc A770 LE 16GB at launch in protest against the Nvidia monopoly. No this isn't Intel shilling, especially after the 13/14th gen fiasco. I just want there to be a legitimate 3rd contender in the GPU space, despite knowing AMD and Intel are likely to never catch up in market share.
>>
>>101997470

That’s what they said about AMD CPUs during the phenom and bulldozer era.
>>
>>102001165
I got 2 of these last year before the hype picked up, I got them at 3k a piece. I've been wondering if I should sell them now at 4.5k a piece. I could just pick up an extra large mobo with 4 slots for 3090s. The main perk of the 2x a6000s was getting more vram for my measily 2 pcie slots
>>
>>102001717
people won't buy at 4.5k
>>
>>101990510
I got a used 3090 a few months ago as a second gpu. It would turn the screen into confetti about once a week because of "Internal microcontroller halt" which is a hardware issue that can't be fixed apparently. Returned it recently. Wondering if I should roll the dice again, or get a new 3090, or a 4090.
>>
>>102001785
what do you think I could sell them for?
>>
>>102001838
what are you using the card for? if its for gaming you really don't need a 3090. if it's for AI, just use your chip's integrated graphics for the graphical part of your computer, just use the card for AI, you shouldn't have an issue

Used 3090 are unironically a great value, but it depends a lot of where you live. If crypto mining is common then don't risk it. Also I'd recommend to only get one if you can test it beforehand. Even better, if you get it from a vendor that offers a warranty.
>>
>>102001388
It's entirely in the realm of the possible that AMD could catch up to Nvidia in games, which would be huge and great for the market, but CUDA still gives Nvidia a monopoly on everything non gaming related, and that won't change any time soon.
>>
>>102002031

Crypto miners WILL be happy.

Because I'll never buy an NVidia GPU again until Jensen is out.
The last good card that shit company ever made was the 2070S, ever since then they've actively worked against everybody, and treats anyone that doesn't directly affect their bottom line like shit.
