i already have the parts. basically i have a 5900x in my pc and a 5600g in my unraid server.
im upgrading soon and am throwing the 5900x build into a fractal ridge case.
my question is. how much of a performance hit will i take if i instead take the 5600g out of the server and put it into the fractal ridge build instead? basically swap the cpus between them. i will have an easier time cooling the 5600g in that case and the server would do better with the extra cores. the gpu that is being used in the ridge build is a 4070.
looking online it seems like its a negligible difference between the two as far as gaming goes.

So my AOC monitor broke after 5 years of use and now looking for a decent reliable 27" 1440p monitor that might last as long or more, whats the go-to nowadays?

All other models tend to be either more expensive, offer less performance, or both. The AsRock is slightly cheaper but doesn't come with an sRGB Mode so OoB Colors won't be quite as accurate.

2260, 2280 etc essentially refer to length of the drive the slot supports. E key is same sort of deal (its chibi).

I see.
I'm looking at another board and it lists 3 slots as 2280, is that just a quirk of whoever listed the board on pcpartpicker, and the longer length slots support lower length, or is this board specific in that it can support shorter m.2 along with longer ones?
>>
>>102096039
It may not have the standoff holes. I would tell you to look at pictures but conveniently many boards have the holes hidden by the included heatsink

>>
>>102094821
Holy shit, is that true? Does it apply to my 7600?
>>
>>102095975
The number is actually just the size of the m.2 device, for instance 2280 is 22mm wide by 80mm long, 2230 is 22mm by 30mm and so on. The key is how the slot is keyed, as in there are a few pins replaced by plastic so only compatible m.2 devices can go in that slot (kind of the same how different RAM types are keyed differently so you cannot put the wrong module in the wrong slot). I don't remember what all the different key types are for, pretty sure M-key is the typical you want for NVMe SSDs, I believe E-key is used for shit like BT and WiFi modules and such but I'm not sure.

I've heard Dell's secret panel swaps of the G2724D really ruined the contrast for newer models, which was a big appeal. I think it's better to wait for the same reviewer to check out both of those so we have a baseline comparison, since they each use different methodologies.

No. Intel CPUs (13th and 14th gen) have literally been degrading and failing at stock Intel settings. They've released an update which allegedly fixes it but it hasn't been that long since it came out and it's unclear at this point how effective it is, or if it actually stops degradation or merely slows it down to the point of the CPUs failing when they're out of warranty.

I wouldn't buy Intel for several years at this point, it takes time to see where the degradation problem actually stands and I wouldn't trust any new CPUs they release either until they prove once again that they can make reliable hardware. Like I said, that will take years.

Reposting from /sqt/:
I have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-core, it overheats like crazy when I try to play almost anything now. It didn't do this before, but lately it's just been completely BSODing or just outright shutting my computer down. I've swapped out the heatsink & replaced it with a liquid cooling system. It helped a little bit, but if I still try to run something as strenuous as Warthunder of all things my CPU overheats. Other than undervolting or buying a new CPU, what can I do to alleviate this? I'm going to attempt to reseat the liquid cooling system's connector & all, but I'm just losing it, bros.

It's pretty fucking funny actually.
Intel despite its retardation still has the better overall experience and will now be forced to outperform and be cheaper.
Since AMD was too stupid to take advantage and failed with 9000 series, it's up to Intel whether or not they want to win with Arrow Lake. Let's hope their Jewiness doesn't kick in and they can keep the MSRP at or below Raptor Lake.

Question:
Is it worth spending an extra $14 for a 0.20 GHz increase?
Thinking of buying a a CPU for my ThinkStation. It currently has a Xeon E5-1620 v4 (4 cores, 8 threads, 3.50 base GHz, 3.80 boost GHz).
My choices are:
Xeon E5-2690 v4 (14 cores, 28 thread, 2.60 base GHz, 3.50 boost GHz)
Xeon E5-2680 v4 (14 cores, 28 thread, 2.40 base GHz, 3.30 boost GHz)
A step down in speed but I value the cores a lot more since I'll be running multiple VMs. There's also the E5-1680 v4 but that shit is like $200 still.

If it's a real HDR monitor such as an OLED TV, absolutely. I would recommend it for most games as long as it's not a competitive one (League, Valorant, CS:GO, Overwatch, etc.) The bright flashes become distracting.

Use it for movies and make use of the quick access Dark Room Mode if you have an LG TV OLED.

Hi /g/
I'm in the process of deciding what my new PC will be
For me idle power is very important because my pc is on all the time, and is mostly used for Microsoft Office package and browsing the internet, with only some light gaming, and I'm willing to go down to 900p or 720p for videogames. I also simply dislike having a machine that eats up a lot of electricity, it seems wasteful to me.

Ive been googling, and it seems like these days the best gaming cpu's are AMDs, but that AM5 is terrible for idle power, while Intel CPUs can often go to less than 10 watts when idle.
But it also seems like there was a big scandal with Intel cpus self destroying because of a voltage problem, that was "fixed" with an update that basically ruinned their performance, and the company is in the gutters, maybe may go bankrupt.

Are the 12100 and 12400 by Intel the best cpus for idle power? Should I go for a ddr4 or ddr5 motherboard? Do you know a motherboard that is also a low wattage one (I guess without wifi and not rgb lights).
I'm afraid that if I buy a 12100 it will be too old and underpowered very quickly. And don't know if Intel has better cpus than that one without their recent problems.
>>
>>102102901
Look at the ryzen 8000 series, for example the 8600G.
they are laptop chips, they don't have the separate i/o die business going on, idle power is not an issue.
the low end alder lake chips like the 12100 and 12400 are good too

too many variables associated with coil whine.
i built several pcs in the last 2 years that were quiet as a mouse during stress testing (at my house) and then howled like a banshee when the client fired it up at their house.
i now send a short clip of the rig running cinebench/furmark with zero noise so they know its a problem on their end if it does end up getting coil whine.
some times it has been a psu or whatever but its more than what people here like to parrot, as if its x or y model that has the magic touch.

By defaultno, but under 'fan' tab in settings, you can set to firmware control mode with a compatible GPU
pros: Fan curve sticks even when closed
cons: you can only set 3 points in the fan curve in firmware mode.
>Do I also have to open up the application and select the profile every time I boot?
Fan curve doesn't need a profile selected, it's independent of profiles. Profiles are just for OC settings. OC settings can be auto enabled by ticking 'apply OC settings at boot' (boot means program in this case, not PC boot)

you could have 2 of the exact same model of psu (or gpu) and one could whine while the other is ok.
then all of them could whine if you plugged them in at a different house or none of them could whine.
if you want a surefire way to get rid of the coil whine (and likely fuck up your card in the process), hit any chokes/vrms that are buzzing with hotglue to stop them vibrating.
theres a reason old tvs n shit would have gobs of glue on seemingly random caps/chokes etc

You can go compare the 5800x to 5800x3d for a rough idea, or the 7700x to 7800x3d
Some games really love extra cache, while others see much smaller gains. One thing is for sure, 7600x3d will be more expensive and have slightly worse performance outside of games. Since you didn't grab a 7800x3d budget is obviously a concern for you, so I would just stick to the 7600. Unless you're playing a 1080p with a 4090 then you're not going to be CPU bottlenecked in games anyway, 7600 is still great for games..

>>102103808
300-450 fps

Not him but you don't know what prices are like here. That's a crazy offer for a 7600 even today.

the fans are on you think I should record another video with toothpicks in all the fans
>>

this but win7
its faster than win10+ in every way
>>
>>102103982
how noticeable is it without being 2 inches from the GPU.. you know like real world distance and with headphones on.. which is implied by you playing games
>>

2000 was slower than 98
XP was slower than 2000
7 was slower than XP
10 was slower than 7
11 is so much heckin faster there is no historical precedent to think otherwise hecking stop benchmark now

95 was slower than 98se

you aren't going to hear it at all
I play with regular speakers with my side panel off, gpu 2.5 feet from my head, I don't notice it. I play at 180-200 fps

Guys, hotglue and epoxy won't help with coil-whine, because coils resonate inside their housing.

My cpu is 5600x, is my only option for AM4 upgrade a 5800x3d for noticeable gains or should I just go with AM5 cpus?
>>
>>102094754
So i unironically have autism so background noise annoys tf out of me
Was gonna buy a new case and cooling for my rtx 3080 ryzen 3600 pc
Except noctua fans what all new stuff can i get so it makes super low or no noise? Expecially when not gaming as I will be wearing headphones while gaming so doesnt matter if its loud.
>>

95 was the original vista

Post some gaming benchmarks that prove this

no. you can oc+tighten your ram or compile tkg kernel for free (total cost: $0.00) if you already undervolted (also free)

5800x3d is a bit overpriced for what it offers and 5700x3d isn't going to be a big enough improvement to bother with, I would wait for a decent deal to move to AM5, if you really need to. Are you really finding yourself bottlenecked with a 5600x?
>>
>>102104035
Just build some sound-isolating wall around your pc.
>>
>>102104053
bruh im getting 3 noctua A12x25 fans
saw a yt video where they werent making any noise at all below 1000 rpm
>>
>>102104076
It is a complete bullshit, anon. They make noticeable sound already at 800rpm.
>>
>>102104096
ok well the phanteks u mentioned.... they are quite expensive (2x)
anyhow is water cooling quieter than not water cooling? Do I need to buy water cooler for gpu or cpu?

Yes, but do not even bother with water-cooling. It is not so expensive, but pretty time-consuming.
>>
>>102104056
>Are you really finding yourself bottlenecked with a 5600x?
Not really, except when playing games that are very cpu hungry (think KCD and DD2). Most aaa unoptimised pajeet code games it handles well.

Couldn't even hear anything with my shitty monitor speakers, had to use my headphones at blaring volume, so I could hear the interference from your recording device just as well as the sound. If I had your rig there's no way I could hear that kind of coil whine, so either people whining about it have it much worse or their hearing is incredibly sensitive.

listen to the previous one I posted that one is much worse (ctrl f vocaroo)

ryzen 5 7600 starts at 180 euro, usually around 200 so i suppose the 7600x3d would be at least 250/300 if not more
5800x3d costs double the 5800x
>>
fellow Inteljeets, what's our next cope for Arrow Lake being 20 times slower than the 5800X3D?
>>
>>102103939
guess better to use the money for my gpu upgrade then, i'm upgrading piece by piece and my rx6700xt is starting to feel the old at 1440p and fsr sucks
>>
>>102104206
GPU upgrade would definitely make more sense, good luck finding a decent value upgrade in this market though.

Hold on to the 6700 XT until you can get a 5070

Are there any decent air flow cases with power button and ports still in the front?

Matx board compatible whilst still being smallish. I like the look of the montech 100 but the buttons are on the front. Are there any other roptuons before I pull the trigger
