I actualy started as a bash programmer writing complex backup scripts, installation scripts and monitoring tools. But it got to a point were it was comically difficult to stay with pure bash (have you tried OAuth authentication with bash?
Then I learned python and now I write services that handle raw data because modern developers are scared of reading a RFC.
