Halo 2 was too ambitious. It was like two generations too early for the tech it was trying to push. Even if they did manage to ship stencil shadows, the resolution/performance would have been too low. pic-related is only simulated/approximated btw, it's not even the real deal that could have been with pixel perfect shadows and dynamic lights.

I'm trying to undervolt a 4070 super here. I'm fine setting core and memory clocks on MSI afterburner, but when using the curve editor to undervolt, it doesn't matter if I adjust any other settings (I can just use stock core and memory clock settings) that my memory clock frequency will get halved during benchmarks. Any ideas? It just gets capped to 1250mhz.
Why do some motherboards don't have a battery for BIOS memory? How is the BIOS kept in this case?
How is the stock cooler that comes with non-X Ryzen CPUs? I know they cool well enough for gaming loads but how noisy do they get?
Similar thread the other day had a 4070Super at 1080p instead of 1440p. I personally think it'll be fine for the rest of this console generation at 1440p. Just wondering why the change?

What's the expected thermal improvement for repasting a 6-7 year old GPU? Also why are thermal pad prices so fucking obscene (not in the US)?
I was thinking about upgrading my computer then I realized... I have no games I want to play. Maybe some Civ 5 or TW:W but that's about it. I'm not interested in the latest AAA slops. Why do you guys bother upgrading to the latest gen when there's no game worth playing?
>>102210757>No, just 13 & 14th Gen. Also if he buys a fresh 13/14th Gen CPU fresh now and install the latest BIOS it should keep it from ever degrading. And not just "all 13th & 14th gen". It doesn't effect i3's and i5's that aren't K skus. So if he's going lower end it won't matter. If he buys a new higher end chip then the new bios will sort it, and he can also learn to undervolt them and power limit pretty easily and will get 90% of the max performance but below 250w and with zero risk of the voltage issue.Intel are rumoured to be releasing a new series of LGA 1700 CPU's early next year that won't be impacted by the bugs, and then later in the year variants with just P cores.
>>102211299Because I'm not poor and I still get improvements in other non-gaming stuff I do. What's a decent cheapish 30-34" QHD/4K monitor these days? My main monitor just died and I'm back on my old 1080 which just looks like ass so I'm wanting to buy asap without doing deep dives into panel technologies. Last one was QHD 27" and I want to go a little larger, but I genuinely don't care about max Hz, I was meme'd into buying a high refresh one last time and ended up locking it to 60Hz most of the time. Cost isn't too much of a factor but if I'm not needing the bleeding edge in monitor tech I'd rather pay as little as possible for a 75Hz QHD with decent image quality than a 250Hz 8k monster. After a power surge my pc won't turn on. I'm checking what died.If I unplug everything from my current PSU except the motherboard, nothing happens. If I plug an old PSU to the motherboard, the leds light up, so it seems like the motherboard isn't the issue. Both PSUs work when I do the paper clip power test. Then I tried connecting the old PSU to my PC but it won't turn on, not even the motherboard. It lights up for half a second and then dies again. Maybe another component is fried, idk? I tried smelling stuff or checking if there's anything charred etc but I couldn't find any. Asking here because /sqt/ straight up ignored me, sorry if this isn't the place. Also fuck typing in a phone.
With a budget of 200 eurobucks, any normal to slim ATX sized case that's airflow focused and highly recommended? I don't want one of those thick ones where you put the PSU behind the motherboard and such. In fact I want the exact opposite of that.

would really appreciate some advice on this. so my GPU just suddenly crapped out on me and won't get recognised by windows and the fans don't spin up like they used to on boot either. I have cleared cmos, reseated GPU about 4 times now and even tried to test a different PSU that for some reason won't power up the system. I think the "test" PSU should work fine as I shorted the on pin and the fan spun up. but could it even be power issues? >>102215989I'm gonna assume your GPU is still disconnected, otherwise it's probably taking priority from your CPU's iGPU (assuming your CPU has an iGPU).Yes, you need at least a working CPU and RAM to get into the BIOS and that CPU power needs to be connected as well. Can't recall if some motherboards will still display something or if it'll just power on then off.Try 1 stick of ram at a time and in different slots until you've tried them all or you get a display. You could try to get the CPU out to check if the CPU or socket are burnt but I think you'd be able to smell if anything was burned. You could also use this opportunity to reseat the CPU, doubt this'll be the case but at least you can check it off the list.Doubt you have a spare CPU for that socket but try swapping if you do. At this point it could be your MB or your CPU.
just had a bit of a chat with the guys that work at my local pc hardware/building store and they told me they made a decision to never stock Radeon GPUs again because they give them too many headaches and get sent back all the time, that they don't last at all compared to Nvidia.I was a bit taken aback since I've been wanting to change over because of Linux compatibility and generally not making any use of RT tech, is it likely they just got burned with a bad batch or what?I rarely see people on here or D tier ecelebs who have no incentive to lie about it mention Radeon card failure...

In 2023 they bricked windows installs last year with a shitty driver and also got people banned in CS2 because of their drivers. If you're just one guy on your home system you might be okay with that. If you're a PC store, and you look at the current steam survey results.. Nvidia dominates it and has the top 30 discrete GPU's. AMD only have about a 10% market share of discrete GPU and their most used cards are the RX 580 which came out in 2017 and the RX 6600 which was 2021.They probably got burned by one particular card generation from AMD and got a bunch of returns and went 'this is too much fucking work for cards that we don't sell many, don't make much profit on and that 90% of our customers don't care about".

>>102216412Mindfactory records the RMA rates of every product they sell. I just took a quick look at some current gen cards and AMD are a little higher but it's like 3% vs. 2%. Hardly worth discontinuing an entire product line over. Now with that said I don't think they're wrong on the whole. Putting AMD cards in normie PCs is risky because they have no marketshare. The General Publick™ /will/ fuck it up somehow. Installing Nvidia drivers or software, trying to use DLSS or RTX, and so on.Not to say that AMD is blameless btw. IME their drivers are generally less stable and they have had hardware problems on some gens. If you're DIY-ing those can be acceptable tradeoffs for the better value - you and I know how to DDU but your average punter is just going to take it back to the shop. The thin margins and high labour costs for a smaller integrator change the equation.

Even a 1660ti would be a huge improvement although only half the improvement you'd get from a 3050 and still significantly weaker than the 6600/3060 & above.I would probably go for a 3060 or 2070 Super, as I prefer nvidia and those two cards are levels above the 3050/2060/1660ti/1070.

Is ~1750CAD/1300USD for an mATX build with R5 7600 + RTX 4070 Super about what I should expect? Other general specs being 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 750W PSU
>>102218386Get a Fractal Design Torrent. Max airflow directly to GPU
>>102218443this shit happened with 30 series and 40 series and the stupid wattages never turned out to be correct
>>102218627I was just now looking at the Torrent Compact, because I don't want a fucking behemoth but I'm still interested in that PSU on top setup with fans at the bottom
>>102217661I had the 7850
Anyone here has a 'Asus TUF Gaming B650M-PLUS WIFI'? Looking forward to get it, but after some research, I found reports about issues with its Wi-Fi drivers and Windows blue screens...
>>102218689ASUS TUF boards are garbage.
>>102218689I have the exact same model, no problems here, however I only use the bluetooth. Had no problems with the Wi-Fi when I tried it though.
>>102218469
>>102218641It’s a good case if you’re going strictly for airflow and not use AIOs. As long as the GPU fits on the compact and using a double tower air cooler for the CPU it should be good
>>102218576>>102218481So top it up with a 16gb 4060ti?
>>102218792god I love living next to a nuclear power plant so I can play Fall Guys in 4K @ 240 FPS
>>102218792You can delete this now.
>>102218624Yeah. Not offensively overpriced for a prebuilt, it's okay
>>102218812go for a 4070 Ti or Super at least, 4060 Ti is a huge fail anyway due to 128 bit bus.
>>102218796I have a NH-D15S and just a bunch of 140 and 120mm arctic fans so it's all airGPU is chunky but dual fan only, so it's short (and weighs nothing compared to previous GPUs I had so there's no sag)My issue with it is the fact reviewers point out there's next to no room for cable management
>>1022188124070 SuperIf it increases the budget too much, cut down elsewhere
>>102218812Why are spending so much on a cpu and ddr5 when you aren't getting at least 4070S? Either stick to am4 with 5600x if you want to hobo with 4060 or up your game and get 4070TiS or higher
>>102218848>>102218848>>102218848
>>102218836Any ideas what i could cut down?
>>102218900https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gnscWt
>>102218834Yea that sounds like it’ll be a bitch to cable manage it especially if you’re also adding a hard drive. I think it’ll be fine if you have a small PSU like a Seasonic Focus and not the longboi Prime version
>>102217762>DIAMONDMuh dick.
